Yeah. That is a normal thing in that time.
sadly , i am pretty sure, in some parts of the world, its not a thing of the past, but still "normal" that woman and girls are traded and sold by their families similar to cattle.

and well for the fathter daugther age gap thing, its not exactly normal in western countries, but its still not outlandish.
we still see much more old(er) man with young(er) women, than the other way round. and if its the other way round, people usually question or mock that couple, and say, the younger man surely will sooner or later, look for a younger woman, and could impossibly stay with a woman older than him.

aww glorious human double standard, it sucks.

i thought time travel stories are banned by their Chinese censorship office.
or is that rule only for like the long 45 min dramas, and doesn't count for mini dramas?

where did you read that china is banning micro dramas?do you have a source?
do they plan to ban it, or is it banning, coz according to how i see it on all those legal and illegal streaming sites, it seems like they are literallly flooded with thise mini / short dramas.
like half of the new uploads consists of these 10 or 20 min dramas.
maybe all the networks are releasing them, before they will be banned?

trust an elder senior lady of GenX (born 1979) here!i have been watching Hongkong/Taiwan/China wuxia ancient fantasy…
i still have in cellar, wrapped securely in plastic, the old VHS recorder from ähh where i bought it, when i was start to left home for university, it must be 1999. i have digitized my most important vhs tapes (do you can even imagine how hard it was , for us chinese descendant in Germany, back then in the 80/90s to get hold of the TVB / ATV shows on tapes? my uncles and aunts had to drive to netherlands , to their asian stores, to get hold of them. I still remember until now, coz back then, in germany there were so few to none asian supermarkets. it was truly hardship :PPPPP

ahh yeah, the bloodspitting. it must all the qi deviation internally, like the Nie's in untamed, hahah.
or the other stuff i was laughing all the time, the little red dot on the arms of the young girls, to indicate they were pure virgins. *headdesk*' no wonder . with ancient times not having sex education 101.

i remember driving my aunts and uncles crazy with me, questioning the logic of storytelling in chinese dramas all the time.
like another example, the plot device in nearly all old hk dramas, the heroes got chased, fell into a river or from a mountain, and was rescued by a master, who was a recluse on that mountain. i was just wondering all the time, how many mountains china has, and how many masters are hiding there XD

This drama is so unrealistic. I'm not talking about the plot but for almost everything else. Everything f.e is…
your comment is already 5 month old, i had this drama on the shelf for later. today, its public holiday from where i live, so i gave it a try , since i currently have dry spell on period dramas. you are right in your critisicms but honestly, majority of other modern contempary chinese dramas, that i have seen, are the same.
in that sense, chinese dramas are depicting either a complete unrealistic picture of their modern life, or maybe its just a TINY tiny slice of their population who have such cars, such homes, such houses, and so on.
its like in the 90, when i was a teenager, and was watching the american tv series , the original "beverly hills 90210". or later in the 2000 years, the series "gossip girl". i mean come on, how many americans do live the lives of the top 1% of thei US population?
everything on those two american series, also was mostly unrealistic for their normal average populationi.

so, i am watching these kind of series, no matter american or chinese, no matter historical or modern, mostly as some sort of fantasy storytelling and fantasy setting .

From ancient China to the Republican Era, plastic surgery skills throughout Chinese history seem even more advanced…
trust an elder senior lady of GenX (born 1979) here!
i have been watching Hongkong/Taiwan/China wuxia ancient fantasy republican contemporary and period television and cinema dramas since I was 3.
the best way to enjoy their storylines is, ALWAYS TURN OFF YOUR BRAIN AND LOGICAL WESTERN BRAIN.
then its all fine.

the site where i saw this show uploaded today, only had this sentence: it was very not saying anything at all, so I hoped, MDL was having a better one, only to found out, here is none, until I stumbled over your comments!
thanks!

this parents always interfere in child's love life
well, you know, in chinese culture, old ancient or modern age, it doesnt matter, its not called interfering, but its our culture's way to show care, right?
also, in most parts of the world , in the past (and in the present, though the percentage might be lower) , 90% of marriages were not about love, but about security, kids, safety, how to make alliances, how to secure the wealth of the family and so on.

not saying, thats right or wrong, but as a 45 yrs old, who was born and grew up in germany, with vietnamese and chinese family/roots/anciestry?
my family had tried to set me up, with arranged dates and potential husband men, until I was 35. I went with those, to indulge my family, but honestly, it would not occur to me, to come with any western romantic ideas of "free love " and "we are free to chose whom we marry and then who we divorce" and so on.

either way, i am a happy single women without kids or partners (i am aromantic, asexual, no desire for kids or man/women, and i am on the spectrum of introvert and autistic), i guess i am more lucky, living in a country which allows me this legal and financial freedom to say no to my family, without ending on the streets or without being cast out of the family and so on. (unlike for example, if i were in some parts of probably china or india)

hahah sorry, for sounding like an old aunty to lecture you on this, but i guess, comments like yours (not you specific) always trigger me, with their judgemental tone about how other cultures set up their marriages .

