omg. This is so naive and disgusting. Your comment illustrates the insanity that drove LSK to take his life. Rather…
Yeah, I was right...you're mixed up AND nuts.

And I'm tired of trying to communicate ESL MDLers whose grasp of the language is as weak as yours.

Either you have me mixed up with someone else or you're nuts or, more likely, both. Your comment is full of psycho accusations about things I never said. It may just be that your English sucks on top of your crazy.

I'm done with your BS.

I hear you and agree on all your points. However, don't you find yourself slightly intrigued as to how it is now…
No, I don't find myself intrigued. At all. :)

Boring, predictable tropes and cliches are...boring.

I'm just here to look at Sakae. I'd be here to look at the ex-BF, who is beautiful, also but the actor is playing him so well, and I loathe that type of person, that I don't actually find him sexually attractive.

I don't buy Sakae being in love with the nerd at all. It feels very artificial; as if he's acting out the script but there's no believable passion, lust, or yearning. Just an actor saying lines written to indicate those emotions, but the emotions are missing.

Damn, I adore Fukaya Ka's character. I've always been seriously turned on by a man who is direct, speaks his mind…
I was mostly bored, but totally agree with you about the way the restaurant owner is acting regarding Kai.
Why the hell couldn't Kai have kept the restaurant running while the owner is in the hospital?
Why doesn't the owner care that his asshole son is preventing Kai from visiting him in the hospital?
Why doesn't the owner care that his asshole son kicked Kai out of the house?
Makes me wonder if Kai is just playing Hiro for a place to stay...actually, that would be a provocative and interesting plot development in what otherwise has been a dull story since the first episode hand job.

As far as whatever the writer/director is/are trying to say, I'm getting something about Kai expecting nothing out of life, so that's what he gets. That's why he seems so blase' about everything, and events that one would expect to be upsetting, don't bother him. He doesn't expect them to go well in the first place. Which is why he wasn't angry about Hiro standing him up for the festival.

The only area in which he seems to care about a specific outcome he desires is in his pursuit of Hiro. However, if that's the case, why did he make no effort over a period of years to contact him until he had nowhere else to live?

I don't know...I'm just kind of blah about this one. It's not bad enough to drop, but it's not very engaging either.

Not me being this late to realize that My Produce 48 pick, Murase Sae is in it. I'm sorry Sae I have to drop this,…
Totally feel you but I'm sticking with it at least one more week.

Too bad to see this new-ish BL circle down the drain like other recent Japanese/Korean/Taiwanese BLs. Totally cliche plot, writing, dialogue, everything. Evil ex turns up, you know he's a snake, so you say "sure, come and work here and move in with me!" Yeah, that's believable.

No denying the guy is hot, and has one of the best platinum dye jobs I've seen in a BL (usually they don't leave the bleach on long enough and it comes out orange), but he's playing his part well and it's clear, even to someone who didn't know him, that he's a user and manipulator, no matter how hot.

But good heavens, the two of them look beautiful together, and the chemistry, lacking between the chef and the nerd, is off the charts with blondie.

Then, of course we have the nerd walking in at JUST the exact, precise moment he needed to to fulfill the writers' wish to use yet another lame BL trope, blah blah blah. Should have had him walk in on them doing the deed on the countertop. Now THAT would be some original writing.

oooh, and now the exciting dilemma of a possible move back to Tokyo in a YEAR, as if that's not enough time to figure things out together. I'm not putting this under a spoiler because it's just so lame and predictable; it's not like some huge, tidal wave of a plot twist, lol.

hmmm...pondering whether to drop or stick with it. Sakae is like cool water to the desert of my eyeballs, and I like his character too, so maybe one more episode. But this is one of those BLs I'll forget within two weeks of its finale.

Not one, single original thing about it.

Every good BL on MDL is underrated, and the shitty ones are highly OVER-rated. That said, to me an 8.2/10 rating…
No, not that I know of.

Please quote me where I said "everyone should have the same opinion." I'll wait while you try to find that statement in my comment. You make up shit and then respond to it.

As for the rest of your extremely bitchy, nasty comment, bite me. If I feel a show is shit, I'll shit on it and I don't have to worry about your overly sensitive fee-fees while I'm doing it.

I love how you blather about propriety and blah blah blah, while calling me a bitch once and an asshole twice. How very "proper" of you. lol

God...MDL...

"Also, from my point of view, I think he can't accept a bl series that shows how the world really works. By that I mean something like relationships aren't always nice and cute."

Good god, how stupid. Is having an AI robot as a lover "how the world really works?"

"By that I mean something like relationships aren't always nice and cute."

Is there anything about the relationship in this show that is NOT nice and cute?" Do you even know what you're writing?

wonder how they are going to bring Yu XI Gu (Huang) back
Our beloved, scrawny little love-bug Xi Gu, is not dead. He is alive, either in a coma in a hospital where he was placed by his aunt after the accident, or he has regained consciousness and is living fully, but with all memory of his prior life wiped away.

