Not too crazy on fantasy either, but I strongly believe the story/romance is one which non-fantasy fans can enjoy. Had zero expectations going in, but once I started it was a ride til the very end. It even made me pick up the novel, though the drama is a lot more enjoyable/better imo. It's a very easy to watch drama (minus questionable CGI at times). Try it and let us know what you think !

People are so unnecessarily harsh, even though at first glance he isn't a knockout but to call him ugly is unfair. (I don't like the term "ugly" being used on anyone in general) but by no means is he unattractive! It's his acting and way he portrays his characters that make him so attractive, and his looks is the type that grows on you. Given the right look, he can look handsome. (I thought he was sexy af as his other character Mo Yuan. Think: hot young college professor but in xianxia setting XD )
Now viewers are even using an odd term to describe his acting: "cosmetic procedure acting" to describe actors who are not visually appealing (for their characters), but their acting transforms them to appear super attractive to viewers. Lol these Chinese audiences.

Poor Mark I remember in one BTS segment where the cast briefly introduces themselves and Mark says "I know I'm not handsome, but I hope you all will like my portrayal of this character". And here I'm thinking welp he's having the last laugh now.

I much prefer someone like Mark who may not have great visuals, but wins you over with his acting rather than looking good (Yang Yang). Yang Yang might be pretty but that's all there is/nothing more, and personally no amount of pretty can make up for the lack of acting which is frustrating to watch.

Hello dearest chingu :D it definitely isn't a drama for everyone if fantasy, historical mythology isn't your thing. But the story is beautiful - something even those not into fantasy can enjoy, and it gets better. I started with zero expectations heading this, and was gonna drop if I didn't like this but each episode surprisingly kept me going. A few episodes in, and I was along for the ride (though not addicted but it didn't take long to get there)!

Hehe Mark Chao stole everyone and their moms' hearts in this with his acting. He got so much flack prior to airing of this drama, because his character in the novel is supposed to be out of this world handsome and badass as it gets - being a Prince of the Heavens/Gods and all. And people deemed him not attractive enough (people were even calling him ugly). But he simply made people eat their words and feel bad for being such judgmental superficial assholes, proving that good acting is what makes the character and the show. Many compared him to Yang Yang who will be his character (in movie version), but now Yang Yang is the one with big shoes to fill.

hihi it was a good ending, I only wished they included the epilogue where Bai Qian is preggos with a lil bro/sis for Ah Li and Ah Li throwing a tantrum lol. As for shifu (cause you know you're waiting to hear this one!) he ends up alone but smiling/ happy for them cause that's what all amazing second leads do right?

What a journey. THANK YOU for being one of the best novel adaptations I have ever seen brought to life, if not made better. Mark Chao is so worth watching in this, aside from the story and pretty visuals (and contrary to what many thought of him before, he IS part of the latter). I will be missing this one for sure!

In stalker mode lately when it comes to anything Mark Chao related (thanks to Peach Blossoms), and him being a super devoted husband isn't helping? I almost wanna say Gao Yuanyuan you lucky woman, but she's gorgeous . sigh

Bai Qian is one lucky fox. What a girl gotta do to have fine men in their life like this?! Now I know it's going to be happy ending for our beloved OTP, and if Ye Hua never came back she really should consider Mo Yuan...just sayin'. The first drama where I ship the first and second lead males equally despite a serious case of Second Lead Syndrome. Oh and the best part? They're both Mark Chao XD

Mixed feelings about tomorrow I am going to miss seeing Ye Hua :( this drama is EVERYTHING for me, no doubt one of the best Chinese dramas I've seen ...gah

It will cover all of Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, but not Pillow Book. They didn't get the rights for Pillow Book, so anything here is a "loose" adaptation that makes for good filler.

It is dragged out in the sense that the novel by itself doesn't need 58 episodes, but with Pillow book and extended storylines for side characters being included it becomes a drama for everyone not just the leads. To their credit, it works. The audience is happy, and drama is raking in big bucks so everyone wins !

This is the first drama where 52 episodes blew by just like that and loved almost every minute of it. Can't believe show is ending this week nooo :(

Oooh!! I LOVED the original TVB drama for it. Kinda iffy when I heard there's a movie about a reunion of the leads but your review is making me reconsider. Have you seen the the soap before? And that OST ALWAYS ALWAYS gets me, Julian's best role by far.

Not only that but some subs are way off. I'm rewatching because I hope to understand certain parts better so it's frustrating when even I can tell it's wrong. But hey at least it's better than nothing I suppose.

Gosh I hated her as Su Jin but she was pretty darn good in that role I'll give her that

*pats pats* I love me some shifu-disciple romance too so I feel ya pain girl.. sooo tempted to write a Bai Qian - Mo Yuan fanfic just to make my heart hurt a little less for the guyyy :( sigh apparently Mo Yuan WAS supposed to be Ye Hua's first lifetime but then author decided to smoke crack ARGH WHYYY.
