If you're going to compare two scenes then you should at least look at the scenario behind those scenes. In case…
Of couse the context matters, but the acting ability and chemistry of the pair matters as much. Also, I didn't read the scene like you did. Men feel each others' chests too - I thought he was just super-turned on, had his hands all over the place, then "reached completion" and then gay-panicked out of there. He made sure to angle his body when he got up and left so that his nether regions were not exposed. He's never fooled around with a girl or felt a chest, so I don't see why this would be an issue - and if it was, then that's the first bit of writing that I find disappointing because it's unauthentic. I did date girls and feel their chests, and I was very happy for there not to be breasts on the first guy I fooled around with, no matter how terrifying the situation was.
Lol, did they make the scene? They were ordered to. So, u should blame the director and not actors since they…
I totally agree. This scene was the hottest thing I've ever seen in a BL, but the TharnType shower scene looked like everyone was just phoning it in. It didn't help that it was an almost laughable ripoff of the car scene in Titanic. Oh is an evil little shit - the last half of this ep was one long and very calulated seduction. That boy new exactly what he was doing and what buttons to push.
I don't think any Filipino BL can match this one. For me, this series deserves an Emmy.
Are you talking about Gaya Sa Pelikula? The production is extremely high-quality - not amateur in the slightest, and I wonder if you're picking up the layers. It is not at all a conventional narrative. First of all, much of it is told in movie quotes, and a huge amount of the meaning is portrayed in visual metaphors. Even the first line "Do yo u ever feel you're not the protagonist in your own story?" is told to a black screen so that you can see your own reflection - and reflect on that comment as it relates to you. Or the multiple and shifting layers of meaning to the childhood photo in the closet, or when Karl let's go in Ep 6.
ITSAY is by far the best executed Thai BL ever, and unless they destroy it in the last two episodes is in my top 3 BLs of all time, but it's a fairly conventional BL story - enemies to lovers, GF in the way, etc. But way, way better written and acted. But I have to say, it's the only Thai BL of this quality level (Dark Blue Kiss had very high production values, but terrible writing), and I'm hoping it's the first of many. There's no doubt the Thai production industry can put out first-rate material - but they have to abandon the tired formula and overly-chaste and overly-straight-acting storylines written by fanfic authors, and stop hiring amateur actors.
The physical scene in the last ep of ITSAY was fairly mild in terms of sexual content but was one of the hottest things I've ever seen in a BL, and it wasn't fan-service or unnecessary - it was perfectly woven into the story and totally authentic. The characters are fully realized and complex., not the typical 2D BL cartoons, like "the boy who's lost his smile".
It seems to me that ITSAY must have more LGBTQ+ people involved in the production because it has a gay perspective we don't often get in Thai BL, but is one of the strengths of Filipino BL. I really hope ITSAY does really well and people start emulating it rather than giving us 100 variations on SOTUS.
Sandee can see the future, so it could be a vision.
Way at the beginning - but I don't think it was well-enough set up to use as a major plot device. If they go that route they'll need to put it in the "previously" scenes at the beginning of the episode.
its not creepy, he has always hated the smell of coconut, but finds it intoxicating when it is on Aeh's hair or…
It's things like this that separate this show from so many BLs, which are simplistic stories (emotionally & thematically - many are unnecessarily convoluted in plot) that are too rooted in bad novels and don't exploit the visual medium. In fact, some of them require you to have read the novels for anything to make sense because they don't show you anything, they only tell.
This forum is utterly merciless with any character that displays the slightest touch, no matter how temporary,…
They were calling Teh toxic ?!?!? A lot of people really like that word and I don't think they know what it means. And while I appreciate that they support LGBTQ+ equality, I'm repulsed by the intolerance for how incredibly difficult it is to come to terms with your sexuality, and how the intense fear you feel can push you into decisions that you regret.
