So. The ML is supposed to be an antihero, I'm guessing. A TRUE ML antihero who isn't afraid to do a LOT of bad…
I'm staying for the same reasons as you & you absolutely nailed it. When you have a ML like this (so off the mark) it is VERY hard to get the audience to connect/root for their success. If you're not rooting for the ML's success in *some* regard, then what's the point, right? I still have a BIT of hope for this drama.
There is a US show (super popular) that aired several seasons, but I only watched ONE season. THIS was my reason. Every single character in that show was disgustingly despicable and would do ALL the things to further their agenda. I literally kinda hoped they ALL would just die. What's the point of watching a show like that? None of them even remotely deserved happiness and anything less than them getting what they deserved would have been gross. I don't watch dramas like that. & this is coming from a girl who is ALMOST ALWAYS TEAM DARKER ML/TEAM ANTIHERO. I LOOOOOOVE A DARK/TWISTED HERO WHO GOES ON A JOURNEY AND COMES OUT "DIFFERENT" AS A RESULT OF THAT JOURNEY AT THE END.

Same. I'll still be watching, but I'm sad that with just better writing & a real sense of how to connect an audience with the leads... this drama could have been amazing.
I am almost always here for a darker ML with a soft spot for the FL, & even half the time am on the team of antiheroes,…
So. The ML is supposed to be an antihero, I'm guessing. A TRUE ML antihero who isn't afraid to do a LOT of bad things to make "right" or get revenge on some bad guys. HOWEVER... that means (in this drama at least) that he is willing to USE, HURT, & MANIPULATE the FL to further his agenda. I *get* that he knows she can't DIE, however... him whipping her and hurting her physically (she feels PAIN, DUDE!) just to shrug it off, like "well you'll heal anyway & that's the only way I could think to get you out" EW. Not only that, but he is CONSTANTLY manipulating her, using her, putting her in danger JUST for his own benefit. These traits are NOT attractive EVEN in an ANTI-HERO ML. The ONLY way the episodes that have aired so far would work with the ML KILLING her, hurting her, using her, etc... is IF they wrote it to where he is willing to do all this because he doesn't REALIZE YET that he loves her. THEN (maybe) we could understand/connect with the ML later when he figures out his feelings and then REGRETS his past actions. This drama has left NO room for that and completely cut out the opportunity for character growth in that regard.
I also AGREE with a previous poster about the FL. Her character just does NOT shake out right in my eyes. I like her having a tough & feminine side, but she was a freaking General who was (in ep 1) a "last man standing" against thousands of soldiers. She would have been BAD ASS & WORLD-WEARY, HARD, & READY TO DO ANYTHING to make sure her reality NEVER happens. Her easy acceptance of the ML and all his shenanigans? BS. Her getting side tracked by the adorably sweet 2ML? NOPE. Sister would be on a MISSION.
Anywho... I'm still watching & I like the actors/actresses, but I feel like the writers here screwed up in a few MAJOR ways and this drama is going to suffer SO bad as a result. It's already TOUGH to understand & connect with the storyline & the leads.
I am almost always here for a darker ML with a soft spot for the FL, & even half the time am on the team of antiheroes, however.... the way this drama is playing out & how the ML is portraying his "love" for the FL is quite honestly off point and just wrong. More of my thoughts in the spoiler below on why I think this drama is missing the mark. (& I'm sad about it!)
Are we supposed to like the ML's character?? He's sneaky, arrogant, possessive, mean, etc. He sets up and hurts…
from the episode it looks like fire/burn type of wounds are not able to be healed as easily on the FL. Evidently strong sunlight hurts her a bit too? At least, that's what I gathered from the episodes so far because her body is healed by/comprised of? water.
The supernatural elememt of the drama has been removed because of censorship. That's why from 59 eps (I think),…
yes. & I read that he is not supposed to be 100% human. That's why he has supernatural abilities, but a ton of that was censored out. You do notice he can heal/not die after being stabbed through the chest & jump from literally a cliff and land on his feet with someone in his arms... so, yeah, he's a hybrid of sorts?
The boy standing behind the emperor in her bedchamber when Yanyan was deathly ill? Is it implied he is Han Derang…
I also wondered about that. Technically, she has 2 sons + her husband's concubine's son, right? So it could have been one of them OR a child between her & Han DeRang. Would be nice to have it clarified. :)
watched the last several episodes raw. don't even care to watch them subbed. In the end... just a feeling of well, nothing. The fatal flaw of this drama is that there was absolutely zero emotional connection between the viewer and ANY of the characters, plot, etc. I had SUCH high hopes 15-17 episodes in and MAN did that hope die a quick & painful death. Good thing I have a great #tragedy like "The Wolf" to watch instead. Even watching the raw episodes... I balled my eyes out & am on pins and needles each episode. Maybe I'll see some of you over on that page to chat in the comments. ;-)
