OMG, I love this drama. Enjoyed it from the start, and keep enjoying subsequent episode.

Also I have to say I am glad the premise is the premise and not some lame work around excuse. Although synopsis, which I read before I watched the first two episodes, doesn't mention the love spell--the second episode sets up that the love spell is part of the story, and so do the trailers which I watched after the first two episodes.

So anyway the spell is the spell and that is part of their journey and story. In life circumstances, timing, situations have a lot to do with relationships. In dramas it's those plus 'fate' from writers' pens. What I mean is, dramas will have characters end up in same situation, cross paths, coincidences, fates. When you put in supernatural elements, then it heightens even more since two or more characters end up being the ones who deal with those supernatural elements. So spell where parties are aware of it is not a huge big deal anymore than two drama characters who end up crossing paths again and again, being stuck in situations, forced to share supernatural secrets, etc.

I have to say this. The FL didn't put the spell simply because she liked the SML and wanted him.
She did it not because she was rejected, but because of what happened in her workplace after she was rejected. Obviously what she did was wrong, and stupid too since her actions are there on CCTV, looking like a weirdo stalker. However, people keep saying she's pathetic for wanting love like that. She was in an even more downcast position in her workplace and then came home to realize all the things she needed were right there.

Once she did it, as she did it, she is not completely serious. She's sort of doing it not fully believing it, wanting to see if it works or not. (She also advises ML later at the mountains to go to hospital when she finds out what spell he needs, precisely for this reason: because she wasn't as serious about her spell as he is and his is a more serious matter.) When she goes back to her desk, once again it's shown why she did the spell, imagine if the spell worked, it would shut up her co-workers' mouths.

It is after doing the removing sickness spell for the ML, she becomes more invested and really wanting to see if it worked. Plus...SML calls her so she gets excited, both because of whether the spell would work, and also because she really likes SML.

what if it wasn’t drinking the love potion that “made” him have romantic feelings for her? when she was…
There can't be 'true feelings' at this point, though. Whether it was the act of the spell or the potion, he is suddenly experiencing attraction and feelings that weren't there earlier. He did earlier at the shrine have a similar vision of her, same as he did when he saw her in the dress, kind of deja-vu feeling from the past.

But that was a fleeting few moments and don't lead to his actions and behavior in this episode. Neither does his rapport with her. There were a few times he empathized with her and kind of understood her, but those don't translate into feelings or liking this quickly.

I think no matter what...his current attraction and feeling is a product of outside forces. Now because they are 'destined to be with' each other, and because of the past love it was inevitable, but I think ignoring the fact that his initial liking was not all his own, hurts the legitimacy of the relationship when it develops.

It makes more sense to acknowledge, as he himself does, that it's not his own choosing/decision....but then it becomes his own. Even if it's destined from past lives, their current lives need have their own depth and reasonings in their love/relationship.

I was also confused. There was a great deal of focus on his hands in the last few minutes. Why did he keep looking…
The hand he was going to open open the door with was his left hand. (Because of the quivering of his right hand which comes and goes he's been more situated to use his left hand. See at the funeral where he dropped his phone, and he picked it up with his left hand.)

He first stopped himself from opening the door, and then turns back. He starts to turn back because he knows it's ridiculous to go in and care/be jealous, whatever.

So as he turns to go back, he suddenly realizes that he took the water on his left, which was meant for SML. Plus he's a lawyer and brags about his memory, so it's easy to put together that she knew about the meeting because she was there, and he knows the spell was going to be clear water.

What if the potion makes you reveal your true feelings for the right person? I mean, it seems that the boss is…
This makes sense. Though I don't know if he had 'true feelings' at that point, but since he was pre-destined with her and had gotten a deja-vu feeling even beforehand... the potion kind of just sped things up.

I am really enjoying this show. I believe it is only fair that the outcome came out this way, because...
I also believe the ML's physical reactions and attraction right now are due to spell and not because of his genuine liking her (takes time and will happen and is starting to happen). However the ones where he sees her and is sort of transported into past memories had already happened in episode 1 when they were at the shrine for demolishment.

But that doesn't translate to the way he was behaving and reacting to her after the spell. Anyway, I am okay with this. It's just multiple layers with the relationship, and that's fine. That's the story and that's what makes the drama its own.

I am really enjoying this show. I believe it is only fair that the outcome came out this way, because...
The ML drank the potion and he is aware of it. It is better than SML drinking it and not realizing it, not fair to SML. It's not fair to ML either, but he is in a space to be more understanding and is sort of a cohort to FL.

As for FL's actions. The second episode showed the progression, and it was totally believable that in that state when everything was perfectly in front of her, she would take that route. And because she did that...within the story and within fate...it has to be ML that drinks it because within story it really isn't as a big issue since the ML becomes aware and can have active conversations with the FL regarding it.

ML did not break up with his gf just because of his feelings. It was a combination of factors. He asked for time, but she showed up (which is not her fault, but from his perspective it sealed it for him that it wasn't worth putting work and energy into continuing for him), and when she showed up he still didn't know if the disease spell worked or not, and he was having those reactions to FL. It wasn't solely his reaction to FL. It was all those factors together, imo.

I hope the ex-gf isn't turned into a villain or whatever. Conflict is bound to happen with (in her mind) history repeating itself, but I hope conflict can be written in a manner where she doesn't cross lines and is done in a reasonable, understandable manner. Meaning we can still root for ML even if we can understand where the ex-gf is coming from.

That relationship was unequal anyway, though that doesn't mean it wasn't a real relationship. It was but it had issues and he didn't want to go on. That can be acknowledge as unfair to her, but still the truth and reality. That's how it is, relationships don't work out, suffering from timing, circumstance, personalities, etc---and in fiction, fate...lol.

