There are quite a few of YouTubers who have posted alternate HEs for this drama, and some of them are plausible and well written. it is a shame that the captions, the narratives and only in Chinese,so those who don't read or speak mandarin cannot enjoy them. I wish the screen writer and producer would have adapted a HE from them, they are well written and most of all fulfilling for viewers.
just started watching it, the pacing is great, and I truly appreciate the performance of the cast appeared so far, the male lead is not just a handsome young actor (watched hidden love), he owns the character he plays, a truly great professional.
The drama has such a slow pacing, still watching because of the performance of the male lead ,Zhang Wan Yi, who is truly a great actor, so natural in his acting and his posture in period drama is top notch. I cannot say the same for the female lead, Wang Chu Ran, she has no facial expressions and when she speaks she has the same tone, no matter what the circumstances are, she just cannot go inside the character. I have seen her in several dramas already, she makes no improvement in her actings , but always manages to place herself next to some great male leads.
Being a forever Happy Ending fan, I am dropping this drama now until all episodes are aired, if it has a HE and not a BE as in the book, then I'll come back and binge watch. I can't stand another drama with the male lead (Wei Zhao played by Ren Jia Lun) dying, I am still haunted by the drama One and Only in which Ren Jia Lun died a tragic death.
I love the pacing of this drama, it is engaging indeed, I have not skipped any scenes, which is uncommon for me, a costume drama lover but often find episodes draggy.
Am on episode 5, this drama has a refreshing storyline and the acting of the cast is really engaging, the cinematography delivered is great, am convinced this drama will have a great, deserving run (and it's about time, too, haven't seen anything worthwhile in the past months)
This drama didn't get any pubblicity, it just got dropped into the air very much under the radar. I find it entertaining and the story flows well in each episode, unlike "melody of the golden age" which I had to drop when the discontinuity between scenes and happenings became too much to ignore.
Just started watching this drama , the directing and storytelling are better than "melody of golden age", it flows quick and steady, a good grip of the main theme, no scattering of roles and scenes all over the places failing miserably in tieing them up with the main theme as in "melody of golden age".I hope this drama keeps up this way, it is definitely a better choice than Melody of golden age, a poor assembly of scenes that survived the editing but got killed for lack of coherency instorytelling thru presumably poor editing.
This drama is getting more and more disappointing, new roles come and go, the main leads are always doubting, behaving silly with each other, happenings jump out and gone with no consequence or continuity, now they even introduced another girl to create more misunderstandings and silly time filling scenes. If editing is the cause of lack of flow in this drama, it would have been better if they took out time filling roles and alot the screening time to the development of the main plots. Much as I like to follow the work of the main male lead, I am moving on to some other dramas.
I think it's because the English sub is not that accurate, unlike on WeTV, Iqiyi, and Youku. If you are watching…
yes, poor editing, cutting out scenes does impact on the flow of the narrative and connections between scenes. the editor should have done a better job, there are plenty of dramas based on lengthy novels but none, as far as 8 can remember, gives me a sense of disconnections as this drama does. I hope it gets better, I like the cast.

It just does not flow well, disconnections between scenes, new roles come and go. I have a feeling that the screenwriter made a poor adaptation of the novel. Am still following it, hoping it will get better in the episodes to come.

I speak and write Chinese, for me, this drama is poorly written, it is disconnected between scenes in many occasions, no explanation is given to tie them up, scenes jump from one to another and is everywhere and nowhere . So far this drama, (at least up to the ep.10) is the least coherent I have seen for some time.
The screenwriter(s) really did a bad job for this drama, the story branches out everywhere and nowhere, subjects and scenes get dropped every 5 minutes with no development or continuity of what just happened or said, what is wrong with the production? what a waste of a good cast.
