this series from episode 1 is already so slow and need to fast forward, no hook from cast or story. FL does gives off the very early yang zi vibes, but that's about it.

Neo huo and Gabrielle Guan does looks good in ancient costume and settings. FL costumes so far looks great too. Chemistry is also above average for this pairing.
I have seen some comments here about Gabrielle Guan's looks and acting abilities. However but in drama series I feel that there are other important elements like ML FL X factor, pairing, ability to carry the role, director's camera, angle and beautifying technics and plot /storyline.
In such idol romance drama type, it really just needs a good ML FL pairing with chemistry and a good plot /script.

However for this series so far, the camera close ups angles are too close for my liking if that make sense. But the romance and plot hook so far is interesting in this series.

Seeing some discussions here about this drama and cut scenes etc. Such cut scenes or storylines are referring to the manga /comic version of this drama.
Obviously different but stronger cast than season 1, however the plot and hook for season 1 is much stronger. Especially from episode 1, when the students enrolled into university and get into the debate group for season 1.
That was such a strong hook, like a gathering of heroes, so you start to get attached and root for this band of misfits. Especially the enmity between the ML and FL from the start, which eventually turns into camaraderie and romance.
For season 2 The story has changed, as well as the cast, which are obviously of higher tier and caliber. However the hook is weak from the start of the episode 1, since they are already an established debate team. Their enemy is the alpha team of their debate group which was merged. Also from episode 1, the debate towards the end is just a couple of lines/ scenes , while season 1 ep1 there's strong debate focus script.
Will the cast, plot and script of season 2 carry this series remains much to be seen. Cinematography and set is also better and of higher quality. But for me the winner of episode 1 goes to season 1, when Bai yu said he will take on 1v4 *cool factor plus*
Feels like a slow burning series from episode 1 my fast forward finger is already itching to click. However from the start you will get to see janice as twins and playing 2 different characters type, which is at least interesting.
No doubt about the acting qualities from the leads even from episode 1. But I feel that the plot is too domestic, poverty which is the main plot needs to be shown to allow better understanding of the challenge. Seems to involve alot of political struggles and challenges as well from internal governance, which even makes this series goes deeper into domestic area. Cinematography is also gloomy from the start even thou its a beautiful looking village, which could have been brighter.
If there is a reason to watch this series for international viewers it is to absorb the culture, the beauty and details of this village, which is why i felt that this series could have been brighter or sharper.

Some version says she will marry AC prince and have a daughter but ends up divorcing him, when his family went broke, then left the daughter with nan sun and marry overseas. But thats very close to the novel version. So lets see how this drama will close the ending.

So its with an open mind that i just go with the flow for this series, even thou i have watched the HK movie version and read the overall synopsis of the novel. Whatever happens, happens. This series is more of a filler for me.

Maybe I recalled wrongly but as with loose adaption, they are entitled to change it however they wish. In the novel as a divorcee, she married a foreigner in the end. She also dated and was with ye jin yan, So for the drama, it can always go any type of way. Its all just fans speculations until the episode is shown.
Its also been speculated that in this drama, they will show that suosuo will eventually leave her daughter to be raised by Nansun and WYZ.
Well maybe you should watch Legend of Fei instead.
As with each drama, there will be viewers that will enjoy it. Just not my cup of tea unfortunately. Couldnt get the hook and from the early episodes, it doesnt look like an award winning drama either.
Perfect role for Bai Lu then show would have a likable character
I have only seen luo jin in royal nirvana and mabel yuan in great age. So I am neutral on this. It then depends on how its being made, if its too gloomy and slow burning, I wont bother. For luo jin, I am interested in watching the story of xing fu, the trailers did it justice for his pairing with zanilia zhao.
But in 2021, I still am waiting to watch "Falling into your smile"
I'm a huge fan of Zhang Ziyi but no lies her age can't hide. Same for Zhou Xun, she's my fave too, and her acting…
I mean its ZZY, she can act for sure, but its another wasted script if the viewers does not buy or gets attached to her role. This is like her debut drama and she tries to sell and convince the viewers that she is a teenager is just too much. Got to really be a fan just to get this hook or bait. But even as a fan, the feeling of watching your aged idol playing a teenager should also clearly bring about mixed feelings.
As for this series, its alot of of talking and alot of her screen time, so if you are not a fan and cant get the teenage princess hook, this script has already failed.
I would rather this drama just starts when she is grown and deals with the challenges of being a queen and not to start as a child into a teenager just to stipulate growth and develop viewers attachment to character, which is clearly the wrong path.
