I love this show but ep 8 was the first episode I disliked because I couldn't believe they had that whole conversation…
Like i said in the viki timed comments... I appreciate the attempt by the writers to make me care for KHJ. It is not working, of course and i end up >>> his scenes most of the time, but the attempt is acknowledgedπ€£ All of the families are just super obnoxious and i could not care less for any of them, but i guess chaebol family drama is a must have trope in kdrama π
I have a doubt... didn't anyone recognise his ID? Bcz on the left his photograph/details could be seen...so he…
i wonder about that too, actually. He does not seem to be well versed with the internet/sites like these and maybe overlooking such details. Which again, is fully in character, so nice attention to detail by the writers here tbh.
Help. I feel i need an intervention because Jiho gets more attractive to me by the minute now. Like... daaaaaamn.…
And all his (very often) unintentional humor (not him practicing what to say to FL in an empty court room while in full judge garbπ€£) and his face journeys really are the icing on the "I love this fictional character a ridiculous amount" cake, honestly.
Help. I feel i need an intervention because Jiho gets more attractive to me by the minute now. Like... daaaaaamn. While he struggles with words, his care and affection speak so much louder through all the little things he does for Sangeun. Acts of service is totally his love language and i lost count how often i replayed the golf scenes because it is so very π₯

Lol, I know there is some unwritten rule somewhere in dramaland that they need to kiss/date by episode 8, but maybe appreciate the slow burn instead? Imo, it is done right and suiting their characters. Anything faster would feel artificial tbh.
i expected nothing from this drama and still don't care for the main plot sister/family intrigue thing etc but gosh ML is so very adorable i watch 16 hours of the drama for him alone. FL being much more friendly now toward him helps too, of course. As an introvert i can relate to ML a lot, though for him it is already venturing into social phobia tbh. I am glad to see him receiving counseling for this instead of the drama being "love magically fixing everything" like waaaay too often.
The drama started slow and was a bit annoying with its melodrama, but by episode 7 i really enjoy seeing him come out of his shell little by little and this without changing his whole character. As soon the drama stopped looking back to the past that could have been told in one episode tops instead of five, and focused on the present it got a lot better. Imo the perfect drama to slot in while waiting for new episodes of another introverted ML dork (Jung Jiho, my love) in "Love In Contract" tbh. And like in LIC, i could not care less for SML even if i tried hahaha.
For real, I haven't been invested in the main pairing so much since Chaseul from From Now On Showtime in May/June.
As you know.... I loved the Crazy Love couple so much too, but Chaseul is the last in line of the 2022 dramas whose pairing made me squeal like a teen girl whenever they interacted.... until Jiho graced my screen, that is. And i am also enjoying how Sangeun turned out to be much more a dork than perfect prim office barbie PMY otherwise always plays, character-wise. I would watch 16 hours of these married dorks just going shopping, on dinner dates and basically just be together, no questions asked.
I liked GKP in "Chigago Typewriter" a lot already, but oh boy i am unreasonably attracted to him/his character here... and totally get FL being hot and bothered by him π (broad-shouldered, gentle, well-mannered, introverted judge who can cook and hates social gatherings while letting actions speak instead big words? Sign me up, haha) I think he is one of the actors (was the same with Kim Jung Hyun for me) that gets more attractive the more you watch him in a drama.
Anyway, i digress haha, but yeah i fear the makjang will stab us in the back late in the show, seeing how they build the main plot around the chaebol families and such, sigh. For now i am enjoying the slow burn ride (including writers blueballing us xD) which makes me all the more ready for the JihoSang couple era ngl.
SEun is the kind to pretend she is ok, even when she is not. and jiho is the kind to have hard time noticing something…
Personally i think KJH is an immature, selfish brat that is much more concerned with appearance than substance. He needs to be put back in the oven for another 5-10 years to get to the point where Jiho already is in his maturity tbh.
What killed me in eps 7 were the words in between, aka the assumptions made after words were said, and that with all the characters. So much subtext, and hurt/disappointment due to that. This is where past experiences mess with you, because they color your way of thinking. I relate a lot to Jiho... in general but particularly with the confidence issue. Being told you are not worth it/lovable by people you are meant to trust and to raise you up instead of putting you down takes a long time to unlearn. It is hard and not trying at all to not risk failure/disappointment a lot easier. Been there myself, and still struggle with it at times.
And while the plot is bit of a mess in this drama, they do a fantastic job with their characters, because their actions and behavior are grounded in their experiences made, good and bad. It all makes sense and is organic in its writing, especially Jiho. There is a reason why he is how he is. Same for Sangeun. The writers indeed managed to show us both of the leads' sides, so you can empathize with and understand both of them, instead to take sides in their conflict/struggle to find to each other. That is good character/dialogue writing tbh. The subtleties in their acting helps to bring it across too, of course.
And I love how this show is messing with our expectation of romcoms and love triangles in particular. It had been all set up promo/synopsis wise to be all about Sangeun to be torn between two men and epic triangle etc etc when it could not be further from the truth. The only epic love story SML has with Sangeun is in the 500k self-insert fanfic he writes at night. Because SE does not caaaaaaaaaare for him, barely as a friend and even less as a romantic interest. She is head empty only Jiho, all the time. Episode 7 was pretty telling regarding this if you paid just an ounce of attention. "Im comfortable with you." "Hurry up and find your true love, then, since our contract ends soon." The tie was meant for Jiho but got loaded off on KHJ bc Jiho already had it. KJH calls to meet up with her, but SE does not even hesitate to go to Jiho's home instead, fully ignoring SML, lmao. I am so ready for the Jiho/Sangeun couple era, but i also don't mind the writers blueballing me further for a bit, strangely so. Because this is slow burn done right and SML is just the annoying spectator on the sideline to it happening, nothing more π
In Korea a wedding ceremony is just a ceremony but not legally binding. To have the marriage acknowledged legally…
Yeah i was talking about the past five years where she is legally married to Jiho. Before him, she did provide that service more often, but broke it up soon after, i suppose?
Hehe yeah. Though it took me a while to recognize what you mean because romanized hangeul always looks weird to…
Yes Hangul is unlike other writing systems like in japan/China easy to learn as it was designed to be accessible. It will still take a while till I can comfortably and quickly read texts but I definitely notice progress thru continuous practice π
Could be that I misrembered it then dunno but it was one of the two nicknames at least haha π
If you want something more somber, but is also healing/characters moving on from trauma (ML) try "If You Wish Upon Me" with Ji Chang Wook which has just finished airing. It is on Viki/Viu.
