For anyone wondering about the disparity between the 95% positive comment section and MDLs rating...yes, something weird is going on, yes the database hasn't updated in a week. We don't know why. It's annoying.
Bad timing or it may just not be your thing. Happens. Personally, I love Li Landi in this...and I say it as someone…
Indeed. I know so many people who love Eternal Love of Dream (Pillowbook) and despite my best intentions (tried 3x to get past episode 5) I just couldn't deal with Dilireba's interpretation. I put it on hold and will probably attempt to watch it again sometime in the future.
Just started this and I'm already fed up with the FL's antics. She is the most irritating lead character I've…
Bad timing or it may just not be your thing. Happens. Personally, I love Li Landi in this...and I say it as someone who has a tendency to really hate the run-of-the-mill childish xianxia FL. Every character here has a very good motivation and backstory to underpin their personality. Edit: I was able to stay with AOL despite Jinmi being extremely hard to swallow at first, not because of it. And honestly, comparing Yetan to an immortal like Bai Qian is like comparing apples to oranges. It's just not that kind of drama.
Not watching the trailers for the next few episodes is so hard, I already took a peek and it's made the yearning even worse lol. I need the next couple of episodes yesterday.
AOL was one of my first exposures to this genre, but it was too long for me to willingly delve back into for a…
I remember really liking it until the midpoint and then it kinda started falling apart for me. It's also so long I don't think I could ever watch the entire thing again.
Ten Miles of Peach Blossom and Ashes of Love are my favorites in this genre. Those are like the gold standard…
Don't get me wrong! I absolutely love Ye Hua and Mark slayed that role but charismatic is just not a word I'd personally choose to describe Ye Hua...more like charming in a quiet and romantic way.
Yetan's poison-induced dreams about having a normal relationship with her dad were absolutely heartbreaking. I'm now convinced this drama has a deep underlying theme of childhood emotional neglect, specifically related to fathers. Yetan's daddy issues run extremely deep, so deep it's amazing how much they have wrecked her emotionally and define her every action. When she came back from the dream and MYQ said "you are priceless to me" (paraphrasing) ---the contrast between what we know from the treatment she got from her dad and the way Youqin cherishes her nearly brought tears to my eyes. One of the things I find so compelling about her is that unlike other Xianxia FLs who are immortals, Yetan is a mere mortal with emotional issues that are very relatable to the audience.
And talking about daddy issues, the way Youqin buries his emotions so he can fulfill his father's expectations, including burying his fear...and we then see how he splinters into three (a very cool deconstruction of the character) and how all these emotions have to be fused together again, is an amazing metaphor for a child's trauma having to be taken apart and dealt with as an adult.
And onto Chaofeng and his own daddy issues which showcase the way boys are affected by the emotional neglect of their fathers and how they mistreat their mothers, which in turn leads them to be unable to approach girls in a healthy way. They then have to unlearn all the defense mechanisms they had to develop since childhood just to get by.
This isn't just a comedy, it's a character study. The reason the comedy works so well is that it's underpinned by strong characters with a real emotional core to them.
So since 22 feb mdl rating system crashed for all ongoing dramas, did they hired some rookies or what
yeah idk what's up with them or if this has happened before but it does such a disservice to current dramas airing. People are seeing completely outdated ratings.
