Re Dolphin Bay - It's not surprising to hear a Japanese song or anything related to Japanese culture in a Taiwanese drama since Japan occupied the island from 1895 to 1945. They're still closely connected today and Taiwan definitely doesn't follow the same censorship rules as China. On a related note, Chinese variety shows "borrow" music from Japanese dramas and movies all the time. Can't tell you the number of times I've heard the opening to Yamashita Tomohisa's "Loveless" on their shows.

Not sure how you're defining Mary Sue..... if you're trying to say she's physically weak then yes she's not playing…
Agree that there are no new stories or characters anymore. Most, if not everything, is now recycled. It's basically just watching how the actor breathes new life into old characters.

7 episodes in. I see so many comments (here, weibo and douban) about appearances and ages, but the acting is so good that I'm able to look past all of that. Zhou Yi Wei may not be considered handsome but damn, his aura as a general is strong. He is a man, not a boy. Honestly, this isn't some idol romance where generals have to be extremely good looking. Sure, that'd be a plus but...ultimately I don't think she falls for his physical appearance nor is he known for being handsome.

With ZZY, her performance in ep 6 truly proves that even if you cast a younger actress, they may not have the same experience to portray the feelings Wang Xuan felt when she made the life changing decision. I don't disagree with casting a younger actress to play the role of a 15-year-old but it started to make sense to me at ep 6 why they may have let ZZY do it.

I don't know who picked the main cast but none of them are vases.

Thank you! I did read the original work to And the Winner is Love, definitely not a BL. Perhaps he is thinking of LYX's upcoming series with Chen Feiyu.

Would you happen to have a link to the video? I very much agree with the reviewer, lol. They play tragic roles so well.

I've definitely seen the "walking human pulse" memes. There are a lot of blood splitting gifs of ZYL as well haha.

I can't complain about his script choices, before Guardian he did not have much of a choice and he said he has…
Now it makes me wonder if there'll be blood in The Rebel! I'm quite looking forward o it.

Yes, an article on this man!

I have loved ZYL since Love for Three Lifetimes and think he's a brilliant actor, but I hate most of his script choices. Most of his characters tend to be tortured either physically or emotionally or sometimes both. In turn, we fans are tortured by watching him be tortured. It's not a ZYL drama if there's no blood spitting or some other form of torture. I sound like I'm complaining but I sit through those scenes in awe of his acting every time. XD

His photobook is really beautiful, by the way. I don't usually buy photobooks but I was elated when my friend brought it to me from China.

I haven't enjoyed a J-romance drama in years and it's rare to find a drama where none of the characters are annoying to me. The four leads did an amazing job and it was so easy to root for all of them.

I mean Asaba amazing, and I love his interaction with Kiki, they look like inspiring, challenging each other,…
Agree with you. Kiki and Makoto seem more like good friends to me. I think Makoto also understands that to an extent as well.

Just wish that the scriptwriter didn't make it so easy to root for the four of them.

Could you point me to the spoilers for the final episodes? Thanks.

I've only watched up to ep 4 but I'm really liking the development between Takumi and Kiki. However, I will say Kiki is an emotional wreck and shouldn't be thinking about romance right now. She just got over being rejected as an idol and should be focusing on her new career. Not that she can't do both work and romance at the same time, but I think her breakdown in ep 4 shows that she's not ready.

Kiki and Makoto seem more like friends and really good coworkers at this point. There's no romantic spark between them. The kabedon doesn't count and sorry, it wasn't romantic or dokidoki as some would put it.

As for Takumi and Riho, they haven't gotten over their breakup so that's unfinished business for them. Even if they were going to get back together, I feel like there's still a wall between them.

The episode is on bilibili. It's where I watch my JP variety shows. Oh yes, I forgot what else I watched but the MCs did point out he's been in showbiz much longer than some big names.

I remember first watching in the 2001 version of Mukodono (I feel super old) and thought he was such an amazing child actor back then. These days, I haven't been following his dramas but I do try to watch him on variety shows. I liked his recent appearance on TOKIO Kakeru where he did talk about being in showbiz for 25 years. He's the senpai actor in his generation for sure.

33 episodes in and I'm still enjoying this. Sure, there are loopholes, choppy edits and annoying characters (Duke An, Princess Xihe), but I'm quite pleased with the overall story. At least things aren't dragging on and on.

I recently rewatched Pride for her. Normally this is a drama I rewatch annually, but obviously this year was particularly hard to do so. I teared up at scenes I normally wouldn't have.
