Japan didn't "normalize" anything. It just IS normal because contrary to popular belief men and women…
i'm talking about casting issues in dramas💀 based on flashbacks, it's safe to assume that both male characters are supposed to be the same age or maybe 1-2 years older than the girls. it's hard to believe the girls are supposedly fighting over them when the guys look VISIBLY older. also, i was complaining about the double standard...if older woman/younger man pairings were normalized (meaning not being marketed as that sort of romance and the actors just happen to have an age gap), then i'd understand

there are multiple mainstream jdramas with older female actors and younger male actors. also. THE ML IS TAKERU…
i mean they do exist, but usually the age gap is not as extreme or sometimes they sell it as a older woman/younger man romance. my issue is that older man/younger woman castings are just seen as...normal. and actually while my longtime unpopular opinion is that sato takeru still looks too old to be playing the classmate of his younger female co-lead (mei in hanbun aoi), i was referring to yokoyama yu in my comment lmao
On Marry My Husband: Japan Feb 28, 2026
watched this months ago but i dont think ill ever forgive japan for normalizing pairing girls in their 20s-30s with old men who are 10-20 years older than them bc what do you mean i have to believe beautiful girls like fuka and sei are fighting over a man who is way too old for them..... PLEASE!! there are so many good younger actors like at least choose someone who ill believe is actually in the same year as fuka esp considering flashbacks are very important to the story...
i could tell that asano's plan wasnt about making shogo hers, but smth else... i feel like it has to do with shogo's promotion and how she wants it for herself, but it also seems like theres a revenge plot towards naho, even though naho doesnt seem to know who she is🤔 but in this week's ep, asano visits the family grave and naho mentions her parents both had affairs, making me think asano's parents was possibly involved with one of naho's.... which tbh is kinda giving marry my husband lmfao

Toru never seemed like a good guy to me. he seemed shady from the beginning.
lol you may have a point! i came into this show with a biased mindset since ive never seen tottsu play a shitty guy😭

iirc it was the first time he opened up about his family in the latest ep 😭
i feel like there are many couples, who are even married and/or have created a family together, who don't know everything about their partner's life... i can also imagine a newer couple who just moved in together not having discussed much about their upbringing, but rather focusing on their daily lives and busy schedules as young actors

i do agree that shirasaki making the decision to not talk to asami during the auditions makes it obvious he wasnt considering asami's feelings, but i would also argue that asami is a grown man who could speak up, if he really wanted to

shirasaki going to get drinks when he sees that asami has gotten a seemingly important private business call is just typical behavior here though? i feel like most people excuse themselves in a similar manner to show they're not trying to pry or listen in. or even when it's not a phone call... usually the response is to wait for someone to share rather than ask them, even if it is obvious something is going on. also, i could be remembering it differently, but when asami was starting to open up about his family situation, he basically said that his dad had gone back to england while him and his mom stayed in japan. i feel like none of the wording really implied that his dad essentially abandoned them and that asami and his mom don't have the greatest relationship because of that experience. of course, i personally would have followed up with some questions, but if i hear that someone recently got a letter from his dad and then he says that his dad has been living abroad for work for most of his life, i would assume that he still keeps in contact with his family and it isn't a no contact situation. i've heard of many people who had a parent, usually a dad, that didn't live at home bc of work and they still had a decent relationship bc it was just normal for them; it's not an uncommon situation here

with the most recent episode, i also feel like a lot of what asami shares is vague and can be interpreted otherwise... i'm not sure what the english subtitles are, but when he talks about how if he took the role he would basically be playing his father, it sounded like he didn't want to do it bc things weren't going well with his current movie and that he didn't have any confidence. obviously the audience understands asami doesn't want to act as the man who abandoned him, hence why he mentions his mom wouldn't be happy about it, but i also understand why shirasaki sees it as asami making excuses or why shirasaki sees it as unfair. i get why shirasaki gets frustrated and constantly compares himself to asami even if they have different paths. it's not pretty, but it's human, and i feel like it just makes sense with shirasaki, as a person in a creative field and who has a strong passion for the work he does. he is heavily blindsided by his work and his career and can't really separate it from other aspects of his life, which unfortunately results in unclear boundaries with a partner who is in the same industry

i definitely see what everybody means when it comes to shirasaki having an idolized image of asami and how he doesn't pay attention or seem intuitive when it comes to asami, but i also feel asami doesn't want to ruin that image either. it also makes complete sense why this is the conflict this season. asami can learn to let go of trying to live up to people's standards or forcing himself to present a certain way, which is a trauma response to his childhood. it doesn't seem healthy and maybe the miscommunication is a bit repetitive to some, but i see this as realistic relationship issues, which they will handle and become better from... asami will learn to be more honest and open, and shirasaki will realize he needs to be more attuned to how asami expresses himself (hopefully)

omg right?! ok thank you for clarifying!! i actually was feeling so lost bc i dont get why everyone expects shirasaki to understand what asami is going through when not once has asami tried to open up about his childhood and the negative impact its had on him.... shirasaki is very open and vocal about his issues with asami, which is why asami can help him through these things and probably is why hes hesitant to be as open, but it's not like shirasaki is a mind reader... he can only manage with the information that is given to him
On At 25:00, in Akasaka Season 2 Nov 30, 2025
many comments have been talking about how they feel shirasaki isnt supportive enough of asami and this struggle hes currently going on, but i feel a little confused bc i dont remember asami ever sharing the abandonment and neglect he experienced as a child and the impact it has on him in detail to shirasaki? it's been awhile since season 1 though, so 🤷🏽‍♀️

I still don't know why Anan was helping her dad?? Did she know the truth about the case and was willingly helping…
i think she didnt know the extent of his crimes... but i kinda figured she helped him bc her mother always cared about what her father thought about anan's successes... anan may have despised that about her mother, but i feel like anan adopting that quality is part of this drama being about being filial, in addition to parents

sad this is over! but considering how the last episode didnt feature hamao's character again, like i was expecting, i wonder if maybe they're going to try for a season 2....👀
honestly i was so scared that they were going to have ryo and ritsu end up together, but im glad they didnt... personally im kind of upset that they even created a scene where ritsu ends their friendship... i know it was for the plot, but it felt a bit like an ultimatum and i thought it was unfair that ryo was even made to feel guilty when ritsu should have known what was going to happen? i get that maybe he wanted to distance himself, but it just felt like...when guys become a girl's friend just to get with her and then they get upset when she wants to remain friends, like YOU put that expectation on her ??? anyways it was a nice transition to that scene where eri talks about still being herself despite getting married and having kids! im more on the side of ryo's mindset, but it is a nice reminder to put out into the world that getting married doesnt mean losing yourself or having to...

also i thought it was funny that they tried to include a bit of a "redemption scene" for meg's ex lol i get that he played a role in her character development but girl....i already forgot about him like 2 eps ago

Yea that is wild. But if she really changed herself and became a better person it probably wouldn't be enough…
oh for sure! it was definitely for the plot lol but ig i just find it frustrating bc i know people like that exist irl.... stupidly prioritizing love over family, etc, and this case it's worse bc she literally steals from them😭
