I'm also glad there's no love triangle in this drama. I especially like that the female leads also care about each other. Hopefully this trend continues in new Chinese dramas.

At the beginning, I wanted a BL plot between the male leads but GL between the two female leads lol

I started this drama on a whim and didn't know what to expect, but I really like it so far. The plot is well-paced, the actions scenes are great and I love the friendship between the FL and her brother/friend.

Haven't watched all the episodes yet but so far, romance is just one part of the plot, not the whole focus. I'd recommend it for someone who doesn't like romance-focussed dramas but that's just my subjective opinion.

A drama doesn't need a romance storyline at all to make it "acceptable". Since they can't include same-sex couples because of censorship, I hope they don't make up a random romantic relationship.
Not all dramas need a (straight) romance. Script writers these days seem to think romance-less dramas don't sell, but I think many viewers would love to see strong friendships and platonic relationships.

The lead actress was really good in Love and Destiny as a smart, graceful doctor. It's a bit surprising to see her in a silly web drama role.

I don't quite know how to explain it but I think the 3rd and 5th con you mentioned are supposed to be that way. They make sense within the story.
The worldbuilding is shallow and the city where women are superior over men is not convincing because the FL who created the whole world is not a good script writer. The drama even makes fun of it several times. She uses a lot of clichés and tropes in her story and I think the shallow worldbuilding is another thing that's supposed to show she's not a good author.

I don't think she looks European and I'm from here. Her nose is quite flat and round, and her face is short. This is all pretty common in Chinese people. I've seen actresses who were going for a more European look and they got obvious nose jobs to make their noses unrealistically high and narrow. This actress's nose is the opposite of theirs.

Yang Zi has fewer letters than Andy Yang. I'm sure it's not so hard to remember for most people, even if they don't speak Chinese.

Does anyone know if Wang Xing Yue (the prince) is dubbing himself or not? I tried to look it up on Baidu but the list of voice actors didn't seem to be complete.

I looked up other pictures of him and he looks far more natural in them. Hopefully, it's just bad make-up because his face in this drama veers too much into uncanny valley territory.

Maybe it's young C-drama fans who don't like his appearance. I can see why a teenager doesn't want to watch an actor who looks like he could be her uncle. But there are enough C-dramas with young pretty boys, so this one is a welcome change to me.

I've heard this concept is pretty common in Chinese web novels. The Romance of Tiger and Rose is a good drama but they didn't invent it.
I wouldn't mind having more dramas with similar story lines since I really enjoy these, lol.

If it's true, this sucks since Ren Hao is playing a main role. Hopefully the storyline won't suffer because his scenes got cut.
