... and the homophobic "haha look at this stupid, super stereotypical gay character, let's ridicule him for it"…
Yes, sure, if it works for you that is fine though. However, it is less about the character acting funny and stupid but how this character is treated in the narrative... and here it was definitely to ridicule/in a negative way. Laugh about him and him being gay is being treated as a joke/punchline, instead to laugh along with him and humanize him, no matter how silly he acts. That is the difference here, imo.
After this episode I think his life will be fucked. He wonβt be able to go the States.
I think you are on to something here. I bet he will stay and try to get back together with SJ in order to "steal his almost wife" to humiliate Taekyung, which is infinitely funny if you think any closer about it π
Can't wait to see this bellends' reaction to TK getting married to Yeondoo instead. Oh it will need all the popcornπΏ
I love how logical the writer is making things. Even the misunderstandings and ambiguities are realistically set…
Yep. There is also his repeated vehemence that he doesn't know her toward joseon granny that will look very dubious in hindsight bc it will look as though he hid a lover/affair. And him drunkenly admitting toward her fam that they have met not just one time but several... In the clinic, ice rink, hotel... which her family obviously took as dates... and more lol. Plus her whole graffiti done on his car by accident with cheater etc can be interpreted that she was upset to find out about his upcoming marriage, aka two-timing her instead of her ex for which the message was actually meant. And we have the constant non reply and insisting she will raise it alone, when his mother asked for the father of her child, and also those awkward, guilty gazes between YD and TK when she was invited to their home by his mom. He was quick to be concerned about her too as she felt nauseated, handing her his handkerchief in the presence of his mom and SFL and all, looking as tho he was fussing over her/the baby.
Which are all harmless interactions in truth but all these little things will help to make their "one night stand with child" and the what looks like subsequent hiding of it afterwards "in favor of his arranged marriage" believable. With all this "evidence" i kinda understand that her mom thinks she is lying to her when she actually told the truth about him not being the father πIt all is well-set up story-wise amidst the usual insanity of this show, gotta say.
tbh, it was never about him staying there. Getting back to his time was always the ending goal from the get go. It just happened at a bad time and too abruptly after being shot, is all. But it was always about becoming the better versions of themselves for SY and BH both. He helped her to come out of her shell and be her assertive self again that she had lost through all the abuse and loneliness suffered in the palace. We see that she is much more ladylike but still as badass as Sobong was while in the soul driving seat...in her own way, and also starts swearing. Lol, he sure had a lot influence on her xD
SY meanwhile helped BH to gain a better understanding for people, have compassion and be less selfish which reflects in the news we see at the end. Aka his timeline had changed that he was helping the police to catch the baddies instead of the one being framed/the baddie, due to this shift in his character.
Hence i don't get why people say this ending is bad π€·ββοΈ
I see your replys to other comments, and I have to ask, did you see the preview of ch 9? I want to know what happens…
Watching kdramas daily pays off haha. But joke aside, it was much more reading and googling/translating words i did not know-skill than anything else, since i mostly used the preview version with displayed hangul subs π With listening... i do understand a lot of everyday phrases by now, but sometimes i hear a word and know it from the sound, but my brain is lost with applying the fitting translation to it haha.
I have found active learning of vocabs helps to understand more when watching kdrama w/o subs since you then hear those vocabs used and can apply it into context... and as we all know korean is like 99,5% context haha. While my listening skills are quite good i am still shit in writing/spelling hangul words/building sentences without a crutch and, well speaking.... something i need to work on in my second yr of learning. But then again, i learn korean just for myself, to be able to watch w/o subs down the line, so i take it slow. I always find it amusing how my brain goes... aw finally i understand them speaking again, after i come back watching a kdrama from a (rare) c-drama though xD Not that i understand everything, not by far but the language is very familiar to me now through regular exposure (where mandarin etc is not)
OYD's mom is obnoxious af tbf, with how she jumps to conclusion and attacks others, guilt trips her fam so hard as though it is an olympic discipline and is stuck somewhere in the dark ages when it comes to gender issues, particularly her view on women. I have such a strong dislike for her it is only matched by SFL. I think GTK's family is toxic in another way. There is no room for love/affection there whatsoever, just appearance. Joseon granny treats everyone like her personal servants and wants to control every aspects of their lives, no matter how old they actually are. And while OYD's fam has shown to be conditional with their love too, they seem warmer to each other. The difference struck me when GTK was feeling so comfortable in her family's home and felt accepted for probably the first time ever, but was visibly so uncomfortable in what is supposed to be his home. I really can't wait for him to get away from all that in finding his home with YD. instead (I only like his younger sister and his mom from that annoying family tbh. The dad, nah he has no backbone whatsoever. )
Also who tf is the guy on the plane making out with ML's younger sister? why does he look like FL's single dad…
You better have your soap opera/family drama trope bingo card ready because i think we can cross off "long lost twin" on there π (at least it is not an evil twin, lmao)
send in an edit to correct it when you know who it is (with sources, otherwise it gets mod-hammered)
hmm, i googled her and the Yoo Jae Yi wiki page redirects me to Lee Ye Hyun, so it is pretty likely an alternate name she has taken on for showbiz or so. Because all the other pages in the wiki tell me the actress playing the role of TK's younger sister is named Lee Ye Hyun. They are one and the same person, just two different names i guess.
