episode 2 and 3, so the reason why FL wants to go into this cosmetics company called SW is because she wants to get her boyfriend back that works in the same building as SW. FL seems to have some sort of multi task and great memory abilities.
i mean ... i am hoping for a hook. but its hard to digest with so many annoyances.
Episode 1-3 annoyances includes: 1. FL acts like some naïve, innocent and childish character 2. Costumes ... its just boring, there's more colorful selection just sitting around and watching office ladies in Business districts 3. Series is trying to be like a xanxi palace of corporate world in this cosmetics company, but too much talking with unimportant dialogs. 4. BGM for even unimportant conversations, alot of BGM for no reason 5. Slow burn series
I think the reason it caught my attention on episode one was Neo and Chaoyue specially even if it was planned…
exactly that, isnt it very high risk to put 3 couples that never worked together and hope that it works? there are so many chinese dramas that just cast ML n FL from loads of choices (over billions of possible pairings) and only a few drama succeeded, so for this variety show to hit gold with this couple is luck and only because neo was so accommodating. without this couple, personally i wouldnt have watched it.
for the viewers its not surprising that neo and chaoyue got together in this series, there is no way that its coincidence because at the start when neo didnt acted out that blanket scene, chaoyue was in tears. also neo and chaoyue were in the same age bracket as compared to the others.
yes it is great for this show that they found 1 pairing that worked so well, but still there is a risk element to it. as much as I would like this variety to have a season 2 or be a long running series, it just wouldnt work for this sort of project.
I think the reason it caught my attention on episode one was Neo and Chaoyue specially even if it was planned…
but it was such a high risk variety show. if neo and chaoyue wasnt in this variety show and had such chemistry, it wouldnt had gotten the attention it deserves. so sometimes a proven pairing isnt a bad thing too.
if next season they bring another 6 strangers and there's no stand out pairing then the whole series worth 10 weeks fails. so maybe they should bring 3 couples that has proven drama chemistry and give it a go. for viewers, we just want to watch the chemistry, sweetness, believability and talent.
Watched Episode 1, 6 is the number of times i yawned while watching. Wu jinyan seems to be playing some kind of youngish role (since she is always cringe acting cute) that is interested and very good in sales.
agreed, aesthetically shen siyi looks the best with yao yan (even tho he was kind of creepy and overly aggressive…
BFS is just different from the novel, also the ending does not cover all the loose ends which makes it not satisfying. But BFS has some emotional trigger points, at least you will feel for the cast. Support cast is what makes BFS shine and also the 2 FLs have more believable friendship as they have gone thru so much together.
Its worth a watch but you got to ride out the early episodes when the 2 FLs behaves like teenagers, just cringe. But Nini is so sassy and sensual to watch in BFS. Also both FLs shows growth but huge character personalities changes as well, which feels strange nearing the end.
The romance makes more sense in BFS too, while dear missy couples just magically becomes together with just a few conversations, so maybe the courtship element is missing. The only fleshed out relationship is guan yue and ye zhou, which tbh i dont care about and fast forward everytime its their scenes.
Dear missy does have the sharper and better cinematography, while BFS isnt bad, its just very retro and sunset /yellowish palette.
Its not only that she is ugly and still chosen as school model but because she did not reveal the truth to her…
cyberbullying is what caused the death of suho and seojun friend se yeon.
bullying is what jukyung experienced in yongpa.
episode 12 is more of teasing, gossiping and curiosity. afterall they had all voted for jukyung in that social media contest and she was also selected as school model because of that. so they were all lied to as JK had covered the truth with make up.
when the truth is out, for dramatic effect, of course the students would gather to see how fake and dishonest she is.
every drama has its ups and downs, its never expected that this show will be a full on everyone is happy drama especially when in the early episodes JK was already bullied, then there was the suicide of suho and seojun friend, as well as the mental illness of soojin, the abusive father, the suffering of suho with guilt, the society visual judgment etc ... not sure how with all these issues that it is a happy drama.
the comedy does cover much of the serious issues in this drama, but in its depth, it has created awareness for these real life issues.
even the ending, we do not know if it will be a happy one, afterall in the webtoon, suho did went away for 3 years.
agreed, aesthetically shen siyi looks the best with yao yan (even tho he was kind of creepy and overly aggressive…
agree on most points, but if I were to compare dear missy and my best friend story, the camaraderie is stronger for my best friend story. Maybe because more drastic things happens to that pair. While for dear missy, they have fights and break ups but my best friend story doesnt.
