I disagree that she just went along with everything he wanted, we have clearly seen that she voiced her disagreement…
oh i saw the drama a long while ago, wasn't that invested in the story as i am here, but still its the worst trope and i hate it every time it happens. Same with noble idiocy.

Y'all know, it hit me last night that this show and Hyo shim's behavior is actually pretty realistic. People don't…
Yes, i get now that HS needed time to heal on her own and away from her family who learned "to live their lives" in her absence, but the way it occurred was amateurish and insulting to the viewers & ML. Such an arc belongs in the middle part of a drama, NOT THE END as it threw everything very very off-balance in the narrative.

Title Live Your Own Life Spoiler
Anybody watching this live? Heads up, pleaaaase
HS dipped at the beginning w the content of the letter being revealed and there was an immediate timeskip of one year which was the best decision in this weird ass direction to do as it does not give much room to linger on everyone moping. Live went on, HJ has a daughter afaik & works as lawyer. Rubi and Heeju are as rude as ever. HS is living her best life on jeju island w/o a care in the world. Taeho fell back into old habits he had in the beginning aka numbing/coping w his pain with exercise. He's listless, going thru motions only until he's alerted to a familiar face appearing on TV and hurries to where HS is. The reunion is very anticlimactic but swift and tearful (she went like I MISSED YOU SM & I laughed out loud ngl) and HS returns home after a year too to have a tearful reunion with gremlin as well. Mirim lands an acting gig for some reason and is as bad as ever, but hey she is having fun, lol. THee and HD reunite too.

Each char gets their scene, like it's a to do list to check off. Uncle dad is released from prison and goes back to his shoe shop has a few scenes with TM who otherwise stopped existing pretty much. Overall it's nice but rushed bc writer wasted so much time on pointless angsty bs so she has to hurry things along now. Hence why we skip to HS& TH's wedding w/o any discussion or confrontation between them lol. Straight from reunion to marriage 🤡 The wedding is very pretty and nice tho, w Hyosung being the one who walks HS down the aisle as he should. Ga on sings at the wedding officiated by gym bro hwang and after they kissed.

After that another timeskip of two years, and the now very married couple returns from abroad (england) w HS having her sports marketing degree and well, another very apparent surprise once they come in. Unlike Yeondoo she is shown preggers af, since they expect twins lol. HJ is happy about the new, in the making cousins for his kid while gremlin drags off her son in law to scold him. All in good fun tho. Ending scene is HS & TH going up to rooftop (with difficulties due to a giant belly lol) and reminiscence about past & present and hardships lived through that finally got them there where they are today., happy and being expecting parents. Their endearing, comfortable chemistry/dynamic is back throughout this scene and we get a final kiss of them, looking out into the starry vista and toward their future, together.

FIN.

Overall it does give a nice if rushed sendoff to everything & everyone with some caveats bc too much time has been wasted on pointless angsty bs before, alas. I can take comfort in knowing everyone is better off now than they were in the beginning tho. Nevertheless the eps 48-50 leave a bitter taste in my mouth. It should have never been an arc at the end but one that happened in the middle part of LOYL. At the end, it was jarring, displaced and negated everything else that already took place and took place well, before it. Yes, HS needed time to heal on her own and away from her family who learned in her absence, but the way it occurred was amateurish and insulting to the viewers & ML. For the enjoyment i had with the show before this disastrous three episodes happened i can up my rating from 4 to a 7,5 again, but that is me being generous tbh.

I never really knew when to use the phrase "jumping the shark"but I feel like this is it😑
the term fits perfectly and thanks to that i am giggling my way through the tv tropes page because so much of it so so apt in regards of what happened to LOYL at the last minute. Aka telltale signs of a show having jumped the shark:

- An existing character evolves in a way that flattens rather than enriches them, or which contradicts prior depictions of said character. This can streamline a character in an appealing way, but more often it offends and alienates the fans.

- A character forgets a valuable lesson they had learned in the past, usually resulting in them having to learn the same lesson over and over again until the audience loses patience with them.

-Conversely, a show which is based on a coherent story arc fails to make changes that would resolve -- or even progress -- the story. This can happen from over-reliance on Filler, the Reset Button, or Failure Is the Only Option.

-The show experiences Mood Whiplash and becomes unbelievable and unrelatable.

-An important Plot Point or story arc is resolved — but with twists or retcons which are inconsistent with the overall narrative, the resolution is poorly set up, or the ending is just plain stupid.

-Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Too much Angst (or worse, Wangst), makes the audience lose sympathy for the characters and tune out.

(Just to name the (kinda) fitting examples😂)

Also 19,7% rating. Hope it was worth selling out for this lmao

this would have been a solid 9/9.5 if not for the last few episodes. I dont know how the screen writer even came…
saaaame here for me. If it had ended with eps 47, it would have been a 9.0 for me. Now after the bs galore, it is barely scratching the 4.0 mark and that is me being generous with the absolute fuck up this drama has turned into. Might lower it further, depending on tomorrow so it can keep THRC company 😂

oooh gotcha. Yeah like, having them move on would actually be preferable bc it is waaaaay more likely to happen, especially when the couple had no contact for several years lol

Glad you liked and it was useful heh. Ooooh those are good ones although i found Run On a bit draggy after a while. I have watched all but Emergency couple thus far but i have it on my watch-list :) Eye Love You is also a cute currently airing Jdrama if you want something fluffy and light (it stars a korean ML btw, the one from Castaway Diva, which i have forgotten to include on my fave list btw whoops)

Haha thanks. I tend to like the less popular dramas for the most part, which i am not saying to be hipster or speshul but it is just something that i noticed happening within the years. A lot of popular or highly rated shows use to fall flat with me (like moving, that watermelon one, My Demon etc) i tried healer and failed to get into it, twice thus far, hence i have it on hold. I will give it another fair chance once i have a bit of breathing room and caught up on other currently/recently airing/aired dramas first heh.

