Tencent releasing all these trailers but with no release date, SIGH. I miss William. The couple looks good, but the trailer didn't give me much to go on other than it will be very dramatic. I haven't checked out any of the other Novoland, so I don't know if that's standard?
I am so glad that her true birth "reveal" wasn't actually revealed! This is such a refreshing twist from the typical "FL-is-actually-of-noble-birth" storyline, which would've derailed the whole point of this drama. Although FL is from a mysterious and probably low birth, she wins the heart of the parents/family because of her sincerity, not because she was maybe of some high birth. She changes the parents' minds because of her qualities, not because of a potential status. In the end, it didn't matter what her true birth was because she had already won the hearts of the family. I am so SO glad that the show went this route instead of suddenly turning FL into a princess or something.
For those who has finished the show, I want to ask about a goof in the writing. I'll put it in the comment with…
This is in regards to the timeline of events happening.
In the first ep, Tao Yao said to Xingchen (in the marriage carriage) that the last time Chuyue transformed was the horse. However, that should be incorrect because Xue Mu was there when she was a horse and she had accidentally broke his arm. Xue Mu was also there when Chuyue was the dragon in the temple (when the fire happened and he died). So, then, the dragon was the last time Chuyue transformed before Chuyue became the rat later at Xue Yao's house.
So, did Tao Yao lie to Xingchen because Xingchen didn't know about Xue Mu who knew about Chuyue? If Tao Yao intentionally lied, still, wouldn't Chuyue had one less transformation left?
It's not a big deal to me but was wondering if I missed something because sometimes the Eng subs weren't adequate (and ep 19 and 20 doesn't have any subs at all from the YouTube Channel.)
I adore that they actors are dating in real life. They are super cute together and their chemistry really translates on screen. I started this when it was still airing, so I ended up not keeping up with it (also it sucks that they keep cutting the audio or music--I understand, copyright issues, but like...as a company, shouldn't you have bought some rights to the music??) but I'm glad to hear that they'll get another season! It's inspired me to watch this again. :)
Wow, the hate on this drama is ridiculously high. Seriously?
The ongoing lie about the fake pregnancy is one of the most intriguing things about this show because it gets more complicated as Xiong Xiruo falls in love and is moved by the parents and family. It gets harder to tell the truth when so much is at stakes; THAT is good writing. She can't just place another lie on top of another lie like "losing" the baby that she never had in the first place. She'll need to come clean about everything--and that will get harder as she genuinely cares for Li Hongbin and the Li family. She'll wrestle with wanting to tell the truth but also not wanting to lose this actually good family she accidentally ended up with. That's the exciting part to see as the suspense continues and we anticipate how everything will be revealed. (Also, Li Hongbin is partly to blame for why Xiong Xiruo wasn't able to tell the truth, but I don't see anyone hating on his character.)
Yes, Xiong Xiruo is a bit annoying at first as she's dense and gets herself in hilarious situations, but she's also endearing as you watch on. She cares about her mother and her sisters and, you know, her own life! She doesn't want to die! Xiong Xiruo acts in her own self-interest but also grows to really consider consequences of her actions. She is still pretty funny, but becomes a more thoughtful character as the drama continues.
This show has been well directed and well acted--the funny scenes are funny without being over-the-top and the emotional scenes are cinematographically beautiful and moving. This drama, despite being perceived as a low-budget kind of drama, has transcended above that by having strong writing, good acting, and great directing. (I love LOVE the main serious song "Stealing Heart" and its instrumental rendition.)
Also, although the main couple are both tsunderes about their feelings at first, once they have accepted their feelings and confessed their feelings for another, they're very tender and sweet.
This is more than your average romcom, cutesy historical drama. It strings you along with several plot threads and builds suspense toward it while also building genuine emotional moments. The drama executes this well.
No one: Emperor: LONG FEIYE!!!!!!!!! lmao sorry, I can't stop thinking about it. Every time I come across "Long Feiye" I just say it in the emperor's tone.
What a great review! I put this on hold due to mixed reviews and it's asking for a lot of time. What I'm not clear…
Thank you for the comment! I'm glad this was helpful. They do become romantically committed for a period of time and have some really sweet moments. There is an important obstacle that they deal with, which adds some angsty parts, but ultimately, it's a happy ending. :)
Have to make do with what we have. There is no English subs anywhere, not even on the production company that…
Not gonna lie, when I read this summary, it sounds like a trainwreck, but I just want to see the angst and reunion of ming xia and qing cheng, so I'll keep watching it.
Unfortunately, I don't think there'll ever be English subs for this drama since this drama is poorly rated. It will be up to the fans of the actors to see if they want to sub their fav actor's works. One solution is to just translate the audio via a translation app (like Google Translate) or translate the subtitles. It's not the greatest and it's a lot of work, but it'll give you enough of the gist of what's going on in the drama. That's what I've had to do to keep watching.
Have to make do with what we have. There is no English subs anywhere, not even on the production company that made this show. I've searched on MGTV, etc. but nothing. If you guys want to watch it, you'll have to watch it raw, but just use google translate or something to translate the Chinese subtitles. That's basically what I'm doing at this point. Or, what's been easier for me is to watch the episodes with Portuguese subtitles. The Portuguese-to-English translations have been pretty accurate. You can find the episodes on Youtube.
I adore him in Under The Power! I like his face and think he looks like another actor, but I can't recall right now. Anyway, I enjoy seeing his character in Under The Power. He's too funny and cute lol
I understand why some people like You Tong more, especially with his abilities and capabilities, but I adore Ming Xia. Admittedly, the drama (these first 20 episodes--I haven't seen season 2) didn't write his character/story as good, but ultimately, he's a human man who's kind and genuine. For a human, that's pretty good. He loves her truly and cares so much about her no matter what.
Li Yi Tong and Gina--what a powerful combination! I adore Li Yi Tong from Demon Girl and Gina from Mengfei Comes Across. I think this will be a good drama. :)

Episode 1 (only subbed in Portuguese) can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFtWQ9Qn5kM
I just used Google's Portuguese-to-English translator.
The rest of the episodes can be found on this Youtube playlist (no Eng subs; again, you'll have to do your own translating to get the gist of it):