Evidence:
After Xi Gu was hit by a car and taken away by ambulance no doubt, Hao Ting never saw him again. As his ex-high school GF said over dinner after they ran into each other in the store where she was working, NO ONE, Xi Gu, her, any of his friends or teachers or anyone else they knew ever saw Xi Gu again. All they know is they were TOLD Xi Gu's aunt wanted a quick and quiet funeral and that was it. Why? Why could none of his friends attend his funeral? Well...because he wasn't dead.
2. Hao Ting's mom, her heart breaking at seeing her son still mourning Xi Gu so powerfully after six years, urged him strongly to quit living in a frenzy, slow down, and start living again; to begin engaging with people again.
3. Hao Ting's mom and dad now pushing him to move forward with this "Phoebe" person, and if not with her, some other girl.
4. Especially from Hao Ting's mom, I've always felt an undertone of discomfort as she said these things to him, especially when saying them to him alone in his room. I believe her discomfort stems from guilt.
5. The bizarro-world, Xi Gu-doppelganger plot thing. Seriously, wtf? Hao Ting meets some dude on his hiking trips who just so happens to look EXACTLY like Xi Gu, in every way possible, from head to toe? And THEN he chooses to hang out with him? I get that his telling the doppelganger farewell for good can be read at least two or three different ways, but to me Hao Ting is saying goodbye to pretending that Xi Gu is still alive. This is why when he was with the doppelganger in the coffee shop and saw his sister waiting outside, he quickly left to join her. Had she looked in the window, she would have seen him sitting alone, talking to no one. (Or to someone who looked exactly like Xi Gu, which would have freaked her out of course, but that's not part of my theory.)
6. Hao-Ting's obliterating crying jags, alone and in front of his mom and Bo Xiang, during the latter of which especially, we saw the harrowing depth of his despair/the black hole he was living at the bottom of his realization he could not go on indefinitely. Sadly, he also made it clear he had TRIED to go on, to "forget him" but could not. So where does that leave us? To me, the final scene during which we see HT and BX sitting on the river bank discussing things, when HT talks about going somewhere he can get close enough to "touch Xi Gu," he is saying that when he reaches that place he will take his own life and join XG among the stars.

Summary of theory:
XG was hit by a car and rushed to a hospital.
HT and no one else from the school ever saw him again.
XG's aunt placed him in long-term care for coma patients.
HT's parents made inquiries and learning of this, conspired with XG's aunt to put out the cover story that XG had died and been quickly and quietly buried/cremated.
They did this to end the troublesome XG/HT relationship, which none of them were comfortable with and, in their twisted minds, to free HT to get "straight" again, fly right, and find some broad with functional ovaries to marry and make babies with.
What better opportunity to solve what they all saw as a problem than XG's coma?
XG is either still in a coma, has regained consciousness but with total amnesia but is STILL in a hospital, or has made or is making a full physical recovery, but with zero memory of his former life, including HT. If the latter, he is learning or has learned all over again, how to read, write, walk, talk, everything from scratch. He may be leading a fully recovered life somewhere, oblivious of all that he lived before but troubled by occasional, vivid dreams of a handsome, athletic young man who loved him named Tao Hing...? Ting Hao? Zing Wow?

This works as an ending regardless of whether a sequel was ever planned or will ever happen or not. There are too many odd little touches in that last episode for them not to be relevant, especially the quick funeral and burial, HT's talk of "getting close enough to touch XG in the stars," and the science fiction-worthy "doppelganger" angle.

Anyone who wishes to comment on this theory, please feel free. But please keep your replies non-abusive. :D Thank you.

haha...ikr?

I've watched this show three times in three years, and this theory only came to me between the second and third watch and during the third watch. Too many hints and clues for them not to mean anything.

Besides, would the producers bother to do a season 2 that didn't resurrect XY? First of all, no one in the audience would care about a story without XY, and secondly there would be riots in the streets.

Below, under the spoiler tag, is my entire theory, written in obsessive depth after my third watch of this show last week. Make of it what you will;
Jibug Feb 9, 2024
Curious: Why does an "age gap" of no more than five years bother you so much?
Why do you think the girl is "ace?"
Why do you think that just because a young gay man claims to "love" a straight woman in a straight way, that he is telling the truth, when it is made clear, even by a couple of things you mentioned, that he is in love with the dude?
Why is it not that he's simply lying, as do a lot of gay men trapped in his situation?
It seems to me from what you wrote, that you get the "message" of this drama, but you don't realize it.

Me, who has seen my mister, really disagreeing with lousy actress..
Hi Moonlight!

JUST KILL YOURSELF PLEASE?

Seriously?

You just set up an account for the sole purpose of telling a rando on the Internet, who you claim to recognize as "sad and depressed," to kill themselves. And I'M the asshole?

You are deeply fucked up, and this is one of the most hilarious instances of classic projection I have ever seen.

I'll see if I can convince the mods that YOU are the brand-new "sockmaballs." They can probably nail you with your IP address.

Can't be. Otherwise the cast would make zero sense.
Totally agree. Upon my last watch of GR, that's exactly what I did: Stopped watching after the first group wedding shot was taken.

Not only is the actual ending an abomination and profoundly stupid, the extra stuff with the surviving partner being perfectly happy with his hallucinations of his dead boyfriend coming to visit from time to time, as well as having that imaginary female friend. WTF was that all about?

Wrong. Rushed funeral, no one allowed to attend. Why? HT nor any of the friends ever saw him after the accident. Why include that if it doesn't mean anything? I think HT's mom knows, maybe the dad too. She was awfully jittery when pushing HT to "move on."

Pretending YX is dead was their perfect opportunity to "fix" things so HT would end up marrying some dumb broad. They were pushing some Phoebe chick at him at the end of the first season.

My prediction: YX is or was in a coma, after which he has no memory of his previous life. He does, however, have strange dreams about this tall, athletic dude who loves him.
