The only thing I'd change is how long the scenes feel drawn out. I think Mean is like a novelist writing their…
I should have read down first before posting because I've duplicated what you said.
I agree, but don't think it's endearing. It probably means he thinks he knows best and didn't listen to advice from the people who must have been telling him to cut it down.
That was one flashback montage short of making me commit seppuku.
Was the adapted from a play? It feels like it - a bit too much dialog. Or rather, it's spoken really, really slowly, with long pauses between each phrase. I was having real trouble staying awake during the scene where they were talking in bed. The payoff was good, but we could have got there in one-third the time.
I think there's a classic mistake being made, which is to fall in love with the material and lose the perspective you need to cut out what shouldn't be there. Some people like the so-called "director's cuts" (usually not a director's cut but the existing one with deleted scenes thrown back in), but the scenes that were cut out were cut for a reason, and it's because the film is better without them. Did Phob need to stare at the gate for 37 hours? No. It was the underscore his nervousness about what Nut's reaction will be, but we've been feeling that strongly from the minute the second we saw him returned.
And how many flashback montages can you stuff into one episode? And they're all the same.
Overall this is good, but the way-too-long scenes are robbing this of a lot of its dramatic energy. I hope the entire series isn't like this because it has so many good elements - the acting, cinematography, and the basic storyline are all really good.
Yeah its another school drama we are so fed up of. No it's not, was what I was thinking at the beginning of episode…
I'm not at all bothered by this being a school drama, because it doesn't follow the same tired formula. I would, howeve, prefer that it be condensed by about 30%. I really drags, even though the acting & cinematography are really good.
I really like that last part. What bothers me the most about the "evil female" in BLs is not that she's excessively…
I think it's also related to the consent issue. There's an attitude that you're not really gay unless you're a bottom, and so a man can't seek or enjoy bottoming, so he has to be forced. It's similar to how women are often forced in straight dramas - women shouldn't seek and enjoy sex or they're whores.
It's amazing that raping someone can be seen as less bad than bottoming or being a willing woman.
Oh sorry - I didn't correct the number of eps - I've watched all 10 that have subtitles. I did mention that in…
Yes, 8-10 are available from ThaiBLFan92's patreon, but you have to subscribe. You could wait until he's done and subscribe for one month and watch it all.
I review every BL I watch (well, I try to). If I think it's bad, it gets a bad review. If it's good, it gets a good review. I don't think a BL has an inherent right to only have positive things said about it. Not liking one BL isn't a crime against all BL.
IG is terrible. His rythm is bad and his intonation is way off. It's not the actor's fault - not everyone can sing, and there's nothing wrong with that. But it's ridiculous that he was put in that position. Most movies about musicians have an actual musician that's dubbed over the actors - why not do that here?
If you like this show, then write a review explaining what you think is good about it. This is a discussion forum - the point of it is for us to type what we think.
People shitting on Da On in the comments are really clueless. Yes, his behavior was hurtful towards Taekyung but…
If you haven't been through it, it's hard to understand - I think you and many others have insight into it, but a lot of people clearly don't. It's not just a matter of figuring out who you are. If you live in a repressive society, courage isn't enough - if you have to decide between hiding and survival, isn't hiding the better choice?
You've probably heard the expression "Men fear women will ridicule them. Women fear men will kill them." Well, gay kids have to fear both. Women can easily understand homophobia because it's very similar to misogyny. And while misogyny is a source of violence against women, you aren't generally beaten for being a woman, whereas the level of bullying and violence LGBTQ+ youth risk and endure is endemic, even in more tolerant cultures.
I'm what one might call a "mature adult" (i.e. old), but there are still daily consequences. I had to leave a Korean company because of the homophobia of the culture - they can tolerate gay men to an extent, but never in leadership positions (and while that hasn't happened at an American company for a while, I've certainly lost jobs for being gay in the past). I don't think even I can imagine the horror of being a gay kid attending a Korean high school, which is brutal enough even for straight boys.
