Exactlyy I fully agree 🙏🏻 I'm willing to give them another chance but if TNP is less than a good, solid series, I will never be hyped for a DMD series again hahaha

Literally always disappoints 😭 I look forward to this one and The Next Prince, though not for ZeeNunew—for the costumes, setting, and the side characters/couples. Other than that...

I have faith that volume 4 might actually expand on the whole, ya know, cheating. I hope it becomes an actual plot point and character exploration. I'd like to believe Jaejun's blatant projecting of his own guilt is on purpose by the writers and not them actually glossing over it.
But who knows, we all remember how loose ends were (not) wrapped up in volume 1 so 🤷‍♀️

I'm rarely looking forward to a DMD production but this series is one of the few exceptions!

is this true real life story?
Nope, they're all actors acting out a fictional story.

So many people idolizes and romanticizes Ming’s behavior, is very alarming and sad to watch. Ming doesn’t…
literally what are you talking about the majority of viewers hate Ming lmfao

those who do love him, like myself, love him BECAUSE of the exact issues so many people (understandably) have with him. not necessarily *despite* of them.

and no, you're not the only one who sees that pattern—we all see it.
not everyone adds a laundry list disclaimer that they acknowledge Ming is toxic, he's obsessive, needs to grovel for at least 5 episodes, yada yada, because frankly that gets very tiring after a few times. objectively it's extremely clear what the majority opinion on Ming is, come on now lol

Literally discovered this series today and binged everything lmfao

I love this series, though I do gotta say, I feel like the personalities of Jaejun and Jihan have unnaturally changed since volume 1. I know I'm not the first to say that but ya know.

I think it's because of a common thing in romance where once characters are in a relationship their previous dynamic is more or less erased as if being in love warps entire personalities + to get plot going and drama happening they also add new traits and quirks that may not line up with the established characters.

girl I want cheeky Jihan back 😩

Can't help but agree haha. I was about to write a minor essay in this discussion thread questioning why on Earth…
Honestly it's not like I'm surprised with how once the majority of viewers have found their "culprit" character, they refuse to acknowledge people and by extension characters can change and develop with time—but it's still deeply annoying to me.

It's always gotta be black and white, a sweetheart character and the villain instead of just seeing characters as naturally flawed, 3 dimensional and with the ability to change. If they don't change throughout a story, that's one thing (usually done on purpose too) but with series like these, they tend to change.

But it's always already too late for a big part of viewers for characters like Ming because I guess change and redemption has a time and flaw limit after all.

I watched the first five episodes of the series. I haven't read the books, and I don't feel like it considering…
Can't help but agree haha. I was about to write a minor essay in this discussion thread questioning why on Earth Joe went to do that foreign stuntman job in the first place, even after Wut's advice. I get that it's supposedly all he's good at (being a stuntman/stand-in) but like, for the time being, couldn't he have worked a job that doesn't need a degree or experience? Working in a supermarket wouldn't have paid as much, but it's that or risking your life--a risk that was greatly emphasized by Wut and his wife.

Basically, even now, Joe doing that job only comes across to me as a plot device to have him killed in a believable way (i.e. he dies because of his job as a stuntman) even though it doesn't entirely make sense.

So I completely agree and I just don't quite understand the notion that Ming (or Tong, for that matter, even though I DESPISE that man) is responsible for Joe's death. Even saying he's indirectly responsible is a stretch; it only looks like that's the case because Joe went to do the risky job, and ended up dying because of it. *It* being the foreign production's negligence, not Ming or Tong.

In my humble opinion, there's one tangible connection; because of what Tong and Ming did, Joe got blacklisted and was left without work. Everything that happens after isn't directly caused by them. I think this is kind of subjective though so I do understand those who say they are indirectly responsible. However, I'd still argue it's unreasonable to conclude that Ming caused Joe's death.

Side note; Saying Ming (or Tong) caused his death is actually stripping Joe of his agency. He chose to do the foreign production's work. He tried to rationalize this decision by claiming he couldn't do any other work in the stand-in/stuntman industry, which is true but is only tangentially related. He wasn't forced or coerced into doing anything.
I get that what Ming and Tong did had an impact on Joe's mindset and way of thinking, but I mean, at that point, where is the line drawn that says someone is or isn't responsible for another person's actions?

anyway sorry for the long comment haha, nobody has to agree with me lmfao I just love this series an impossible amount. I'll continue pushing my "Joe is as obsessed with Ming as Ming is obsessed with him, it just shows differently due to their wildly different personalities" agenda till the day i die.

Ming's like a bloodhound with the way he almost immediately sniffed out Joe's soul in Joe 2's body 💀 mf has a sixth sense or something but it only applies to Joe

Probably an incoming unpopular opinion ahead (read with caution lol, disclaimer that I am not attempting to justifying…
Oh my god, you wouldn't believe how happy I was to read this comment of yours. I'm sorry if this ends up as a somewhat long reply haha, I genuinely didn't think I'd find anyone here who feels the same as I do.

Typical disclaimer for anyone who doesn't like/hates/isn't sympathetic towards Ming; I know his actions are unhealthy and toxic towards Joe, I'm not justifying anything he did, etc etc.

Anyway. Somewhere in EP 3, when Ming and Joe went out on Christmas day, I got 100% convinced that the biggest problem character is Tong. He knows exactly how Ming thinks of him (or how Ming *believes* he himself thinks of and feels towards Tong) and is absolutely manipulating and using Ming. But imo that isn't too hard to figure out, right? Even though I see most people directly hating Ming, which I totally get and understand, I'm just saying--I think it's pretty obvious that Tong's the so-called 'mastermind' here. He's a manipulator in the most classic sense.

Side note, it doesn't help that I struggle to believe the romantic relationship between Tong and May is real; or, to clarify, I think May loves Tong, but I'm having a hard time believing it's genuinely reciprocated. If this was meant to come across like that, then damn, the acting is amazing.

Literally the first thought I had when we saw the flashback of Ming looking at the movie poster and the scene of 'Tong' in his first movie was like; "Oh, that's Joe 100%." It can't not be him haha. So I agree with your observation about that, that Ming was attracted to Joe and mistook him (reasonably so) for Tong. Mf Tong really taking credit for that stunt scene as if he did the scene himself lmfao

We're already getting hints about how Ming has changed within these two years, and I really hope we'll get to see if he has recognized how he acted towards Joe and Tong and if he's taken any action to, in any way, cut Tong off. Two years have passed for Ming and co, but for Joe, it's only been like, what, a few days? A week? I can't wait to see the difference between past Ming vs him now and how Joe deals with that.

I binged these four episodes today as well and I love this series so so much. I like both Joe and Ming, it's really just Tong who has me cursing out loud. I definitely hope for a Ming redemption. I mean, people can change, no? That's why I think I'll adore this series from start to finish, if Joe/Ming end up in a healthy relationship, that's the best outcome for me personally.

Anyway, thank you for posting your essay haha, I loved reading it <3
