I actually like when they do the voiceovers, because no one really thinks out loud all the time in real life.…
I think @jpny01 is right about the voiceovers. The voiceovers keep telling us a character's thoughts and feelings which acting could easily convey. It breaks that classic rule in writing - "show not tell". If you think about more expensive productions, they rarely ever do character voiceovers like this.
Also, I'm not saying voiceovers are bad. I have seen the voiceover style described used as a comedic effect through multiple characters effectively. I have also seen a different character voiceover which works well used in "Not Me" and "Theory of Love" where it's more for a narration of events or to understand a character's in-depth emotions which would be impossible to do through acting. It also usually achieved through one character's perspective only (first person narration). In Not Me, it was purely just from White. In Theory of Love - Third (first half), Khai (2nd half).
At the end of the day, does the voice overs completely destroy the show; definitely not (I'm quite liking this show), but it would be a cleaner production without it. Also we don't know what happened behind the scenes. Maybe it was originally written with voiceovers or maybe they tried to achieve this through acting but realised they didn't get what they were hoping so added them in.
Yes they f did, in case someone comes wondering, not even 1 extra scene. I better put on my boxing gear.
I'm not surprised at all but still annoyed. I don't think there is any show which has had a movie version that's had original content. Only Hello Stranger comes to mind.
Korean BLs continue to disappoint me. I keep turning up for a main course but they keep serving us entrees. I originally thought the short format was going to be their break into the BL industry but they have kept with it. Top it off with the lack of chemistry between the leads with the average story telling, it just becomes another show which will be forgotten about tomorrow.
I partially do. It is one of the weird things that keeps coming up in Thai BL. This is just acting so it's sorta…
Yeah I agree, it is not really a problem in this show in particular because as you said this is a family friendly show. I was trying to address a wider trend(?) I’ve seen in BL not just this show and how fanservice makes it slightly more complex than just acting sometimes. So the OG commenter’s viewpoint is not overly unwarranted.
in this show the two mail leads have an 9 year age gap... 18 and 27... I have somewhat of a problem with that...…
I partially do. It is one of the weird things that keeps coming up in Thai BL. This is just acting so it's sorta fine and it doesn't lean into the age difference like cutie pie did. Also, if this was real life then I would have more of a problem? But then some BL actors do fan service where the lines between fantasy and reality are blurred and that's where it gets a bit weird. Eg. ZeeNunew "confirmed" their relationship last month so is it really just acting?
The problem for me isn't the 9 years, it's usually one just turned 18 and the other is in his late twenty's which has a very different maturity level. I see people looking squarely at the age difference which is not enough. Like a 14yr old dating a 21 yr old is obviously not the same as 24 dating a 31 yr old.
It's just you. They're playing characters that are almost the same age. Nobody seems to mind Earth and Santa,…
People did mind. Earth got so much hate over a tiktok he made with Santa 1-2 months ago which is kind of sad, but a significant reason I think he got hate was due to homophobia.
I'm really loving Noey's character. He is kind of mysterious and I love how he has that 70/80s style. He doesn't even carry a phone. He also seems to have very strong principles. I'm not really enjoying Thi's character though. I wish they were a bit more intricate and we got to explore his life more. He seems to cower in fear for most of the episode. Ep 4 felt a bit more of a filler episode. When it finished I thought "that's it?, not much happened thus far." I feel like it would be less of a problem if I was binging this series but watching week by week I got little satisfaction from the latest episode.
I have to say that I didn't enjoy this episode (except for the "helmet"). It's getting repetitive and Thi is getting…
Agreed. I love how My Class President Ep 2 threw me off this week. I was expecting that reveal from showing the other persons view 2/3 of the show through (like we saw in 2gether). It makes an unoriginal plot seem more original?
Thi was just constantly annoying me this episode. We kind of got the same constipated look from him the whole episode but I don't blame acting. I think there isn't really much to do with him as a character. He is very one dimensional.
Thai BL needs to stop trying to milk as much money from these shows because too many series are choosing quantity over quality and it's really dragging these series down.
This movie was disappointing and kind of dry. It didn't really do anything for me. Without the light-hearted cartoonish acting that we saw in the show, their story and chemistry felt really flat. I didn't even see any real development in their chemistry across the movie. I wasn't particular moved at any point, may be only when his mum accepted them, but I just don't feel any love between the two leads.
BLs really need to start focusing on writing because so many shows with potential keep have disappointing storylines. This show didn't know what it wanted to be. It started off dirty angst, then turned into a comedy for a bit, then continued mostly as a melodrama. Also, I know people say they didn't have much to work with the original story, but that' doesn't mean it needed to be disjointed and lacking substance.
Also, I'm surprised that to entice us to a second season they have given us a lacklustre final episode.
Idk I've just been disappointed with the shows Star Hunter Entertainment has been putting out. I think I'm going to wait from now on until they are fully released and let others vet them.
Seriously this series is great. Plot wise really good, characters are well written and their chemistry was pretty good. I wish more Thai series had this level of detail and cohesiveness with their writing. I see people talking about the kiss. I've gotten so use to not expecting a kiss in Japanese BLs. It almost felt right not to see one, but I also know that this decision was made due to homophobia. I can only hope Japan progresses to a more accepting society in the future.
