Right, for me, the score is immaterial anymore. What matters is this drama touches me deeply, as if it has cast a magic spell on me. In fact, it is funny that this magic spell works on some and not on others. Therefore, it is futile trying to convince someone who does not see eye-to-eye with us. So be it, whatever.
Even with his cold face and seemingly annoyance displaying, Lan Zhan seems to seek out Wei Ying all the time, even from the beginning. This is done so subtly. When Wei Ying smuggles the liquor back to Cloud Recess, Lan Zhan is already waiting for him there. It seems everywhere Wei Ying goes, all the mischief he is causing, Lan Zhan is there watching, most of the time covertly. They spend a lot of time in the library alone when Wei Ying is under punishment. It seems Lan Zhan enjoys just keeping Wei Ying by his side where he can see him. Lan Zhan always watches Wei Ying's back scene when he leaves, giving me the feeling of longing; Lan Zhan longs for Wei Ying.
To be honest, I didn't catch all these to be romances in my first viewing. That's why I commented that they were only of soulmate relationship. After multiple viewing, then I feel the underlying emotions. Wei Ying likes Lan Zhan but he knows it's impossible given Lan Zhan's background. So he always pretends and switches the topics. Whereas for Lan Zhan, he loves Wei Ying but he has to suppress his feelings in the beginning. So, yes, these two are meant for each other and it's beautiful.
This is just ok, but not darn good. I did not read the novel, anime etc. so I am watching this as someone who's…
Despite being an avid fan of this drama, I have to agree with what you're saying. In my first viewing, especially at the first few episodes, I did find the production amateurish. But somehow, by the end of the drama, I found myself touched. So much so that I'm inseparable with it. I went back to re-watch it, again and again. I read the novel, watched the anime. The more I watch, the more I'm addicted. It's like someone starts off with the cannabis and ends up with the heroin.
I realized I have a different standard in judging this drama. I don't apply the strict rules of good drama/movie to this drama anymore, because it has something that touches me that I don't find in other dramas/movies.
I keep thinking, why, like so many others, I still love this drama and not bored with it after umpteenth time of re-watching. I can even recite many of the lines! Among many, I believe it is because of the way Wei Ying and Lan Zhan convey their emotions, even without words; everything is written on their faces and in their eyes. Honestly, I haven’t come across any dramas that use this way of communication so effectively, over and over again. In this drama, it is done from the beginning till the end. Something, seemingly simple, yet powerful. Perhaps, for future dramas, directors and producers have to learn from The Untamed in order to produce publicly loved dramas like this. Big budgets, well-known actors, fancy clothing and settings become secondary.
The first time I watched the drama I was all about wei wu xian, missed a lot of good moments of other characters. Then…
Totally true. There are just too many details one cannot pick up in the first viewing. For me, I found Wen Ning's character super cute at the second viewing, especially many of his expressions I overlooked. Yu Bin really does a wonderful job in acting Wen Ning's character. In the last few episodes when he spends more time with Wei Ying, Wen Ning is absolutely adorable.
These are really very very good. Thank you so much!
Absolutely not (go wasted)! They are very much appreciated. These videos will become my daily elixir doses, keeping me sane and happy. Again, thank you so much.
So I went to watch some more fan made mv, and I just re-realized why I love this drama (novel/story as a whole)…
I went back to the scene where Wei Ying kills himself in front of Lan Zhan. I still cried. My heart aches like hell. I know, no matter how many times I'm going to re-watch those scenes, they will still create ripples in my heart.
The thought of Lan Zhan searching for Wei Ying for the last 13 years (was it 13?) breaks my heart. Many people these days simply forget about their other halves once they die, faster than they say, "I hate you". It is so satisfying to see once found, Lan Zhan wouldn't let Wei Ying out of his sight anymore; he is standing by him through and through no matter how others look at him. Finally he lives for himself, not for his sect rules.

You speak my heart.
Don't worry, as far as I'm concerned, you're normal. I simply love this feeling of obsessing with something and wanting more of it. It makes me feel that no matter how things may go wrong in my life, I can simply shrug them off because I have something else I want to hang on to. Unpleasant things become unimportant anymore.
Wei WuXian also topped my list of my best characters in any fiction/any media/anything pretty early on as I was…
I second you on that with all my limbs and whatever sticking out (XD). My top male actor list was like yours except no Nicky Wu. Now Xiao Zhan shatters that list into bits.
Yeah, I'm so happy too with the way Live Action tried to convey the relationship between Wei Ying and Lan Zhan.…
This is so deep (on homo relationship). I have no idea. Like you said rightly, I missed all those details for I'm lacked in this "cultured knowledge". I'm so glad you're explaining it here. This drama, its anime and the novel are really an eye-opening experience for me. Thank you. :)
JiaoJiao's boobs are humongous! I love the scene in episode 14 (anime), where Jiang Cheng reassembles his disciples…
Well, when I said I've never watched an anime, I'm not sure if cartoon is considered anime. If so, then, yes, I have. I used to watch Tom and Jerry, and Road Runner etc. :)

So, now they are at season 2. I've watched up to episode 23 on Youtube. My neck is growing long waiting for the next episode. :( I'm starting everything from the beginning all over again while waiting.

Wow! Thanks for all the insights. Who says watching dramas is a waste of time (my family says so). I'm learning so much from my co-watchers here. This Mo Dao Zu Shi anime is superb - story aside, but the graphics and artwork are fantastic! I've never watched an anime before and never known I can be so hooked to one. You must be having a very interesting job if that is also your passion. So tell me more. You must be using computer software in producing all the layers right. I wish I get the chance to see how this is done one day. Thanks so much for your input.
