For personal reasons (my daughter, recuperating from major surgery, plans to watch final shows with me), I have…
If you have not taken the plunge yet... Mr. Queen will certainly help fill the void, and then some. Vincenzo is great too, in regards of acting, humor, genre mix, quirky characters and badassness.
From upcoming dramas... i would not write off alchemy of souls as Mr. Queen's synopsis sounds wild too if you read it without further context/knowledge, but the drama and its story just works so damn well when you actually watch it. So yeah judging a drama by the synopsis alone is never a good idea. Jinxed at first is my big hope for getting out of my current kdrama limbo caused by FNOS ending tho π (I may end up simply rewatching FNOS just wait, lmao)
Why is the rating only 8.4 when almost everyone is giving it a 10? I thought it would be a 9 at least. I haven't…
Tbh, I'll never understand mdls rating system. Seems entirely convoluted and arbitrary if you ask me. Popularity of a drama plays a large role in it tho and this drama has been chronically overlooked/undervalued and underpromoted while it aired (hell it was Park Hae Jins agency who did most of the promotion for it NOT the network *tableflip*) thus the rating is bogged down by that.
Although I'm a fan of PHJ, I'm going to comment for JKJ since I read that some dropped it because of the FL.I…
Rewatching i saw there is so much hate for JKJ's acting/Seulhae in the timed comments on viki during the first few episodes and it pisses me off tbh. She does such a great job in combining adorableness with badass and to bring forth Seulhae's complete spectrum from acting girly in front of her crush to loudmouthed, chaotic, punch in the face impulsive justice seeker with courage and heart. During the first few eps she is actually a lot like Chun Hwa there, something you only notice upon rewatching i think. I love how she is never afraid to call people out, especially Chawoong on his bs, reading him like an open book from the get go. The character is very alive, loud and opinionated and i feel a lot of people still have the shitty double standard that while ML can behave like that women/FL's can not and have to be meek, nice and perfect instead. ugh. Let her/us live instead to box us into narrow, outdated notions ffs. (Gosh, how dare she make mistakes or be wrong at times like a human being is, that wench???? Burn her at the stakeeeee π )
It is the first time i have seen JKJ's acting in a drama and she sold me completely on her range/abilities (especially later on) I love how she combines Seulhae's more brash, chaotic/stubborn side with a very human vulnerability, and kindness for the people around her. She is so adorable in the light, fluffy romance scenes too, while also slaying the heavy/deeply emotional ones (that eps 16 scene for example, you know the one.) Could not imagine anyone better for this role and the many facets it entails tbh. (Which btw is imo one of the most well-written, fleshed out female kdrama characters/FL's out here.) Will check out her other projects for sure :D
Some ppl need to learn to drop dramas more often (me included, admittedly but i am getting there lol) What is the point to watch it at 2x speed just to get it done and over with? Why force yourself to watch it if you don't enjoy it, like there are enough alternatives to pick from for you out there????
I am just shocked at the originality. So new and so fun. I agree she is either very creative or was drunk
Why not both.gif? xD
But yeah if you have seen the writer's prior work you just know she has a quirky, brilliantly weird mind. Even tho Mystic Pop Up Bar is based on a webtoon instead of an original work as FNOS is, when comparing the two, you simply see her signature writing in the way she tackles situations, characters and themes. It is all just wonderfully different even if the overall story and tropes (love conquers all, fated love, ghosts/shamans etc) used is nothing that new, it is the way she brought it together with her team that makes it unique, imo.
Broski, if only i knew. I haven't managed to watch any other kdrama since it ended π (I just keep rewatching scenes from various episodes instead, send help lol)
The most toxic drama, toxic 1st male lead & female lead I've ever watched, Period. I'm boiled with anger everytime…
Oh gosh I was looking for some reincarnated lovers dramas to fill the "from now on showtime" sized hole in my heart, but this drama here doesn't seem to be it. Guess I stay in my cozy Chaseul corner a bit longer instead π π π
Oh it is back to 8.5 at least. I really hate the dip in ratings briefly after finishing airing that always happens for dramas that don't have Netflix support and thus great popularity. Hope to see further increase in time but let's not jinx it π
And I would love this to be 20 lol i love everything what you hate and love but agree on the villain I would want…
Nah we are in agreement here. I was just saying he was flat for a reason/storytelling device. Of course a multidimensional villain is always more interesting but for the purpose and intent of this story a pathetic one worked better imo. βΊοΈ
And I would love this to be 20 lol i love everything what you hate and love but agree on the villain I would want…
Imo, it was never about the villain or to make him interesting in any form. He was meant to be pathetic and one-note as he only serves as a backdrop/device to tell Chaseul's full story to the viewers and be the antagonistic hindrance to their happy end in the present. It is why his plot took such a backburner followed eps 12 until eps 16, since it focused on the core of the drama: It's characters, their stories and relationships/bonds.
However, him creeping about till the end of the drama served to let Chawoong come into full circle in his development as character and into his role as shaman/accept his fate. Creeper pushed the characters forward when needed and only crept in the bg when they were living their best life heh. Sure a more complex villain is more compelling but i did not care for him either way. Neither did any of the characters, lmao. (on that note i cheered Seul Hae on so much as she called him an obsessive, delusional remnant of the past bc god was it on point, haha)
Also i never get this 12 eps argument, because NOTHING was resolved at this point for the characters so ????? It would have been fully unsatisfactory for the story/viewer, imo.
CCW was stabbed by a sword which would not pierce his physical body. It would only stab and send the spirits in…
Imo it is due to the prayer Chun Hwa made that his soul landed there. You see her tear falling onto the sacred mirror and it "vibrating." Also both were very surprised about meeting each other. I also loved that this is the reason she said "Do not grieve too much. We will meet again in another life." A small clever twist and explanation for her words/voice over, since i always wondered how she is supposed to know that. It is due to her meeting CCW the night before the events that led to their death.
Oh he definitely IS the general's reincarnation. The kid was purposedly chosen to resemble the adult actor, heh. And then we have CCW realizing it in shock too which he refused to share with his wife lol. And the whole scene of the golden emperor was about how Choi has to make another round in the mortal realm to reach nirvana. This time as their son. Oh the irony π€£
Short answer; Yes. (eps. 13) Long answer. Yes. Chaseul is a sweet slow burn romance which develops organically…
Yeah i have no motivation to watch any other kdrama rn haha. I think i will look into FMV making as on the whole of youtube there are just 5 chaseul vids and this is so depressing tbh. I have already some ideas but i have not done vid editing for a decade so it is the skills i lack lol. Have to find HD episodes (ideally raw) of FNOS first anyway, but yeah outside of rewatching this gives me a chance to spend more time with these characters <3
