The manga finished being published back in 2010 so there is a gap between how teenagers are nowadays and how they were when the characters were written. I can only imagine how you feel about 2026 teenagers when I who was one only 15 years go already feel such a huge generational gap.
Teenagers used to be a lot more mature so it makes sense you would find some characters not realistic or authentic. I do feel this adaptation could not capture some things the original work (manga) did. The Ninako from the manga felt more authentic than the one here.
Going off the subject is something I do all the time too. No worries.
I will turn 32 next month so it has also been a while since I finished high school. I agree the other couples were more mature...to the point it was not very realistic since they are teenagers.
"but where I grew up very few girls would confess to a boy directly: probably for the obvious reason of fear of rejection/embarrassment etc but that's what it was like: confessing to someone who already has a girlfriend is definitely not on."
That is exactly my point. Ninako was not THAT passive. If she was she would have never confessed first. She was passive, yes, but Ren, being the guy, was even more passive.
I read the manga back in 2010 so I am probably being more forgiving than I should but also...they are teenagers so we cannot expect them to make mature decisions and be experts at communicating their feelings and thoughts.
But we agree on something, I also prefer Ao Haru Ride over Strobe Edge.
How old are you, if you do not mind me asking?I read the manga back in 2010 when I was in high school and although…
I will be 32 next month. And yes, this was very nostalgic. I am sure if I had not read the manga a long time ago, I would not have been so forgiving with this adaptation.
I read the manga once, over 15 years ago, but somehow still remembered most of the characters and their personalities. Usually I am not a fan of unrequited love plots but this was a manga I read while being in an unrequited love myself and my teenage self could relate to the characters, probably why it made such a big impact that I still remember the manga after so many years.
What were you expecting Ninako to do, throw herself at him while he had a girlfriend or right after he broke up and he himself said he did not want to think about dating? She confessed once. He rejected her...as he should since he had a girlfriend.
Once he was single, he should be the one chasing after Ninako, not her. He put very little effort into the relationship, if she did not ran after him at the end and told him her feelings...AGAIN, he might have stayed quiet and just assumed she had gotten over him without even getting a proper reply to his confession and like that they would just graduate and each go their own way.
When I read the manga back in 2010 I was in high school and also had a crush on someone who was just like Ren, so I saw him in a better light but now as an adult, Rens' passiveness got on my nerves a lot more than Ninakos'.
As a big fan of the original piece, this adaptation just felt soooo flat for me idk...I loved the Ao Haru Ride…
How old are you, if you do not mind me asking?
I read the manga back in 2010 when I was in high school and although I felt the adaptation was decent, because I am now an adult I feel a bit differently about the story.
I read the manga back in 2010 while I was in high school and having an unrequited crush too. It has been a long time since I read it but this was a decent adaptation of the manga.
As an adult woman now, I see the story a bit differently.
I did not like how Ren spent time with Ninako when he had a girlfriend or how Ninako insisted on being around him when she knew this and the girlfriend was also the sister of her long time friend. Ren is not as good of a boyfriend material as I found him to be back in high school, same thing about the guy I liked back then...I would never like someone like him now. It is interesting how your perspective about something can change as you grow up. As a teenage girl, like Ninako, I felt sticking to your feelings was more important than anything and that I would choose the guy I love over the guy who loves me. Ninako was there waiting for the entire drama while Ren did little to pursue her. Even when he finally confessed he did not even wait for her reply and just assumed she rejected him. I would imagine he would be a big headache to have as a husband.
But were talking about teenagers so the way they acted was pretty realistic, frustrating and dumb but realistic. It was a nostalgic watch.
So I don't understand something, it's confusing. In the first episode, the king says he has been in that world…
I guess you just started watching. Yes, he lied. He has been there for 15 years, since he was a teenager. The actor that plays his son is even used later on to portray his younger version from back when he transmitigated.
There are a few things that might seem confusing at first like that or the role of the SFL but everything will be slowly explained with every new episode.
I finished it few hours ago too, and I didn't skip scenes, but you really didn't miss anything as almost nothing…
Yes. The beginning was good. Even tho the plot was not new to me, the first few episodes felt interesting enough that I wanted to keep watching but then, like you said, they kept recycling events, conversations, it felt like more of the same, it became a task to watch.
I felt the exact same way, even the start of my comment was also about how long this "short" drama felt. I never felt so forced to finish a short drama. The plot was moving but at the same time it felt like it stayed in the same place, it was really weird. Not the actors fault tho, it was the writing, the pace was off.
The longest short drama I have watched...and I am not talking about watch hours.
The plot is already nothing original, a few months ago I watched another short drama with the exact same premise and character setting. The problem is the writing.
I was not even at the middle of the drama and was already wishing it would just end, then I looked and I had watched less than 10 episodes but it felt like I had watched 60. Around episode 12 or so I just started skipping scenes, then episodes, then I just went to the last episode and at the end I just had one thought: phew, it is finally over.
I don't think it was the actors fault, they did well, it was the writing, the editing, Idk. Things were happening but at the same time it felt like the plot was not progressing.
So yeah, not worth your time. I cannot remember the name of the other short drama with a VERY similar plot but if you have already come across it, don't bother watching this one. At least that one did not make me feel like I was forcing myself to watch it.
I dont have a good feeling about xie yong erðŸ˜ðŸ˜I swear to god if prince duan does anything to her
Your feeling is most likely right. When a supporting character is suddenly the focus and is shown having fun with the main leads...they are about to die. That is what my experience watching dramas for 15 years has taught me.
I am guessing during the final confrontation with Xiahou Bo, Mr. Bei will die too. :(
Ep 23 and 24 ,Dayummmm is all I can say. I find the tyrant version of himself so hot. I was kinda scared , his…
These 2 episodes were some of the best in the past week. The episodes around the Yan people had some more slow scenes that I was not as interested in but ep 23 and 24 came to shake things up. Hopefully it will keep being this interesting as the ending is getting near. I wish it would not end tho. Will probably rewatch it from the beginning when it is over to get some details I might have missed.
I should really stop watching the episodes as they air. After watching ep 24 I REALLY NEED ep 25 but will have to wait until tomorrow. Should have stopped at ep23 since it ended well. Ep 24 was too good and that cliffhanger ending. >.<
P.S. - And I just found out we are only getting 1 episode tomorrow. T T
I'm confused, what are these kdramas where the fl falls first and then chases the ml for episodes while treats…
I have been watching dramas for 15-16 years so I have mostly watched dramas where the FL is the one doing the chasing. But I agree this trend has been changing. Maybe because men in the real world have been less and less proactive in chasing after women so the dramas are portraying what women expect since they are not getting it in real life.
Yeah but to me that twist will be a pain. As he’s the owner I can see him inviting himself over regularly as…
Yeah, I'm expecting that too. Hopefully they do not waste too much screen time on the whole love triangle thing. I would rather see the main leads slowly develop feelings for each other and forming their own little family. So far, the FL has been trying really hard and the ML no matter how much he tries to not form a bond with U Ju and the FL, he is starting to care about them but they are still not a real family. I want to see how things slowly change into them becoming a real family that loves and takes care of each other without interests, contracts or just out of responsibility.