Not gonna lie, Tan will be starring in all my dramas, playing all the roles 🤣😹
well, most of the male leads in wuxia / xianxia whatever martial fantasy world of chinese dramas you are, are having that elf like long hair already. its just all black or white, instead of ähh white and blonde or brown, lol.

you know, one of the reasons i returned to or rather was enticed by mainland chinese dramas, i was so tired of all the sex, blood, and uglyness (the human mental uglyness, not the actors) of american shows. it was like the last 20 years, the US television tried the ardest, to be over the top realistic fantasy like game of thrones, and at the same time, its just... i am done with all the incest, ugly murders, porn and the having americam male and female actors over the top nudity on screen, and "realistic" settings of american tv. I honestly tired of rape, and violence porn, and real porn, and sweaty bodies rubbing at each other on screen. as it is more or less prevalent on US TV.

so yeah, i rather take anytime chinese unrealistic, absolutely over the top photoshopped faces over "real" american nude skin of any kind of actors of any given ethnicity. or over the top chinese romantic unrealistic idealistic romance love stories, than the ugly american divorce, cheating, incest , rape , sex porn whatever.

we all have really really ugly realities, in which we are living. i see no sense in wanting to see that ugly reality mirrored on my tv.
i am so done.
i want fairytale nevergonnahappend in real live, stories, and if that is tied with and filled with chinese propaganda , so be it.

hahah if that day is coming, i will say fuck you , to all and any colorists, racists, and whatever people, and will take lord of the rings, and make the entire cast with chinese actors.
and vice versa, i will take one of chinas most beloved lore, Legend of the condor heroes, and make the entire cast with white actors.
hahah, then white and chinese nationalist racists probably will all want to kill me.

honestly, my entire facebook feed is full of this 1st may hoax.
my guess, its the biggest melon of the year.

my bet is rather, we will have to wait until AI and deepfakes are so good and soooooo cheap, that once you can feed it with the novel, and we are not breaking any IP laws between Washington and Beijing, facing death penalty, with the faces of actors we like, we will have to make those dramas ourselves.

on the other side, youtube these days, is full with fake trailers such as these :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYAAYj17RPk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae6Qff0mgbE

its only a matter of when it comes to our computers, not IF.
hopefully before I retire in 2045, the technology is cheap enough for the dumb audience like me, to make our own dramas in private, with all the faces of the stars we like, hahah

Of course it is a Chinese propaganda movie, but as China has now made a vey successful comeback to the world scene…
LOL "Propaganda is everywhere, eating is up is the risky bit"

reading this by you, makes me wish, Germans were so self-flaggelating people due to their own history of Nazi World War 2.

all the propaganda here, is just always OHH woe us germans, we were so bad 80 years ago, we must be hold down and apologize for the next 800 years, before we are done with atoning from our atrocities in the war.

"Of course we grown up with Hollywood movies where US soldiers are always at the right side and win all the times, save the world from the hands of dictatorship again and again "

well, then we certainly grew up in different eras.
I am 45 , i am half chinese half vietnamese, and i grew up in Germany, coz my family had to flee from Vietnam, due to the communists there.

what i saw in Germany, absolutely agree there are hyper patriotic US movies, BUT that is the difference to China, there are and were also movies like https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalypse_Now and full metal jacket, platoon and tons of other movies, that ripped the american policy and military engagement worldwide , not just in vietnam, apart.
or they make completely fun of their dumb and silly wars, like with movies Hot Shots .
or they have tv dramas, like Homeland , a couple of years ago, where everything was ripped apart, what America was doing since 9/11 in the middle east .

" Normal, they only have western media while we have both. Period. "

sorry that is half the truth. its true, that most westerners rely on having American media.
i am not "Most westerners" , i grew up, also knowing and seeing, how "good" criticism of ones own history can be done.
i of course, speak of the tv dramas of Hongkong of the 80/90 decades. when HongKong still had artistic freedom, their directors could make movies, that critizse everything, from how China (no matter under the communists or the KMT, or any other party) was wrong.
they were able to say, Japanese did kill their way through asia, they were pretty bad people, but so were "we" (the we being the Chinese people from all parties during the first and second World war. )
Hongkong directors were able to say, everyone was "bad" and evil during that period of time. Chinese, Japanse, Americans, Vietnamese, everyone did evil things.

the day, i will defend current communist china? as a person, who has Chinese ancestry. will only be the day, where China is not glorying its past and is also no vilifying countries such as japan in movies.

"Why don't people say that Hollywood or the US are pushing propaganda or portraying these other cultures and people in negative lights? Thank you my smart MDL peeps! See you soon."

well if it helps, i am always saying, both sides have awesome propaganda. USA and America.
its just, America has the freedom of also having ANTI-propaganda, considering all the later movies, that depicted the military crimes in for example the Vietnam War.
none of the war after WW2 , where America has intervened, has turned out ot be "Just" or "Fair".
the only generation up until now, that participated in war, and that is dubbed the "greatest generation ever" is the american generation, that helped europe to win WW2.

but, i have faith in China, the country of my ancestors. one day, it doesnt matter if its in 20 years or 100 yrs, they will get there, where America was in the last century:
the peak of the world, the world hegemon.

just because i despise the communists, doesnt mean though, that i am not completely proud of my chinese anciestry.
those two things, are just not the same.
just cause my family hates any and everything related to communists , doesnt mean though, that we are not proud chinese .

things are seldom clear cut and black and white. if one day in the future, china is able to critize their own faults, mistakes and millions of death in their communistic revolution efforts the last 70 years?

communist party tried spending like 50 or 60 years, destroying everything related to the old china, the imperial system, anything related to confuzius.
and the last 30 years, when it seems like , that old stuff brings money, and helps them to keep their people in line? suddenly confucius is hugely popular again. lol.
hypocrisy at its best.
but hey, thats not something they invented.
america is the same.
but their hypocrisy is more bearable (from my point of view) since they managed the last 40 years, to have movies and tv series, that shows them in a negative light.