I always felt that theres no chemistry for lu ke's partners, even zhang mang felt more like a friend. Si yi and yao yuan were always meant to be together but when siyi had to kiss that uncle, the internet in china had a comment that goes like that "being an actress is really not easy, when you got to french kiss an uncle"
If they had bother to flesh out more of si yi and yao yuan's romance like their emotional love struggles. Instead si yi and yao yuan romance is like magic, they just appear for no reason next to each other and make some small talk, thats all.
For dear missy, in the ending its just all paired up and happily ever after. So it felt like if i had watched the early episodes until maybe episode 11 and then watch the last 2 episodes, i wouldnt have missed out on much.
You can try to watch my best friend story next but the ending isnt impressive and left alot of loose ends.
too many to list if you like similar dramas of high production and great ML FL chemistry rom coms with ancient…
I was so happy to have ended the year 2020 with having watched Forever love. High level of sweetness and chemistry between ML and FL. Very shipable CP and seems that they are rumored to be real couple in real life.
The start of forever love episode 1 starts with ML and FL marriage, so yes its a happy ending.
Bullying is of course not acceptable, but what is being frown upon does not mean it does not exists in the real…
There is no excuse for what soojin did, but mental illness is a real thing.
Just for awareness and information, Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic mental health condition in which uncontrollable obsessions lead to compulsive behaviors. When this condition becomes severe, it can interfere with relationships and responsibilities and significantly reduce quality of life. It can be debilitating.
Again being aware of such illness helps us better understand the situation that soojin is in. She isnt really in the healthiest state of mind, not to romanticize, make excuse or normalize her behavior. But victims suffering from such illness are actually sick and cant recover without help.
too many to list if you like similar dramas of high production and great ML FL chemistry rom coms with ancient…
But I cant unwatch the original ending, its story is at least unique. The transformation provided a nice early hook for me.
Actually love script is also fun to watch but its not a full ancient costume drama. Their days in the palace were interesting. Too bad the chemistry is just average between ML and FL.
For best couple chemistry in a cdrama 2020, my vote goes to Forever love /百岁之好,一言为定. But its also not an ancient costume drama
Bullying is of course not acceptable, but what is being frown upon does not mean it does not exists in the real…
In soojin's defense again, mental illness and state of mind is a fragile thing. In real life, this is also a reality and a very real issue too.
So when soojin decides to expose JK, she feels and thinks that she is doing the right thing to expose the truth . This was done to drive JK away, because JK came to saebom and took suho from her. Again this is for dramatic effect, not saying soojin behavior is right but its done to drive the drama.
Even for seojun, when he likes JK, he has also done backhanded things but also his situation is very different from soojin.
1. Threatening Suho that he doesnt deserve happiness, so from the start its from a point of vengeance that he hangs around JK just because Suho likes JK. 2. Creating misunderstandings between suho and jk, that scene where he puts jk's head on his shoulder. 3. More misunderstandings with the model and cafe job. 4. Not clearing up the misunderstandings and allowing the misunderstandings to built to the point where jealousy caused friction between suho and jk. 5. Seojun clearly has no mental illness and is stronger mentally, but that is because he has a carefree life, doesnt bother about his results, no peer pressure, lots of friends around and a caring mother.
There is no meanness from just a mere discussion, like a study group for literature. That is what I feel we are doing here, which makes us appreciate the drama more and see other angles.
Its not only that she is ugly and still chosen as school model but because she did not reveal the truth to her…
Just be glad that true beauty is a kdrama instead of a cdrama, if it is a cdrama, the dramatic effect is going to be much worst and draggy.
In a way I am glad that true beauty writers choose to bring out such issues. Which provides food for thought too, so that there's more depth to this drama then just the simple rom com, no one dies and every one is paired up, happily ever after, feel good drama.
Moral of the story, be kind and considerate to others, you never know what others are going thru life.
too many to list if you like similar dramas of high production and great ML FL chemistry rom coms with ancient…
Nah dont worry im not insulted, im just merely adding to the discussion.
Thats what a comment thread is for isnt it? :)
I watched sleepless princess, but the original ending had him carrying her and walked off the cliff, man that ending triggered me.
I had also wanted more of the pets transformation because it is so cute and also after 365 stories and she just laid there with him walking off the cliff was such a .... WTH moment for me, like i just wasted my time chasing that drama till the end. Of cos the alternative ending was better but the hurt was done for me. :D
I may sound like a jerk but it needs to be said.BULLYING IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.I know alot of people feel sad for…
Bullying is of course not acceptable, but what is being frown upon does not mean it does not exists in the real world, it exists.
