Lmao, I don't blame you for being confused, it was dramatic. Before Wei Yan left, he vowed that for as long as grandma was alive, he would never raise a hand against Wei State. Cutting off a pinky was just a gesture of his sincerity, since he mentioned his hand in his vow.

Title The Prisoner of Beauty Spoiler
Can someone explain if Wei Yan was forced to remain in Wei State because of Grandma and Wei Shao, meaning like…
He wasn't a hostage prince. His mother came back to Wei state when she was pregnant. After she gave birth, she passed away, so Wei Yan was just raised as a Wei. After Wei Shao and grandma realized that Wei Yan knew his origins, they didn't hold him hostage; they wanted him to stay in Wei state because they loved him and couldn't bear to be parted from him. It was just out of love, nothing political.

I can't believe this drama is ending tmr, ik this is unpopular but I rlly enjoy watching dramas as they air because…
I love being able to binge a completed drama, but when I do that, I usually have no one to fangirl with because most people have already moved on from the drama, so it is so lonely lol. There's just something so special about watching a drama as it airs. I get to watch it with other viewers, and we are all able to discuss each episode after we watch them. It's so lively, such a fun experience. :')

This drama is so well casted too. The actress playing the aunt looks just as graciously written.
yes, I think so too! the actress have a kind face and it immediately makes you feel safe around her.

Can we just admire how amazing Manman's aunt is? It is rare to see such a genuinely kind and loving aunt in a cdrama. Often times, paternal aunts are portrayed as petty, jealous, and evil women who pit cousins against each other and scheme to ruin their orphaned nieces and nephews' lives, but not here. I love how Manman's aunt loves Manman and Qiao Ci as her own, and even though Da Qiao is her only biological child, you can clearly see there is no favoritism at all. What a beautiful and virtuous woman auntie is.

Manman's ungrateful and small minded uncle do not deserve his wife at all.

South American parents tooo. I love how similar to Asians we are. Our parents don't say "sorry", they bring us…
Lmao, yesss. Same thing. Bonded by our traumas. 😅🤝

Sorry, what does that mean? Asian dad?
Ah, so in many Asian families, parents are quick to lecture/punish you when they're mad, but they rarely say sorry to you when they're wrong. Instead of apologizing directly to their children, they will cook meals for them or peel fruits for them as a gesture of an apology instead.

A lot of us Asian kids grew up with parents like this, so it was just funny to see Wei Shao bring Manman two fruits after scolding her lol.

In episode 2 the woman with the mark on her forehead lies about her voice and frames fl’s clan. Does this arc…
What I really like about our main couple is that they are very good at clearing up any misunderstandings between them pretty quickly. That problem with Yulou accusing the Qiao clan won't last long, don't worry :)

Why ppl keep forgetting that Marquis is actually a bad person? Not bad actually a psychopath, how disgusting it…
you're right. the marquis is evil and he should be punished for everything he has done. it's just that the actor who portrays him is just so good. his screen presence is impressive and one can't help but acknowledge his aura when he's on screen.

he should still go to hell though lol

Just when I thought episode 29 was the best episode yet, we got episode 30 and it was even better. This episode…
Oh, I see your point. And yes, I can agree with that.

I think we feel so strongly for these characters because although they might be fictional, we see ourselves in them and so we become protective of them.

Hate them or love them, if a writer can get us to care for their characters then they've done their job lol.

Title The Prisoner of Beauty Spoiler
Just when I thought episode 29 was the best episode yet, we got episode 30 and it was even better. This episode…
XQ did suggested that DQ and BZ go to Boya to take over it, but let's not forget that BZ also wanted to be the leader of Boya. XQ might have suggested the idea, but DQ didn't tell BZ about it. BZ became the leader of Boya on his own because he wanted it. When DQ told him that they should run away and leave Boya together, he said no. So blaming XQ entirely for them being in Boya is unfair.

You said, "Manman did not really care at first about the losses that Wei Shao could have suffered, she used all the stratagems to counter his maneuvers if wei Shao had taken Boya he would not have been in this situation but Manman and the reason why Wei Shao did not take Boya" but she didn't even think of doing anything like this until she learned that Wei Shao was stationing soldiers around her homeland. She wasn't the one who was constantly threatening to kill all Weis and everyone in Wei state though; he was the one threatening her people and her homeland. She only wanted to protect her loved ones. So if it was you and you knew that people you loved were going to die, you would just sit back and do nothing?

Again, the Deer Hunt was an unfortunate situation. XQ wanted DQ and BZ to be there, but there wasn't enough time for her to solve the mess with Yulou and send an invitation out. To hold this against XQ as if XQ was purposely trying to be evil toward her own sister is ridiculous.

It has been clear from the very beginning that the book and the drama are two very different stories. In the drama, Wei never denied help to Boya when Boya asked, and Wei even sent supplies. I'm not sure why you are faulting the drama's version of XQ so much for something you believe happened in the book. They are not the same at all.

"she hoped that Wei Shao could defend Yanzhou by taking risks instead of taking sides to save Wei Shao. She didn't try to dissuade him from dividing his troops because she was relieved by Wei Shao's choice."
^ To this, I say XQ never asked Wei Shao to defend her homeland. She even said that she would understand if he only protected his own. It was his grandmother who advised him to protect Yanzhou. XQ did not dissuade him because she understood that he was his own person and she allowed him to make his own decisions. She wasn't relieved by his choice, she was touched by it. She was still very much concerned for him going to war regardless of where he went at all.

"Before wanting to save others, she must think about protecting the one who protects her and really helps her." You say this, but ignore the fact that DQ did not help the ones who really helped her. I can name numerous times that XQ has done something for DQ. What have DQ done for XQ? The ironic thing is if you only care for yourself, when the time comes for your destruction, no one will be left to help you.

Hmm, in my original post I did in fact say that although I was frustrated with DQ, I understood where she was coming from though? And I also said if I was put in the same situation as her, I would have a hard time too. I sympathize with her because it is in our nature to want to stay out of harm's way, but I also can't ignore that her words and actions were hurtful not just to her sister, her maiden famiy, and the people of both Wei and Yanzhou, but her decision to not help will also harm her very own husband in the future if Wei Shao fails to defend. Because let's be real, if LY isn't stopped now he will eventually take Boya, so her husband will suffer regardless. It's just a matter of if you want to suffer with allies or suffer alone.

Neither XQ or DQ are bad people. It was a horrible situation to be in for the both of them, but one of them wants to protect as many people as possible and one of them only wants to protect herself and the one she loves. Viewers are allowed to feel a certain way about this.
