From what I heard the Jin Yong Universe that Tencent doing now includes all the top tier Jin Yong novels - the Condor Trilogy, Tian Long Babu, and Smiling Proud Wanderer, but need to recheck the news. I think Tencent wants to make sure they have a masterpiece for all these top tier IP of Jin Yong. Tencent hired YouHug Media company for the filming work and for Legend of Condor Heroes itself there are 5-6 mini series with different leads/director each. One of them is Cao Dun.

Yes fight scenes took a long time and are costly. LLF did the most fighting in this drama. Guo Jingyu's production team has experience filming wuxia before.

I have watched this actor in a few dramas before such as the more noticeable HSDS 2019 and Dating in The Kitchen, but I like him in the understated Side Story of Fox Volant the most, it's his most captivating acting role so far in my opinion. Yes, it would be nice to see him in more wuxia dramas.

Must praise the cinematography, so beautiful! The movie was ok, not too great, I understand the plot because I've watched the anime many years ago but still remember the story. Some sequences and plot have been changed but it happens to almost every adaptation out there haha.

People who love the novels or are fans of earlier remakes generally have their own preconceived expectation or image of the characters, no right or wrong here just individuals preference. Thus why people who are not familiar with the novel enjoy the drama more ^^. The show might not satisfy avid fan of the novel with some of the changes to details of the drama storyline and characters(the core and rough plot remains the same) , that's why there are negativities.
The viewers who haven't read the novel or have forgotten the details might have a better viewing experience. But this niche dark wuxia theme is also not for the mass, the original book itself is darker and more fragmented than the world of HSDS or LOCH, so it is not as interesting.
Btw the douban score isn't that bad, it is the highest one in the last 5 years after LOCH 2017 for Jin Yong adaptation.
They have written the script for season 2 since the filming for season 1 ended, so it was already in plan from the beginning, but I read today they will improve the existing S2 script based on viewers feedback and oponion of S1 ^^
I like this better than Fox Volant which kind of bombed the ending.:)
It is different than Fox Volant and it is much better in storyline and writing LOL, Fox is a wuxia drama with a depressed tone from beginning to end and it has a weaker script/changed a bit from novel, Tang is a mystery suspense drama with good enjoyable rhythm throughout and the script/storyline are better with more surprise than Fox. It's more binge worthy than Fox imo.
I like this as a drama better but I have a special spot for Fox despite its flaws because it's a rare purely wuxia and some of the cast performances left deep impression.

Among those chasing Hu Fei, there is a masked fighter with a very powerful and familiar swordmanship, Hu Fei almost got killed but mysterious fighter hesitated at the last minute and add in Ruolan and Nan Lan into the mix hahaha.