I do believe SML probably likes her but rejected her because of his own reasons. And it is better for SML to like her without spell.

Bit lengthy but hear me out...I'm already starting to feel bad for ML's gf, I mean she seems reasonable and wants…
I don't want her to be a villain. I would rather she be sympathetic rather than just making her a villain just to make it easier for leads. Personally, I would rather have these kind of stories where it just doesn't work out, isn't fated, timing is wrong--rather than having the non-lead romantic interest be a villain.

That being said, it's early on in the show, don't know how they will take that character. I would hope they keep her the spoiled shallow person, but not maker her some sort of villainess. However, with the history between the two characters, if the show can make conflict without making the ex-gf horrible, but rather understandable...it would be major kudos.

The ml does seem to care (not sure about love) his now ex girlfriend and it looked more like he didn't want to…
I think he only started suspecting when he pieced together that it was his left hand that tried to open the door, which was after he broke up with her.

I don't know if he suspected the love spell when he broke up with her, just that he was having some sort of reactions.

But yeah I agree that he first asked her to wait to see if he could fix his disease, but then later broke up either because he wasn't sure if the disease removing spell would work, his reactions to FL, or the fact that his ex-gf didn't give him the time he asked for but showed up. Most likely it was probably all those reasons together and he just decided it was better to break it off. He liked her well enough, but not worth to do it all....

After reading some comments, the only scene I felt that was awkward or displayed Hong Jo's personality in a cringe/awkward…
Yeah, I thought that too that she wasn't picking up on it. Even more so, I thought it was weird that she took the book away from him while he's looking at the spell page for removing disease. It felt odd, surely she could see and read that? It's clear she felt uncomfortable or realized the seriousness in him so she took it away, but why would you take it away and not give serious thought if you see that the page he dwells on and is probably asking you for is to remove a disease.

It's the one point that I feel was a little off in terms of making sense, but just ignored it.

I guess one could say that she didn't see what the spell page was and that's the explanation I go for, but...it's a suspension of disbelief.

On A Different Mr. Xiao Aug 27, 2023
I have a question on character background, not putting spoiler tags because I would say it would be the kind of information revealed in a good synopsis.

In episode two, FL asks ML when he first came to her house, he replies on the day of his PhD interview. But in episode 6, the grandfather says about the ML used to stay at their house when he was a kid.

Honestly, the fact that they both knew each other since childhood (even if lost touch and reconnected later in college/post grad years) makes sense in the way how FL and grandfather treat ML, especially how FL behaves with ML even after he becomes the different Mr. Xiao, and how original Mr. Xiao would cover up for her in previously.

It brought me from kdrama slump…It’s a multi-genre, so there many moods in this drama, so its a roller coaster…
Yeah, I do think it's possible the work-mates would work together with her at some point, remember they are not outright evil though they are mean, harsh and rude. While her co-worker didn't go in with her to the shrine, she did check in and didn't abandon her. Could be basic fact that the co-worker would be on the hook as well if something happened, but still...

I don't know there was something real to the fact that while they were in the car and later in the shrine it was kind of professional and not outright rudeness. Like when they needed to do the work together there was a basic level (even if she were left to do the hard part alone).

I am currently watching 4 popular airing dramas and I enjoy each of them but this is by FAR the best one.. wow…
Yeah, I think for many of the people that like this, it's one of the most enjoyable dramas compared to others. I am not watching any currently airing dramas, but I can say I really enjoyed the first two episodes much more than dramas I've seen recently, even the ones I liked and completed.

Don't know what exactly, but everything hit the right points and spots. Things that annoy others are things I find no issue with. I don't know how long it will last, but I was hooked from the first episode itself and it continued into the second ep.

it's sad how her being kind can be taken as a weakness. not everyone is going to fight back, but that doesn't…
Yeah. And the difference between her/her boss and SFL/her is that she wasn't malicious on purpose. It was a mistake because she was too hasty, and she needed to apologize. It's different than her her ex classmate who did things purposefully. Nevertheless, it showed strength on her part to recognize that she needed to apologize. There may be a chance her boss could slowly forgive her since she made that apology.

JSY, I never bother defending. He was rude, but in terms of story and characterization I understand he is automatically siding with his gf, in that trio scene. Plus it lead to her apologizing to her boss, which she never had done before and should have done.

However, his words to her after her confession were very harsh and cruel. He has no idea what happened back then, and who knows when he started observing/hearing her convo with SML where she didn't purposefully confess to SML. It happened by accident and then she decided to go with it. (I guess it speaks to his personality that he still was that harsh to her, even though he knows he needs her help, and had asked for her help and was waiting for an answer.) I think he may also have a bit of resentment towards her that his fate is tied to her.

Not everyone found the FL annoying. I found her silliness when she was by herself endearing. What makes dance sequences alone in their home okay for some characters and not others? Her silly mocking the ML as she tries to open the box shows her personality, and that sequence gave me a few chuckles.

People say she is weak, but actually she is only a pushover like that in her workplace. Otherwise if you see how she always gave answers and comebacks to ML, she is a rounded character who has some wit and smarts. She was smart enough to know to record when needed, smart enough to give ML a play on words and taunt him slightly on his being a lawyer,

She is a determined person at work, an honest and upstanding worker--the other workers don't appreciate her for it, and even dislike that aspect, because it's often thankless to go the extra step. This was shown within in the first few scenes of the first episode: at the construction site, and also when she and the previous co-worker were cleaning up the fish.
