It's great to read all of this. I've not rewatched it yet, but I really do love this drama and and it was great reading your breakdown in the above comment, and also the the lingering questions/specs/discussions.

But it's not really true that he would give up everything for her. (And this is not a knock on him, it's something I appreciate.) He was powerful enough to protect her, unlike CH yes, but he himself said during their mortal wedding night conversation he wouldn't give up his responsibilities even if she hated him. Now at that time (unlike earlier) she understood what he needed to do and said she wouldn't hate him for that, and even didn't want to stop him.

Later once they got together he was willing to fight and overrule laws of her being the queen but he also never gave up his goal of freeing his soldiers. In the end he wasn't willing to sacrifice her life for his goals, but he still never gave up his goal--just attempted a way to both achieve his goal and save her life (even if he lost her). His plan was to have her lose her love for him, thus removing the bracelet and saving her life--while his brother could collect Chi's soul from the bracelet to release the soldiers. None of that went according to plan, but that was what it was.

They were both in different positions. DFQC was in a position where he was able to protect her--but both in their own ways were held to responsibilities, and one of the things I appreciate about this drama is that DFQC didn't give up on his responsibilities for her sake.

In the end, he gave up everything for her, to save her. But that was already once his oath and responsibilities were fulfilled.

I agree that it could only be DFQC, and CH would not/could not do the things DFQC did. Just that their positions and circumstances had a lot to do with it. I guess one could say DFQC would never compromise her life for anything... but really no such situation came up for him till the end with Tai Su. Again, due to how powerful he is. So he was always the right choice, and maybe even the fated/prophesied choice in the drama.

OMG. Yes. Trailer has me because I enjoyed the first part of Autumn Ballad where the leads were comedic scheming against each other (till I dropped it due to the BS all around), and Jeremy Tsui shone...shone! Anyway, I will wait a bit to start watching this.

Also, right at the start it says that legend says only the Goddess can stop the Moon King. Whether this was always the fate but never imagined and interpreted that way by the immortals, or the fate was fulfilled but differently....

I liked them, and also think it's why second installment can't work. Because it would have to be focused on Chillan-Muyan story--and CP/Muyan-Chillan has more spark than Muyan/Chillan.

Also, I wouldn't blame CH "throwing her under the bus." He had to weigh his options, responsibilities and consequences. They all had to weight their differing responsibilities at various times, including DFQC. It was just how things were to pan out.

Okay so I have a few questions. I don't know if any of this is explained in the novel, sorry for my questions. If you have any answers, it would be greatly appreciated.

So what about the fact that Orchid changed the fate she saw of CH. I think she said (haven't gone back to check) that it leads to death, and she was prepared for it.

Was the spell put on by Si Meng for the transfer of souls, or was that a given when she entered the vortex and then the kiss and lightening and body swap were activator and consequence?

Also, I know Orchid's soul entered DFQC and was mentioned remained her. But I don't remember/think it was vice versa--only during body swap was DFQC was Orchid. Unless I am forgetting something.

What about the heart curse? That was something that could only be placed by Orchid's tribe, right? So did it happen with her unconsciously releasing her powers and knowledge when she was almost dying? Or was that Si Meng, or result of soul transfer.

I watched this on YT four years ago. Has editing flaws but the main storyline, with the main couple and her ex were all very engaging and good. Just had a lot of editing flaws, but whatever. The secondary couple I couldn't watch anymore (I think mostly because of the SFL) a few episodes after they got to Thailand towards the end of the series, for the last quarter of the drama or so, I would FF their scenes and just watch the rest.

Anyway, it was nice to see. The couple had a mature and realistic chemistry, and in fact she had good chemistry with the other two males as well and like I said, her story with ex also progressed well. And of course Bai Yu was in the part of the story that was intriguing and interesting.

I fell in love with the actress, she is exquisitely beautiful.

If anything a story focusing on Chillan-MuYan can be possible, but even that is iffy.

How would a second installment even work? I don't see how it could. What kept it going was the overall mystery and how most of the cases and relationships were tied to that mystery.

I still think about this drama.

Their were some flaws and the plot points with Jie-Li wer a negative. But the overall idea of what he had to do once the bone bracelet was infected and how the affected characters reacted accordingly is just well thought out, imo.

DFQC could neither sacrifice Orchid's life nor could he betray his responsibilities and his people, so he decided to try to make her hate him. The editing and scenes are hasty and could be better, but it really was the only thing he could do. He can't go and tell her the truth, as much as they talked about talking to each other and making the decisions together...what is he supposed to do? Tell her something that he knows will lead to her sacrificing her life and will help him achieve his goal to release the prisoners? Don't tell her or tell her and let it keep killing her slowly. It was a screwed either way situation.

And he chose the only option he could see to protect both her life and fulfill his responsibilities. Sacrifice their love, save her life, save his soldiers.

At the same time, his brother is also not wrong, either. Though callous, he is thinking of his people and kingdom and when he saw DFQC testing the waters with the Evil Spirit, he went to Orchid and blasted her. This part I feel should've been expounded more but instead scenes were just edited in and out, where it could have transitioned and developed better.

She does end up sacrificing her life, doing needed to be done. But how it was to be done...could only be done in this manner, giving results that only the ancient god knew would happen, no one else.

In the end, we see the validity of Xun Feng's stance. When the Moon Kingdom soldiers came to Heavenly realm to help fight Tai Su, one asked if they really have to fight DFQC for the sake of the Heavenly Realm, and Xu Feng, displaying leadership, declared they are not fighting for someone, but for the three realms and that he will never repeat past mistakes.

I think because when she entered the vortex part of her soul entered him...and that one of the consequences of that is the body swap. (Edit, I meant one of the consequences of that is the body swap if/when they kiss during lightening.)

I'm not sure if the heart curse right happened right then or she subconsciously did it when he was choking her. I always thought her almost dying activated her latent powers and she put the curse on him as he choked her. But now I am not sure.

Yes, but there is nothing from Chillan or Chillan-MuYan flashbacks to suggest there was any such situation where she thought he was going to marry someone else and got jealous. To be honest, it seems off from their story as told and shown.

MY did have the painter ingest his vitality stone, that's how he got the painter to have the wolf dream, which he painted. I think he says it too at the end that he planned for the painter to take his stone.

To be fair, I think he expected the gang to make it out alive out of the caves. What he was going to do if they hadn't made it in time, I don't know. Because he wanted Marquis to go down for the trading and to be exposed. Plus he really didn't want to kill them unless he had to at the end.

On one hand he was going along with the Snow Chamber and doing anti-Q things, but he was doing that with the intent of getting it all exposed and causing the Qi to vote for war against Qian.

Yeah I know. But she planned on being the Void Princess. She only wanted to save her sister, not switch places with her. The Third Prince switched and Heavenly Prince ruined the plans for the Beast Prince to save one (Yetan's plan) or both(BP's plan).

Anyway that I thought was one of the best sequences, very well done and was awesome to watch. The chaos, the confusion, the multiple schemes converging at once for the final result. Truly epic.

The CP's story of his wife being jealous. Was it fake? Real CP's story? Or his story with Chillan? There is nothing to suggest that was how his relationship with Chillan progressed in any of the Qi flashbacks--except for WJ flashed back to that convo while looking sadly at Chillan.

HZ mentioned early on that the masked figure had no scent, and that the figure knew how to hide scents (I think he said it's something even they don't know how to do). So he was definitely hiding MY's scent. And we can assume he was able to keep/save/whatever the real CP's scent to use when he was CP (especially he wouldn't need that scent if he wasn't going to be around Xi people).
