Mingyi underestimates her yet again to think she would mistreat his concubine and is surprised and ashamed by…
I don't know why but I was never truly disgusted with MingYi until this scene. UGH. His excuses are too disgustingly selfish. Probably the most self-centered character in any Chinese drama. lol -_-
even though this show is good, it's not great and definitely forgettable. I'm not sure what it is missing, but…
I will say that YY's son's (Emperor) reception to DeRang & YanYan's love & his treatment of his mother & DeRang is REFRESHING and maybe the only memorable part in the past several (44-46?) episodes. everything else... meh. Ep 44 was legit a filler episode & I can't help to think the last 2 episodes will be just as mediocre. I'm left with a final impression summed up in two words: MEH & FORGETTABLE. The magic of drawing watchers in & making them fall in love with the characters & their lives was absolutely missing in this drama.

whelp, the inevitable happened we all saw coming a mile away with 2nd sister. See spoiler.
Second sister's moral compass and loyalty had always been questionable at best. She came off as a very selfish and vain character who only really (when it came down to it) cared about what her love interest wanted. Now that by ep41/42 her husband led not only himself but their only son to their demise lusting after the throne... 2nd sister has gone full on Dark Side in plotting her revenge against YanYan. Too bad we all saw this a mile away or it would have been a good plot twist. -_-
Can someone tell me to what extent is Ming Yi a power-hungry and evil character? (Either from the novel or from…
in my personal opinion... he doesn't. He may be extremely selfish and makes decisions he has justified as right/worth it in his mind for the greater good of his country and even for his own selfish desires (yanyan), BUT... to go completely to the dark side and murder, plot, poison, etc., I don't think he will. He hasn't so far & I don't see him as "evil" at all. An asshole who disregards friendships/loyalty... maybe. Villainously evil? Not so much.
ooooh the show is amazing by ep50 and somewhat balanced... but I have a feeling things are about to get even more rough for our girl and I'm already dreading it. :O
ungh. & that my friends is how you put a final nail in a drama coffin. Besides Han Derang & his Mother... do we care at ALL about any of these other characters or how they'll end up at this point??? I had SUCH high hopes after the first few episodes, but that died slowly after each and every episode so far aired. Now seeing 39&40 raw... nope. Before ep38-40 I didn't find MingYi QUITE as despicable as other viewers.... but now? UGH. No ending is going to make me happy at this point, tbh. ●﹏●
I swear. Just watched ep 30 & she really don't give a shiz & question the king's stupid "advise" lol. She literally…
She called him "shameless" and I nearly died. She is FIERCE! lol. She stole my heart back when she decided to stay up & drink a few along with her son to drown out his heartache. LOVE.
IKR. That's also what I highlighted in my previous comment. The moment of their meeting after their temporary…
absolutely this. Her reactions and stone facedness is definitely "off" in some of these scenes where emotions/shock would have been running high. If the director wanted her to portray "I've locked all my emotions up because I have to" then I get it... but it has hurt us as viewers from relating to her, because no one wants to be on #TeamCold-Ass-B*tch ... you know?
& OMG I'm a huuuuge fan The Story of Yanxi Palace. SUCH a fabulous drama that does this trope and tons of other things justice! <3

YES. I think the transition was odd. YanYan went from "I'm here but don't expect anything else from me" to a super frigid "in the game now" & not caring how De Rang or anyone else feels... in one big swoop and it leaves a bitter taste in viewers' mouths. You can still see De Rang struggling with the new relationship/friendship parameters... but YanYan is acting like she really is over it and doesn't GAF about past feelings/love anymore. Yikes.