Anyone else suspect that Tae-Kyung is actually Gong Chan-Shik's biological son?
Yeeeeep, can't have a soap-y show without birth secret after all π And the (spineless) dad bringing up TK regarding family matters toward his mother, depite knowing of joseon granny's disapproval bc "he is not of their blood" lets me think there is more to it.
I see your replys to other comments, and I have to ask, did you see the preview of ch 9? I want to know what happens…
I did, lol. Lemme help you out as far as i can with my meager understanding of korean after one yr of learning. Hence i did not understand everything but enough to see where we are going in eps.9
- TK claims the kid as his in front of YD's mother. No turning back now, main plot is happening. YD's mom is asking if they want to fool her (or something like that) -Meeting with TK's mom, she asked Yeondoo how she ahem, "met" her son and YD says it was an one-night stand between them (his glance at her at that lol.) Her reaction to it is like "One night stand? oh myyyy is it hot in here, i can't talk suddenly?" and cutely fans herself π I love her. -Taekyung is hugging a surprised Yeondoo and whispers "My mother is looking (at us). Smile please." to her π€ -evil witch visits YD and said something along the lines of "it is only a kid. Just give birth to it quietly (???) in a threatening tone. Hence i assume she means it does not change anything and that she should take "his" kid and vanish from taekyun's/their lives. -Joseon granny orders them to throw YD out as she appears in front of her, which they do and there she is attacked by evil witches' mom. Didn't get what it said in between, but evil witch is all "that is not the way to treat a pregnant woman, mom" as she unclaws her mom's hands out of YD's hairs. Hypocrite, much? -in the scene with TK on the phone he is asking: What? A meet and greet (literally)/we should visit? (context translation) in disbelief. Then half to YD he continues: "(and) Even grandmother gave her permission!" So YD gonna meet joseon nobility next week which explains her utter shock, lmao.
Thats it, hope it helps, lol. I like doing this since it is a good listening exercise for me. It did help also that i found a version with hangul subs, so yeah xD
Taekyung making marshmellows with Yeondoo's niece was the sweetest scene. She took such an immediate shining to him that she asked him to move in and be her uncle, aww. She is such a cute kid.
Worried about SFL's father who hit his head after a struggle with Joonha at the wedding venue. Do we get an amnesia subplot after all? π
I have to wait for subs but for those who watched it raw and kind of understood...can you spoil me as to what…
Okay so her mother did not believe that TK isn't the dad after she told her the truth, and believes YD is lying to her. Hence why she runs away guilt tripping everyone in saying "well if you cannot tell me the truth then you all don't need a mother anymore, do not search for me" in a letter. So in order to find her mother and clear everything up/or to continue the lie to pacify her momzilla, she needs TK. That is motive no. 1. Another is that she saw and experienced his desperation to escape that marriage a couple times, and also how comfortable he was in her home with her family in comparison with his bridezilla/his fam when she was invited in their house by his mother. (Them becoming besties is my new favorite thing)
She knows he is a genuine nice guy who deserves better than be trapped in a horrible, abusive marriage with an even more horrible woman. And bc he has helped her so many times before her conscious nagging her to not abandon him now is also a reason. These are all factors that caused her to appear at the wedding and loudly declared him "a jerk who got her pregnant/this baby is yours!!!" patting her belly and all π She indeed did the whole STOP THE WEDDING last minute entrance and i love her for it, lmao. So he is, quite literally, saved by the bell(y) π€£
yoomyung (TK's sis) and dongwook (YD's brother) have met for the first time already. It is happening. While totally predictable and cliche, i am here for this, lol. The scene was chaotic cute and a welcomed break from the other toxic ppl.
