I watched the whole thing and it was good, but kind of dull and had nothing to say. I started reading the manwha afterwards and I wish they had told that story instead, because it's extremely funny. Both characters are outrageous narcissists which was really original and interesting.

I'm not sure what the point of Siwon's self-consciousness was since it didn't really figure into his character arc and they never really explored it - it was there an affected the story, but it wasn't resolved or overcome. That's OK, but it felt a little tacked-on sometimes. For example, he's really self-conscious with self-esteem issues, but the first time we see him he's admiring his body and seems to really be happy with it - it's tonally dissonant.

In the manwha Daun really is always grabbing the spotlight, so Daun's hostility is both motivated and really funny. Because they de-empasized the narcissism and totally stripped the story of comedy, Siwon is kind of a dick - until suddenly he's not.

I agree that the first part of the first episode works too hard to get us through the exposition. All that voiceover…
Oh, I wouldn't turn him down for a date, for sure. He could have no head at all and I'd make do with his body. Note I said "for a Korean series". He's described over and over as a hunk, and I think he's kind of normal for a Korean TV character - not normal for a human being. For me, "hunk" means Park Seo Ham or Jang Eui Soo. We're operating to a higher standard here.

its a masterpiece
That's a pretty hard label to live up to! But opinion seems fairly positive so I'll continue on.

I personally feel like the first two episodes are a pretty good representation of the overall direction and mood…
I actually like slow pacing - it was more the dullness of the plot and lack of any emoting from the characters that was off-putting, and even then it wasn't bad - but if it's like that for all 11 episodes it probably won't work for me. But I'll continue watching for a bit and see if I start to connect with it.

The main character is supposed to be insecure, but I got none of that from the actor -all we seemed to get to indicate that is showing us he was fat as a child. It worked, but I need to see the adult actor show us to really believe it. Even the scene where he was working out, he seemed to really like his body (who wouldn't?) so from my persective nothing at all is happening except he dislikes the tall guy for no reason. This feels like a series you need to have read the original to really appreciate, but in any case I'm going to soldier on and hope it wins me over.

I am sorry you are not enjoying it so far. I found the acting to be natural and the Siwoon in the beginning acts…
The only reason I know that is because he said so - otherwise he seems like a fairly typical guy. I did get a little more from the drunk scene, which as I said was well-written and acted.

Either would be fine, but for 2) they need to be dressed a little more reasonably - I'd settle for a t-shirt. The way this has been directed, it seems clear they have not done anything, which is fine as they just moved in and have previously been more or less brothers. I just want their relationship to develop because the plot is very thin and there's really nothing else for the boys to do - unless they build up the mother thing more than in the original.

Does this get more interesting? I'm struggling through Ep 2 - if it's all like this I'm giving up. It doen't feel Korean - it feels Thai with the stiff acting and lack of emotion. I can't tell what this is about. There's an average-looking (for a Korean series) guy with a bad personality and a drinking problem who everyone keeps saying is a hunk, who doesn't like a tall guy with a deep voice for no apparent reason. Maybe it's the voice. Chihuahuas don't like deep male voices either.

I will say that was one of the better drunk scenes I've seen - realistic and funny without being OTT. I'm hoping they won't ruin it with that lame magical memory erasure thing.

I'm so glad more people are finally giving Cherry Blossoms a chance. I kept telling people that it was a quiet,…
I sort of agree with this, but not entirely. I think it did focus too much on the bullying, which was unpleasant to watch - in the manwha it was there, but not as upsetting.

I think Kang Hui dosn't have enough star power to play Taesung, who in the manwha is a serious hunk - I think I might actually have been physically attracted to a cartoon. In the series, all the girls want Taesung when Haebom is so much more appealing. I don't think the actors have any chemistry - I just don't see it or feel anything. The just feel like friends to me - there's zero heat, which there should be after 13 years of repressed longing from both of them.

The other problem is the story itself. The manwha is really good until they get together, and then nothing else happens. They just go about very normal day-to-day life and there's no drama or plot.

The comparion with Semantic Error is natural and inevitable. Both feature a shy guy and a fantasy hunk - but while Kang Hui is a pleasant-looking guy, Park Seo Ham is f#$%ing hot a f#@$.

So for me, it's better than I thought it would be after the first ep, it still just average - worth watching but forgetable. There's a curve - my interest increased for the first few eps, leveled off, and now is dropping. That they sleep in outfits that make them look like they're heading on an Antarctic expedition and have no apparent physical desire for each other leaves nowhere for their relationship to develop.

