I still think that Charlie will play a huge role in the future episodes and I promised to throw tantrums if they…
I'm sure Charlie will have a big "plot twist!" role, but will I care enough about him by then?? Probably not, since they're not giving us anything substantial to like about Charlie. Mf could die and I literally won't care. I know that's a hot take but š
Subjective Warning! And probably Nitpick Warning for some of you! but I have some teeny tiny mild feelings about this episode.
Number one, Jeff. He's clearly an avoidant type who rather flees from confrontation or discomfort than face it head on, which at least gives him potential in future episodes to turn that attitude around, but that doesn't mean I like him at the moment. Alan was right about him being partially to blame for nobody trusting him. And personally, I think the way Jeff reacts to it all is very annoying and irritating to deal with. It's cowardly.
Secondly, it makes NO SENSE for Charlie to race. He is inexperienced, "trained" only by Babe and for Babe to see, Babe is biased, Charlie is still someone suspicious. I know I'm having a hard time letting this go, I KNOW, I'm sure y'all are tired of it. But frankly *I'm* tired of the series ignoring how weird Charlie's presence among the team is. And I swear to God if Charlie somehow wins or something similar over Way in that championship race it will genuinely lower my rating and enjoyment.
I am assuming here that Charlie will end up racing for Babe in the championship because they wouldn't waste all this time to set it up only to fall flat. Sorry, Dean, you're just a side character, and we can't have someone like that around for the important stuff.
I'm a writer and I just cannot stand these things, which is why I preemptively agreed all this is very subjective. The lack of logic and action-consequences don't make sense to me. And I'm not saying this is the only BL with those issues but for me Pit Babe has officially surpassed suspension of disbelief with this episode.
If I was anyone on that team I'd genuinely believe Babe to be insane for even suggesting Charlie.
At least Alan gives some push back. Like thank God he has them race Babe but I still feel like this whole situation is just implausible.
And, side note, we get more exposition and information on BABE but Charlie is left empty yet again. What do we concretely know about Charlie that doesn't involve Babe? Very few things if anything. He can cook? Yeah, for Babe. He can race (maybe, somehow)? Yeah, for Babe. He can fight? Yeah, for Babe. Why is he with the team in the first place? Oh, yeah, for Babe. I mean, REALLY. Even if we'd just seen Charlie by himself in his own apartment or wherever the fuck he lives, God only knows, it'd be an opportunity to inject personality in the items he keeps around.
To me, Charlie as a character is giving "self-insert". He isn't entirely, or at least not as bad as it could be, but just consider it for moment. He's an empty husk only there to be Babe's boy, as he so proudly proclaims like every episode.
And that's why I'd rather follow a dubious character like Way cause at least he's fucking interesting. Charlie has no nuance in his character and in his actions. And I will die on that hill.
I never watched "I told sunset about you" but I saw "I promise you the moon and back" and I can tell you I dislike…
In retrospect every time I think about that mf Teh my hatred for him grows. Oh-aew is so cute and adorable despite being a flawed person, whereas Teh is flawed in ways that exceed my tolerance. I saw some of the IPYTM non-spoiler reviews and comments and was like š BFFR right now I ain't doing this again. It's more annoying knowing that Oh-aew and another character in ITSAY are briefly in a relationship that is so cute and healthy but Oh-aew wasn't feeling it... I guess. I genuinely wished Teh/Oh-aew wouldn't be endgame from episode 3 or so onwards. Like my header says, the ending just left me feeling bitter.
Also, side note for those only using the MDL app and are unaware of thisāyes, this dumbass app will indeed still show comments left by people you've blocked.
However, this isn't the case on the desktop version of MDL. So if possible, I recommend blocking trolls and browsing this discussion thread via the desktop version instead for the time being to avoid this tomfoolery.
Really not comparable to LT because LT is also representing important aspects in society (I don't want to spoil…
Eh, I was only comparing them in the sense that they're both good series, but that one personally appeals more to me due to tropes/genres. Not comparing in the sense that they're anywhere close to being similar in content.
I agree with those saying this is the best BL currently airing, at least for the people who aren't as much into typical romcom-style BLs. I'm saying that only cause Last Twilight is currently airing too. LT is good, but I personally prefer these series with a very strong external plot. And also I'm just a sucker for so many of these tropesāreincarnation, mythology, etc.
BillyBabe? Literal perfection. If it goes on like this, I think my favorite BL, IFYLITA, will need to share its number one spot with The Sign!
I'm only down to clown. It is clown-o-clock all day every day for me here in these comments.
Woah! I've got two titles to my name nowāPresident of the WAC and now also Mayor of Clown Town. I'm very honored. I believe both describe me exquisitely well. Thank you for the VIP treatment, esteemed Conductor.
But you donāt get it, the show is actually a metaphor š /sarcasm. Like if you want me to take your show about…
But I unironically agree though. Like you're not wrong. That's absolutely what some of them believe and are commenting about.
Those long ass essays on the show being artsy and a critique of Thailand's gay culture literally make me feel gaslit. Like, girl, I don't care that it's any of thatāit's still bad! It shouldn't matter! Any topic no matter how serious can still be portrayed in a bad manner.
Whatever the director wanted to do, failed, and that's why we clown around. Not because we hate sex or because we don't see the potential this show hadāthe point is that it is a bad fucking series.
Preach it to the heavens and back. I almost wish the plot of this actually was Charlie just absolutely gaslighting…
Exactly. I was thinking about how the set up of Pit Babe's plot is perfect for an actual enemies-to-lovers plot instead of this fake ass, boring mystery about who Charlie is that the writers banked on us being interested in.
Like just imagine, if Charlie like you said got close to Babe while actually working for Tony, intending to manipulate him. I genuinely wish this was the actual plot, though obviously what I like is subjective, but that's the whole point of this comment. But anyway, then in the process, Charlie genuinely starts to care for Babe and eventually falls in love with him. Though they'd still have to make Babe less dumb or else you'd run into the same problems except it can't be "explained" away by revealing Charlie was the good guy all along, so Babe is justified for being so trusting.
And it's not a new story idea! It's been done before! But there's a reason it keeps being doneābecause it's a proven plot that works over and over again.
But when you have a character like Charlie, who they want to play off so badly as mysterious with hidden motivations, is actually so obviously a good guyādue to the writers overcompensating on the mystery vibesāthat there is barely anything interesting about Charlie/Babe.
Pete/Way haven't even appeared in a scene together and I already have Second Couple Syndrome waiting in anticipation for their interactions. That should say enough.
Because guess who are interesting? Kim, who, despite being on the opposite team, wants to race fair against Babe, and therefore makes an enemy of Winner and potentially even Tony; and Way, who has an agenda based on unrequited love, who employs toxic methods yet still clearly loves Babe so much.
