for the most part (from episodes 1-36 at least) it isn't toxic. jingling tries to regard shen lige as a friend and doesn't get in the way with lige's love interests. i do think that'll change when he betrays them all, however i don't think it's for that reason specifically.

did i say something wrong? haha sorry about that. but yeah for the second sentence you're right, cdramas and their earnings mostly come from mainland china. the big goal for production is to get the drama popular and all over social media (douyin, weibo, etc.) people typically don't understand this so they just bash chinese directors and disrespect actors. i've seen this one person repeatedly call chinese directors/actresses "stupid, ignorant, lazy, incompetent, and void of brain." they call chinese directors stupid and the chinese film industry incompetent, but in reality they're just trying to satisfy their audience. sadly not many people understand or come across explanations like these.
