Looking back on this series, I think people just mistook love for calamity. An orange-shining stone just means…
I really like what you say here. I think Bai Zi Hua was so stupid, and Mo Yan was the worst. Sha Jie Jie on the other hand was a person not afraid to show his love openly and fight for it. Also, because he was willing to accept the feelings for "Little Thing" (even though she was just a substitute for his sister at first) he changed and became a better person becaue of it.
Mo Yan is the stereotype of a character so obsessed with doing the "good" thing that he becomes narrow-minded, suspicious and hateful. I think a fear of love is often the cause of such things. He is supposed to be one of the "good guys" but he's really mean a lot of the time.
To come home to this after a pretty bad day at work, wow, I feel so much better now! Thank you! One fangirl moment after another here! ;) I have watched many of these dramas and of course I feel the same way as you do (but I haven't watched any of the movies you mention) but I haven't watched The Great White Tower yet, I know it's a must watch. He's SUCH an amazing actor, I just want more and more and he has been in so many great dramas. I knew you were going to write this, I'm glad you finally did and that you waited for Kanbei before you did it. ;) <3
I'm a j-dramafan and I think it was a good idea to write this article. :) I don't like all the ones you mention but I LOVE Orange Days, and Rich Man Poor Woman will always be special to me because it was the first drama I watched. <3
Beethoven Virus! <3 " it was this one that left me paralysed for Days" - agree! I love it so much. I also liked Secret Love Affair. I haven't watched the other ones but now I want to - well, except maybe the horror one... This article also makes me think about the Japanese movie Departures - I loved the music in it.
A very good selection of actors! I haven't watched everything you write about but now I want to add more titles to my ptw-list. I haven't seen enough of Kitamura Kazuki but I always liked him in everything I saw him in. And I LOVE Gunshi Kanbei so dfinitely want to see more of Okada Junichi.
I'm reading fanfics because I still can't get over this beautiful drama. T_T This is the best drama ever, hands…
Thanks, I'll take a look at those stories. (I used to read and write a lot of fanfic before, but not since I started watching Asian dramas, I don't know why.)

Yes, it is very hard to get over such a beautiful and amazing drama. But fanfic?! I never even thought of that. Are there actually any good NiF fanfics out there? Have you found anyone that makes the drama justice? :)
*lol* This is awesome. I wish I was reading a "Currently watching..." article because this sounds fun and so well thought out. I'm not familiar with your actors because I haven't watched that many k-dramas, except the gisaeng owner, because I'm currently watching SFD. So I'm preparend to believe you nailed it with the casting as well. Good work! A different, entertaining and well-written article.
I liked this but a bit lacking though - I wish it has wittier insights on life, relationships, 'mature' women…
Yes, I agree. I just completed it, and then I went here to see what the average rating was. It surprised me to see that my rating is that much lower. Not that it was bad at all, but like you said, a bit lacking.
Whatever happened with the son getting the girl pregnant?
Yes, what happened? Nobody knows, I guess. That's one of my problems with this, too many things going on and nothing felt "completed" by the time it ended.
"Not easily loved- genius for I needed time to fall into his trap" - I think KMM likes these kinds of roles, because that's how I've always felt so far. :) The reason I first put this on my ptw-list... but of course the drama is a lot more than him. Now a few of my MDL friends are watching this and of course I have noted their great love for this drama! Your article has, I think, given me the push I needed to finally start watching this.
is it me, but I am very lost in the first episode!!!
To be honest I don't remember when, I guess I got into it little by little. I think I started by paying attention to the princes, then the old men and then the women. It took me some time to figure out how the characters are connected, but by episode 6 I was definitely in love with the drama and felt like I knew what was going on.