Now for the drama world of true beauty, lets put on Soojin's shoes and mindset.
Soojin for me was a righteous character from the start, from fighting against bullying and perverts. We have all seen how cool she is.
Now to this version of Soojin, lets get into her shoes and mindset.
1. She clearly have mental issues at this point and have no one to turn to. 2. She have a father that hits her because of results, coming in 2nd is not good enough. 3. She has been beside Suho for 10 years, their families eat together, she is also the only other girl Suho even "touched" or " hugged". 4. She witness Suho and JK's kisses and embraces. This caused her hurt, anger and maybe confusion. 5. She told JK that she likes Suho. Friendship goes both ways, like when Suho tells seojun he likes JK, seojun also did try to challenge this. She is also entitled to like Suho. 6. Everyone is telling her Suho and JK are together, from JK herself, suho and even seojun. This clearly triggers her and rubs her the wrong way. 7. JK was transferred to saebom for less than a year, maybe less than 6 months and everyone in school is saying how she is beautiful, even suho and seojun likes her etc, while soojin knows the truth. 8. Exposing JK in soojin's current state of mind is also justified or righteous, because JK is indeed hiding the truth. 9. She has made her choice to betray a less than 6 months friendship in hopes of changing a 10 years friendship into a relationship. 10. That confrontation with suho was her desperate attempt, a last throw of the dice, all or nothing. That's her choice, her way of dealing with her feelings.
Soojin character arc change is obviously for dramatic effect, the betrayal of a close friend, which is another experience that JK never had. If this gets resolved, it shows growth for JK, just like how JK had never experienced love and ended up with Suho.
Its drama, if it triggers you and brings about emotional outburst then Park Yoo Na has done a good job as soojin. Of course it is easy to say soojin shouldn't have done that etc but then where's the drama?
Its not only that she is ugly and still chosen as school model but because she did not reveal the truth to her…
In the drama world of true beauty, ugliness = may get bullied, teased, looked down upon. That is why jukyung needs to cover up her face.
She was wearing makeup to cover up her 'ugliness' in this drama. So without make up = ugly. Its not just bad skin. Of cos in the drama we see it simply as bad skin, after all its impossible to change jukyung's features every time she puts on make up.
Even Han Go Woon (seojun sister) got scenes of being bullied after being selected as lead singer. But that new transfer student from yongpa never yet had any scenes of bullying in saebom.
I feel that the reason why the school kids did what they did because they had voted for Jukyung as well in that social media competition. Jukyung was also selected as class model with posters of her everywhere.
When the news broke about her true face, its natural that the school kids will discuss about this new discovery, each with their own agenda. They are high school kids, they found a secret, they are curious, they want to see and talk about it, this is all natural.
Another thing that alot of viewers might be missing is the timeline. Jukyung was a transfer student, she was barely there for a year, seems like 6 months or less. All this time she did not choose to tell her school mates the truth, this is being 'lied' to, or they will think that she is 'fake' and dishonest.
Are those right actions (bullying, judgmental, teasing, gossip etc) in the real world? Of cos not, as its frown upon, but it does exists. Had no one in the real life visually judge anyone before? We all had at some point in life been visually judgmental, else why we are attracted or can differentiate things of beauty? But do we take such drastic actions like the drama? Its a drama for a reason, dramatic effect.
too many to list if you like similar dramas of high production and great ML FL chemistry rom coms with ancient…
Just throwing out some ancient costumes dramas which i remembered having a good time watching it.
As with recommendations, eveyone has their own preferences. Etc i did not have a good time watching romance of tiger n rose, love better than immortality and fake princess, mostly because of cast.
Maybe gmp and the legends shouldnt be there if comedy is really the focus. But would be a waste to miss it. Likewise i would have thrown sleepless princess in there as well if it werent for the very bad ending.
Just adding options to ones watch list. Recommendations are free. ;)
All this time i thought this drama was never deep. This drama is just a rom com to feel entertained by. But i…
The comedy does cover alot of this series depth.
But if you look at the issues these characters face and how they manage them, its real life issues.
From cyberbullying, society visual judgment, family, school result oriented focus, bullying, friendships, mental health, peer pressures, social media etc it tackle, deals and creates awareness with alot of that.
Yes there are sweet and funny moments, but theres also reality.