I think the Manwha had a similar problem - the story was interesting until they got together, then it was just them doing boring day-to-day things.

It's also a little strange that two 20-year olds sleep together in a small bed wearing enough to survive in Siberia in the winter and never "doin' stuff".

This ep felt a little like a setup for next ep, where we'll have a proper reunion. But it was still pleasant to watch - I love Oak and Mon, so any chance I get to see then onscreen is a blessing!

I don't know about this - it doesn't make a lot of sense. So reapers are invisible unless they're wearing Hawaiian shirts? An what exactly do they do? They don't actually take anyone anywhere. But that I can live with, I suppose. But other things...

When Tua saw Prakan naked, why did he grab him by the waist and push them both down on the floor? Are they willing to be that clumsy in the writing just to get an accidental kiss, which is the worst thing in BL?

But the main problem is that Prakan is awful. His character is a hypocrite and the actor only has one facial expression - I really wish they had given Yacht that role. I really like Karn a lot, but I'm not sure he's enough to keep me interested.

The show is trash but you're making me want to read the manga
I enjoyed it - there's an anime which is basically the same. Anda is so useless that it's funny, but everyone still wants him because he's so cute they can't help themselves (cute in the Japanese sense).
On What Zabb Man! Mar 30, 2022
I have mixed feelings about this. One the one hand, I love Peter (especially how he looks while tied naked and sweaty to a chair) and I thought he and Boss had potential in Hidden Love, and it might be nice to see Bank and Bonus in something other than Gen Y...

On the other hand, this is Star Hunter Entertainment, which brought us the Gen Y series. But at least it's not the same director - it's the guy who did Love Mechanics.

I was trying so hard to finish this. But after being stuck on ep. 10 like for ever, I'm giving up. Pretty sure…
There is absolutely nothing to miss in the last two eps. Well, they do visit Pha's grave which is one of the most unintentionally funny moments in BL history, but other than that, nothing.
On Country Boy 2 Mar 30, 2022
The first ep set up a hopefully happy reunion in the second ep. Oak really inhabits his character - it's hard not to love Keptawan. I liked how they poked fun at product placement by having the drink placed so the brand wasn't visible, and all that was "placed" was a water bottle with the production company's name on it - that made me laugh.

Keptawan means "gather the sun" and Nubdao means "count the stars", which features into the lyrics of the theme song.
On DNA Says Love You Mar 29, 2022
Everything that was unique and interesting about this series evaporated for me this episode.

Added to list of things an uke can't do without a seme: breathe. It's a good thing there wasn't anything sharp in there or he would have bled out, although I'm sure they could find a q-tip or moist towel to save his life.

From the almost sole focus of the episode being, sigh, a girl's jealousy, to the usual external event pushing the boys too close physically (because heaven forbid two boys just be attracted to each other - too perverted, I guess), to the clumsy product placement, this was not just totally conventional but in the most boring and lazy way. A real disappointment.

That's more balanced than most people have been, but I think you're a little hard on the team. These are teenagers…
I couldn't get through the first ep of CLW - Mix was so horrible that I don't want him with Earth and there was nothing about the series that counterbalanced that issue, except for general Earth hotness, which isn't enough - I never really loved that coupling, TBH - Mix is fine, but he's badly ourshone in acting ability by Earth and it doesn't work too well for me.

I'm OK with light romcom BLs that are set in a magical world where all boys pursue other boys, like in Brothers, although for more serious dramas I like the coming-of-age. What I can't stand is the BLs where one of the pair, invariably the "top", identifies as straight but falls in love with a boy - the only boy he's ever loved and the only one he ever will, the moral of the story being if you obsessively pursue a straight boy long and hard enough you'll win him - instead of being beaten to death live would happen in real life. "Love knows no gender" means that everyone's love is valid, no matter what gender they love. It doesn't mean that an individual's love is agnostic with regard to gender, which is nonsense. For at least 95% of us, only one gender works. It doesn't matter how spectacular, wonderful, perfectly compatible, etc. a woman is for me, it's never going to happen - not a choice, just who I am.

Wow, you really think you own depression or something. Rude is rude. Being depressed doesn't make you some sort of cripple that no longer fits into society so that people don't need to treat you with respect and courtesy. Depression doesn't make me obnoxious and sanctimonious like it obviously does to you, but then we're all different. Thank God.

You need to be treated for narcissism, not depression, since you seem to think that everyone that suffers from depression is you. Not all depressed people are "overthinkers". What a bizarre assertion.

I don't think it's super common, and I'm not sure how to even watch out for it - that's what's great about this site - you find out things like that here.