Too much of the BL audience wants nothing more than cute boys being cute to each other - that's fetishization of gay men, and it's not much better than than the exploitation of women in the mainstream "straight" media. I don't think they see it that way because they're too busy being sanctimonious.
Sorry for the rant - I'm starting to get annoyed with the simplistic black & white take on the world - and people - that so many people have the luxury of taking. I wonder how many of them are perfect little angels that have never done anything selfish or out of fear of what other people think. Or even misguided love.
i'm on episode 2 of Gaya sa Pelikula and it's going well but other than that i don't think any other Filipino…
GSP is the only one airing right now that I can think of. I'd actually give it a slight edge over this as I think the writing is more directed. My Extraordinary is also top-tier but it might be too dark for a lot of people. I've noticed in the comments section that a lot of people don't understand it or its message (homophobia destroys lives).
Hello Stranger was close to the top, not quite as perfect as this or GSP (excellent writing & production, one of the leads is a good actor but a little uneven, the other is first-rate) but also a layered story. Everyone loved Gameboys, but it didn't do much for me.
This is the first Thai BL I've ever seen that's a match for the upper tier of Filipino BL. I don't even have time to list everything that's spectacular about it, so I'll just catalog everything I don't like about it:
I think that's the complete list.
And BTW, even though it was very mild, that scene at the end of Ep 3 was the hottest thing I've ever seen. And I loved Oh's subtle and sustained secution of Teh throughout the episode. That evil little sh#$ knew exactly what he was doing every second of the way.
@tufan (sorry I don't know how to tag you in a comment)Hi. You are totally right about that. It's not only in…
I didn't notice the red & blue thing, but I certainly noticed the light & shadow in the scene you mentioned when they were resting. I'll have to go back and rewatch everything & pay closer attention to the visual metaphors.
This is why original screenplays are written for series by writers who have the ability to take advantage of a visual medium are always better than series adapted from bad novels. The cinematography is stunning and there are so many layers that you could watch it several times and pick up new things.
It also pays to hire superlative actors - the cast is so far beyond anything we've seen in a Thai BL thusfar in ability - it makes all the difference.
I really hope other production companies watch this and learn from it.
I just know after ep 4 this comment section will be filled with hate towards Teh but while i feel like i will…
This forum is utterly merciless with any character that displays the slightest touch, no matter how temporary, of homophobia and never forgives him/her and thinks he/she is worse than Hitler. So I think your prediction is likely to come to pass.
Gay rights were achieved by convincing people that we're just people like them, and there's no need to fear us - it was done through positive action and understanding, and educating people who didn't know better.
If this generation were in charge, it wouldn't have happened because instead of winning over hearts, they'd do everything they can to rip them, still beating, out of their chests. It's not constructive, and frankly, I don't want that kind of support.
I was Teh when I was that age. I must have hurt people with my inability to accept myself, and missed so many opportunities for love. It's so hard to come to terms with yourself, and it's disheartening to see the total, brutal lack of any sympathy whatsover for characters struggling with this.
Don't you think "toxic" is incredibly harsh? She's lost her son! I hope you never have to face something that…
Well, she has suffered the most. She lost a son, and knows she's partly to blame. Grief is always about yourself - I don't know why Monica gets no pass. This is a truly devastating loss - it will take her years to get past this, not 6 weeks. Just because she didn't react well to the revelation doesn't mean she's a bad person. Many, many parents have negative reactions at first - in a perfect world that wouldn't be the case, but this is not a perfect world, inhabited by people who are not perfect.
Holy f#$%! What did I just watch? A Thai BL where the actors are... really, really good? Even the child actors were better than all the actors in all the other BLs. And it was well-written. And written for a visual medium. How did this happen? I even like that the leads are cute but not ridiculously beautiful - it adds realism.
This is what happens when you cast talented actors and hire someone who knows how to write a script.
My mind is blown. If I didn't have to get up really early I'd watch the rest of it right now. Jesus Christ that was good.