As for these horrible female characters, I could not have survived without women protecting me - it almost hurts to see how spiteful and evil female characters are in BL when women are often all that stands between gay men and death, literally.
I really like that last part. What bothers me the most about the "evil female" in BLs is not that she's excessively…
There's something to this - maybe it's worth looking into. Is there a female equivalent of internalized homophobia in BL writers? Internalized misogyny? Is that why they write romances that don't include a woman, and have such loathesome female characters?
What's interesting is there is very little attempt to adapt a typical romance to fit two men, i.e. one is essentially just a traditional romance woman (the uke) with a boy in the role, and the other is the man (the seme). You almost never see equality between them - they stick to a very 19th c dynamic, which is regressive and sexist enough when it's a m/f romance, and downright odd when it's two men.
I really like that last part. What bothers me the most about the "evil female" in BLs is not that she's excessively…
It's just anecdotal, but I've never once had an evil female meddling in a romantic relationship. I've had females meddling on my behalf to encourage a romantic relationship, many times, and I think most people have. I've never even met anyone who has had an evil female meddle with their relationship.
If she's responsible for the photo (and we all know she is), then redemption is not possible for her. In which case I want serious consequences and not a "sorry" "it's ok," which we always seem to see, no matter how horrible the person has been.
Today's episode clearly showed me the difference between Da-on and Shin-woo, Da-on took off the bracelet Taekyung…
Are you sure? Shin Woo was horrible to TK because he liked him but to drive him away because he didn't want anyone to think he was gay. I think when it comes to the crisis point, he will handle it differently than Da on, but so far he hasn't - he really hasn't been much differerent than Da On - except Da On needs to please everyone and Shin Woo is the opposite extreme.
Wow I feel so disappointed from this comment, you talked so much shit about it for no reason ,you barley give…
Oh sorry - I didn't correct the number of eps - I've watched all 10 that have subtitles. I did mention that in the bottom part of the review, but I'll fix it.
But in any case, this is a review. If something is bad, it gets a bad review. I gave specific reasons for my dislike, and that is perfectly legitimate. Do you think a work has an inherent right to be praised? And if people are looking for opinions of other people to determine if they want to watch something, do they want honest opinions, or only inflated ones? A lot of people have wasted their time watching shows because the reviews were so stellar.
I can turn around your statement - if you get so upset at reviews that you launch a personal attack on someone, maybe you should really give up reading BL reviews. Attacking a story is not the same as attacking an actual person, which is much worse, but I imagine that's lost on you.
That was pretty bad. Nothing made any sense. Zhao Gang's reasons for the phone being off were nonsensical - #2 Someone doesn't want him to be disturbed. Why would that even occur to anyone? And is that more likely than a problem with the network? And why would he have all the places Shi Lei might be typed up and ready to send? How did Y Zhen not smell a rat?
They inserted the creepy ex too late into the drama (whose role turned out to make absolutely no sense at all) and then in this rushed finale, did they really have enough time to load it with flashbacks to insipid ballads?
And I love Hao Ting from MODC, but what a ridiculous thing to say to a random stranger! Come on!
And the lack of communication between the guys is beyond absurd. The two had virtually nothing to do with each other for the last four episodes, so there was no buildup to the finale.
The only thing that made sense was Yu Zhen's reason for falling for Shi Lei, which was entirely correct, as that would happen to literally everyone in that situation.
Also, Hank Wang took his shirt off, so I'm good. I never said I wasn't shallow.
his face says 16 but his body is 23 and it is so confusing to me. most times im like my son then other times i'm…
Same! I was thinking of him as a cute boy until the tank top, when my thoughts took a turn in a very different direction. He's 22, so it's allowed. Anyway, he definitely has "it".
I agree, but don't think it's endearing. It probably means he thinks he knows best and didn't listen to advice from the people who must have been telling him to cut it down.