I do like sageuk's but i tend to struggle with those too serious ones. I do have Six Flying Dragons on my list but 50 eps (?) is such a commitment for a sageuk, ngl 😂 Thanks for the recs nonetheless.

yes it is Hajun/Taeho. You can see the full gif on my profile, best viewed on desktop heh. Or here: https://twitter.com/sundogsnrainbow/status/1769069017900126431

Why not? Let Hajun be a pretty princess if he wants to 😂 Actually he did these pictures after his last take for the drama. As you can see he has a custom cake and is posing for pictures in this pretty princess outfit, bc he is adorable and secure in his masculinity that he is playing along with what his team had (jokingly) prepared for him as a wrap up gift😁

timeskip itself isn't a problem as it can be used to show good, wholesome epilogue things (like in Once Again) but it becomes one if utilized to uselessly separate a couple in the most cruel fashion possible (aka one char abandoning the other to go about their life w/o giving any closure or breaking up face to face at least) and yet they are magically still so in luv a year or more so later that they immediately pick up where they left off, no trust issues or hard feelings at all, lol.

Which is, among noble idiocy the worst trope, in my book.

Heh, TM has scenes with uncle tomorrow or "a scene" i guess he got the free from jail card already but yeah fair enough, i will do the same tomorrow with this show. Gonna keep my princess hajun avatar gif bc he is adorable like that, but otherwise i will palate cleanse myself from it like i did with TRHC.

what was that about even? I stopped paying attention to this dreadful eps while watching live and have yet to endure it with subs lol

Sadly his wedding got lost to the timeskip no one ever wanted (at this point) it seems. RIP 🪦

I haven't tried either, I got stuck at the first eps of flex cop in two attempts and have QOT on my list, but have not started it yet. I think i need to have this bullcrap here done and over with in order to focus on other new shows i haven't begin to watch yet with a clear mind (and as palate cleanser lol) Midnight studio is also on my very soon to start list :)

I’ve kept this on the back burner for a long time, but it may explain these last episodes. When the drama first…
I disagree that she just went along with everything he wanted, we have clearly seen that she voiced her disagreement whenever there was one to be had with TH. She was all but a pushover in their dynamic/relationship, it was all on equal footing. However, looking back now, it seems she took him for granted, that he will always be around no matter what she does or treats him. She also WANTED to marry him but the problem with it was she never made him her priority, not really, and always lost herself into her family whenever there was a minor problem occurring, without regards to TH who was supposed to be her family too going forward, nor his feelings, on which she trampled without regard too the last past episodes. Hence the 'taking his support and love for granted' part. Ironic how she is the one now abandoning him, then.Basically ditching him like an old toy that outlived its purpose. Very cruel and heartless, too, especially after saying yes to his heartfelt & thoughtful proposal. Tearfully & gladly just a small while ago, i might add. It is not realistic AT ALL for a person to have a such a massive change of heart in the matter of mere days, going from communicative to lying/deceiving and thoughtless/cruel, unless the writer is pressing the factory reset button on everything the character stood for/learned before, to insert their new shitty version for nonsensical last minute drama. Which obviously has happened here.

I really would have preferred that version of the show in hindsight of the garbage we got instead at the end. Like i said before you simply cannot do such a story arc at the end of a show, if at all, it NEEDS to be in the middle part of it (without the one year timeskip like TRHC has done in the middle ofc, but a few weeks of disappearance would have achieved the same learning effect), so consequences and learning effect for characters can follow, and most importantly GROWTH. Because with how it is poised now, at the very end of the story, it undoes every bit of progress (characters and relationships) done in 30-40 eps prior. Hell even her family is back on their asshole arc here. Hence why I feel like I'm screaming into an empty hall of beginner writing class, slowly losing my mind at this apparent and massive structural writing blunder. Which I bet you would hard pressed to find happening even in fanfic, tbh.

Hey folks - Even though this drama air burst flat with the writer's direction, I had a great time reading all…
You mean weekender recs? Or regular kdrama?

For weekender: Five Enough, Once Again, My Father Is Strange, Homemade Love Story, Never Twice, It's Beautiful Now, What Happened To My Family is a good and safe start.

For regular kdrama I have my all time fave list, here:

https://kisskh.at/list/47aqzZDL

hope this helps. The only currently airing kdrama im into atm is Wedding Impossible & Dr. Slump, have to start watching/catch up on many others from this year still tho. And i am gonna take a break from longform drama myself after tomorrow, bc i am exhausted by this genre. Hence i will skip the next weekender harder than ever and maybe be back to it with fresh eyes in fall. Dunno yet. Have a lot of older ones from above's list to catch up on too.
