I loved Battle of Changsha so much, it's definitely one of my favourites! (The Disguiser and Sparrow are also very good dramas.) I haven't watched the other two, might try Vigilantes in Masks. I am a fan of Hu Ge but after seeing him in more serious roles I'm not sure how I feel about a "goofy" character. Could be a nice change! :)
Their site says they only ship their Tasting Bokksu Box within the US so I guess that means there's no point trying to win it? Well, if it were possible it would be nice to try something Japanese. :)
This is a very unusual idea for an article and I like it a lot! I hope you write more. Also, a very interesting read. I haven't watched most of these dramas, the only one is The Three Musketeers. When I was watching it I was wondering about the king's character, why was he like that and how could he even be king and so on... So thank you for explaining the character a bit. Whenever I watch a historical drama I have no idea about what's real or not but it is very interesting to find out.
I love some Chinese dramas and I've been disappointed by others. I'm still going to take a closer look on the ones you've showed here because they are SO gorgeous so it makes me wish the dramas are wonderful enough to match them. :) Most of the time, though, the way the cover looks don't push me away from watching a drama. Sometimes, though, a good cover pulls me in. :)
I haven't seen any of these dramas (except HYD) but it's a good idea for an article, I definitely prefer the nice guys nine times out of ten. :) I have one example of a truly wonderful man: the male lead in On the Way to the Airport! <3 Also, in j-dramas there are a few of them. :)
Thank you for the review! I went to look at the reviews because now that I am at episode 22 I consider dropping it. You tell me I'm not the only one, at least, who is not impressed... Because you say the later episodes are good maybe I'll go on. Actually the only thing I really like (except some scenes between Su Su and Ye Hua) is when the little fox princess is on screen with Dijun and friends. :)
What a good idea for an article! It's good to see c-dramas getting some attention. I haven't read any of these novels but I think all of them could be good dramas. Especially the first one, I like how you describe it. Maybe I'll read it! I never thought about reading Chinese novels online so thanks for the idea. :)
This was a fun article even though I haven't seen most of these (but I like your idea!). The only one I've seen is Last Cinderella and I agree with your reasons for liking it. I haven't rewatched it (but I might do it some day for the sake of the hot guys...) but if I did I'm sure I would notice its flaws. They didn't bother me too much at the time because it was the fifth or sixth drama I watched... ;)
I don't have a preference, I watch currently airing dramas or finished ones depending on what I want to watch at the moment. I agree with all your reasons! :)
All this talk about how good Goblin was is making me want to check it out.
Lots of people really love Goblin and call it a "masterpiece". There are also some of us who call it "extremely overrated". It depends on your taste if you'll like it or not...
I was gonna try to add some Japanese ones, but I found myself wondering what exactly qualifies a show as a "melodrama".…
I would say that "melodrama" means that the acting and plot is overly dramatic and emotional; the story appeals more to the emotions than logic and that's why it can be cliché or stereotypical characterization; plot holes can be acceptable. The end is usually strongly dramatic and the story is sensational. I haven't seen most of the dramas listed but I would say Goblin is rather melo.
Well, that's how I would explain it if someone asked me what "melodrama" means; I guess maybe some people can use the word differently. I wouldn't say "melo" is necessarily the the same as "tearjerker" - that, I would say, could just as well be the same as "tragedy". A tragedy could be melodramatic or not; it's simply about the way it's written and acted.
I don't think there is a genre guide. That would be a good topic for another article. :)
This was on track to be one of my new favorite dramas and I was even anticipating rewatching it before I'd finished…
I just finished watching it and I agree with your every word. I loved this drama so much and then the last episode happened. It doesn't make sense. It's not like Sakura is in love with a happily married man (which would make her love hopeless), she should have stayed and given him more time to accept his feelings for her. He admitted in the end that he loved her so he should have gone to find her!
There; I had my little rant. I didn't think about a special... I hope we get one!
Like others have said, a sequel to something amazing is always scary... Of course it's impossible for Hu Ge to be in it (and because it's 40 years later it's logical if no one remains, if you think about it...) BUT at least he has read the script and says it's closely related to the original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PB6jC0N9hOU So there is hope!
(On the other hand, what else could he say...... We'll just have our fingers crossed, wait and see!)
