I can't talk about Love is Panacea as I haven't watched that drama nor am I familiar with the plot. I don't think either lead (CXX or ZRN) is a particularly strong kisser on camera, so all things considered I was pleased with what we got. It was a step up from before, at least as far as CXX goes. I just don't think it's fair to criticize this drama for being "PG13" -- a statement I find kind of absurd, or to blame ZRN for the PG13-ness of it all. This drama in particular is very much an idol drama more geared towards very young women who want a pink, bubblegum version of romance and falling in love, a quintessential first love experience, if you will---very tropey and very old school but for a new generation. In that sense this drama struck the right tone.

He's always had a more mature look. That's the reason he's so convincing in the role.

No. I agree with achina. It's one of the things that made me respect the FL the most in both the novel and the drama. Couldn't be further from unnecessary "femi" propaganada" whatever that's supposed to mean. I assure you it doesn't apply to China lol.

She started growing on me starting on episode 7. Her acting becomes a lot more natural and relatable.

yeah sometimes it's better to leave sooner than to overstay your welcome. I know they filmed a wedding of sorts (she was only wearing a veil) but tbh I don't need that scene.

um this is normal. It's just a way for platforms to make money. That's just for people who want to pay for the express package. The actual drama finishes airing on the 31st for VIP and later on for non-members.

There's a strong trend in Cdramas towards portraying FL as more independent and less "lian ai nao" (love brain). Maybe that's what you find "weird"? With a romance where there's such a strong power imbalance like this one, it's important that Cheng Yap demonstrate she's mindful of her career and not just her romantic life. That might be a little harder to accept for some women. Personally it's one of the things I loved most about her character in the drama and the novel.

The conflict in the last few episodes is there to force Cheng Yao out of Junheng. Honestly, bloated is the last thing I'd call this. Every episode has something to enjoy...that is if you're into this kind of story.

OP has a right to her opinion but none of the things you mentioned apply to this drama in the least with perhaps the exception of the last one in the sense that some people claim the ending was a bit fast and left them wanting more but it's still a happy ending and 100% worth the watch.

I couldn't disagree more with this comment. It was a good drama, and the last six episodes do not in any way shape or form make the drama not worth watching. I feel sorry for anyone reading this comment and using it to dismiss one of the best idol dramas in recent years.

Most people in China had no complaints about the ending, or at the very least, the stuff with Liang Yiran wasn't so bad that it ruined the drama for anyone. Liang Yiran was dealt with quite quickly.

Funnily some Cnetz complained Wu Jun was too harsh on her.

No hate on AvenueX whatsoever, but to be fair, her opinion is just ONE of many. She just happens to have a platform with a semi-wide audience out west. Personally, My Boss is a much more enjoyable watch for all audiences. Our Interpreter I'd really only recommend for people who are fans of either lead...it does deliver, it just takes a long time to get there and it should have been much shorter to correct the pacing problems.

Same here...and I'm glad it's doing so well in China. Zhang Ruonan and CXX have been highly praised for their chemistry. Her acting isn't on par with his, but she does grow on you very quickly. Never been a fan of hers but unexpectedly she won me over. The director has also been widely praised for his good sense of pacing and his ability to bring out the best out of the leads.

The director explained it was his choice along with the screenwriter's for them not to kiss until well into the story. It has nothing to do with Zhang Ruonan. I don't normally reply to comments on this site because I find most of them too out of touch with China, but this one's bizarre. All cdramas are in essence "PG13". You might find more blatant kissing in cheaper, smaller productions like minidramas because no one cares about those but not in mainstream Cdramas where strong depictions of sensuality or longer and deeper kisses are mostly avoided.

I have zero hate whatsoever for these two actors but to be honest, it's only doing so so in China. It hasn't broken 25k on the heat index. It's still relatively early though. The trend might change for the better.

if it's any consolation... Viki really doesn't matter. Best to concentrate on other key performance indicators and platforms like the heat index, douban score and other charts in actual China.

yeah...to be fair, that's the case with every single platform though.

MDL's general rating is based on an algorithm that takes into account several key indicators, not only verified accounts or currently watching ratings. No one really knows how it works but it's a combination of multiple things including number of reviews, comments, every subscore, recommendations, etc.

What are some of those misconceptions? I'm curious...
