Yuan Jin Xia is captured and tortured by Yan Shi Fan. To save Jin Xia, Lu Yi kneels and begs Yan Shi Fan to get Jin Xia back. Though still loving each other deeply, they are tormented by the separation. Lu Yi's father dies but passes on some critical information to Lu Yi and Jin Xia. They all just feel so helpless as how to bring down the evil who covers the sky.

My take is, Fan Xian is a very devoted person. I don't think he would leave Wan-er and fall for a new flame. If he does, he would be despised, especially by the Chinese viewers. Devotion is a must-have trait in most Chinese heroes.
No, you won't be prepared for this. Your other dramas can't even match a 10th of this in terms of tragedies. However, fear not, because you've trained yourself well. Happy watching!

Hahaha! Look at it this way. Without that old man, it can't bring out how 'young' and 'good' Yuan Song is. With the old man looming about, we all root for Yuan Song and wishing him (Yuan Song) kick his (old man's) ass, which I believe he will eventually.

Yuan Song is just adorable here. Obviously a lot more mature in his emotion than Fan Xing despite being 10 years younger than her. He knows exactly what he wants and is committed to it. Fan Xing is very naive and easily fooled by Ye Lu Ming. Thinking there is such thing as a platonic friendship when the other person is trying to win her heart, she's being played into his hand. Yes, there will be a lot of heart breaking along the way, but I have a feeling that Fan Xing will not barge and fall for Ye Lu Ming because she does love Yuan Song a lot. And for Yuan Song, he's determined and he has the means (he's loaded with a super wealthy family but he doesn't want to be seen as a "Fu Er Dai", if you know what I mean).
It's so nice to have someone who always comes and cleans up after you make a blunder; Lu Yi always has Jin Xia covered. He's always so calm and strategic. What a wonderful character!
