We're back to M-F for good subs https://kisskh.at/photos/d0vreA_3
absolutely. I've only been able to watch the machine translated subs because I'm used to machine translated chinese. I also understand the language enough that I can fix it in my brain + I read the novel so it's easy for me to understand what's going on. I'd recommend people stick to watching the good subs, even if the updates are painfully slow.
This drama in China is 7.2 rating, which is high, while other dramas that are not 7.2 , dramalist have them 8.5,…
Eh... I wouldn't pay too much attention to MDL...not just when it comes to this drama, but generally. Douban matters.
But just to explain a bit, the way My Boss has aired internationally has been rough to say the least and world's apart from China. Youku doesn't have the distribution rights abroad, only the production house (Linmon) does. They've been uploading one episode per day on their Youtube Channel . Viki has been very slow as well. That's if you want good subs. Kisskh has been keeping up with China but they resorted to machine translated subs before eventually replacing them with good subs but the process has been slow. The consensus in China is that the first 5 episodes aren't too strong, the insomnia plot, basically, but it really starts taking off around episode 7 so some people would have quit early on if they thought it was too cliché or awkward and totally missed out on a pretty fun, very addictive show. So basically, slow updates + bad subs probably affected the ratings on MDL.
International fans are far more likely to watch and rate costume dramas anyway, and rate things higher if the actors in question are popular idols abroad. Just a few recent examples: Rising with the Wind has an 8.0 (quite low) on MDL and a 7.3 (pretty high) on Douban. Fake it Till You Make it has an 8.4 on MDL (moderate) and an 8.1 on Douban (actually very high). Only For Love has a 7.9 rating on MDL which is low, but not even close to how atrocious the Douban score is (4.3). So there tends to be a huge discrepancy. Just look at the rating for Hidden Love (9.0) and contrast it with the rating on Douban (6.7)...and on and on.
So yeah, 7.2 on Douban is pretty good, especially for a modern day romantic idol drama like this one. The production celebrated it with a post, it's a sign of the drama's quality, it doesn't have any big issues or logical plot holes and delivers exactly what it sets to deliver.
Haters are jobless so they got a lot of free time on their hands 😂
Because they're battling each other for viewership. Tencent and iQiyi promoted this by throwing these dramas out there at the same time to duke it out.
Main difference is Douban is a far more serious site with policies and mechanisms in place to tackle the issue of water armies and fan brigades that try to inflate or deflate a drama's score. As far as I can tell, MDL is far more vulnerable to fans gaming the system and tampering with scores.
It's silly but I guess inevitable? I agree with OP's sentiment that this hurts Cdramas internationally as many people only check out dramas with scores at least 8 or above and don't bother with anything rated lower.
7.7 is a very bad rating by MDL standards but I think this battle between fans of CZY / JJY and fans of the other pairing is probably going to do huge damage to both dramas' scores.
oh boy. at the end of this both SF4 and SF6 will have low ratings on here because both sides are leaving low ratings…
I normally don't pay too much attention to any accusations of review bombing because I consider them to be malarkey, but I think you're spot on about what's happening here. No way this drama went from having an 8.0 score this morning to a 7.7 just a few hours later without bad faith actors review bombing the score. It's too blatant....and I say this as someone who isn't even a fan of Yu Shuxin or Xu Kai.
This drama is really right my kind of alley, few minutes in to the very first ep & I'm in love with it already…
Only watched ep 1 but the pacing and dialogue were great. I cracked up so hard when she asked him to watch the palace drama with her xD. CXX is 100% believable as a domineering boss. I wasn't bored for one second and yep, he looks amazing in this role.
The first ep is on Linmon's Youtube channel with English subs...only the first one though, Viki has announced 2 eps in a day's time! Hopefully it won't take too long to catch up to the Mainland *cries* https://youtu.be/vUuLP4eWw8k?si=JxpnI9jKnoKcF7SK
really?? Is there any announcement?? I am waiting so eagerly I thought they r planning our interpreter for now…
No formal announcement yet. I think that's the idea, to air it right after Our Interpreter, but that one seems to have been delayed to late January now. No one knows for sure what's going on now. It's best to wait for the official announcement for both dramas...they're probably trying to ensure they don't collide.
