long-ish explanation on why the main romance does not quite work for me.
I agree with you. No chemistry. And bullshit reasons for their past 'trauma'. For example, he 'betrayed' her by having the temerity to date someone even though she fancied him (but hadn't said anything and they weren't together). Just no.

Ignore that. it's become clear that it's 1636 - they refer to the founding of the Qing empire.

It is a good drama, though. Maybe not BDOTY, given its tone, but its pretty good. And has touched on some hard-to-reach topics.

You can (and should) help your children over the man you're shagging - particularly if he's abusive. Lets hope we hear more of her back story to make this more understandable.

And it appears that his Mum doesn't love him either - or didn't, when he was a young lad and needed her. She prioritised her boyfriend over him, knew that he was being regularly being beaten up by the sons of the man she was shagging (and being treated badly by the man himself) but did . . . nothing. At least that's what we've been shown so far.

I think a lot of squeakers turn off/downrate if one can't answer 3-5 classic questions:

1, Is there romance?
2, In what episode do they start 'dating'?
3. Does he like her first or the other way around?
4. Is there a happy ending?
5. Do the FL and ML end up together?

Plus, anyone over 25 is 'gross'.

Yes, love only conquers all in dramaland. Genuine mental illness needs genuine medical help. Also glad that they prioritised the (fictional) child.

I'm not making excuses for his behaviour - he's a grown ass adult now - but if you were an abused child/teenager and your mum did/said nothing so she could keep hold of her boyfriend, and the financial security he provided, you might be bitter, too.

I've just read Park Ji Won's profile. Gawd, why didn't they give her the FL role in LMBYK rather than Jung In-sun?

You don't have to 'cheat' to get an STD, just have sex with an infected person. She has, like a normal person, had sex with other men, before her current relationship (she talks about the wet blanket man in one episode) so maybe he infected her? And if she's always had safe sex with her current boyfriend the chances of F to M transmission are low.

Except that she did have other sexual partners, e.g. before him.
