Agreed that SZE’s natural beauty is rare and very much appreciated by me, this coming from an international Asian watcher who is so done with Kdrama “beauties” who all look like they went to the same surgeon. No hate on ps but it becomes bland at best and uncanny valley at worst.

This tragic love story hit me in the feels and I’m kind of relieved the angst is over. The 3 main characters were portrayed well by the main actors, I had never seen their other dramas before GMP. FL is gorgeous and 2nd ML was so masculine as a rogue protector.
I absolutely hated the ML’s character, what a horribly vicious Crown Prince and all his terrible revenge shenanigans to maintain his social status. Why you do that to us CXX? I binge watched GMP for you because you were so endearingly awkward in Wow The World!
The ancient/historical costumes in here were beautiful, especially the Princess and the Xi State’s people. Cinematography and settings appeared high budget for 2018’s standards. Must admit that I was FF-happy when the politics and palace intrigue were at play but not without noticing how well the supporting characters acted their parts.
Do I love this story enough to re-watch? No, because I’m too sprung for TPOB and all things LYN right now but definitely recommended if you’re into a new angsty romance.

I preferred his organic raspy voice best from those old days, but the rasp doesn't come out that much in his stage performances anymore. Not sure if he lost it after vocal surgery or is controlling it with vocal training for better range/longevity? Possibly a combination of both?

I’m new to cdramas as an adult and tried to avoid costume / palace / war dramas due to my limited knowledge of it as a kid watching them by default through my parents. I slowly eased into the modern dramas, watched a few clips of costume dramas here and there. Then TPOB popped into my feed and I can’t move on. Gripping is the exact word for TPOB. I need another ML just like Wei Shao please!
