I know for sure that Liu Yuning has many Chinese fans who find him handsome and there are lots of Chinese viewers who enjoy seeing him on screen, otherwise he wouldn't be casted for all these big roles in high-budget shows.

This is the first time I'm dropping a high-quality drama.

It could have been such a great show but I just don't have the patience to sit through another 40 episodes of crappy storytelling. My suspicion is that something went wrong during the editing stage as it often feels like scenes were cut that could've explained the plot and character motivations better. Or maybe the script itself is just that bad.

What a waste of interesting characters, relationships and fantasy elements.

I've noticed the same thing too. It really makes me wonder why Chinese dramas tend to attract these kinds of fans because I rarely come across them in other fandoms with a female majority fanbase.

Zhao Lusi and Liu Yuning being paired up for a second time is a dream come true 😍 I absolutely loved them together in The Long Ballad. Hopefully this drama will have a good plot and
well-written characters.

I'm 5 episodes into this drama and most of the younger cast can't act. Unfortunately, that also includes two of the main actors. However, Chen Zheyuan and the actress who plays Little Fairy are pretty good. From their demeanour to their posture, they fit right into this classic wuxia world with the older cast and seem to know what they're doing. Hopefully, the rest will improve as the story progresses.

Have you tried watching it on 1.25 or even 1.5 speed? I also found the beginning really slow and had to watch it on faster speed to be able to get through it.

I don't know why some international viewers take negative opinions from Cnetz so seriously and even come here to spread them when it's an open secret there are many bought accounts and trolls. Why can't we focus more on the positive sides and pay less attention to fake negativity? 😇

I'm pleasantly surprised this drama is already airing because I thought it was still in its editing stage. The trailer looked absolutely amazing and really made me look forward to this show. Now I'm off to enjoy the first episode!

Well, it's a fantasy story with fairies, gods and other fantastical creatures. They are often depicted as perfect and ethereal, that's why make-up and skin-smoothening filters are used to give them poreless skin and a perfect appearance. Dramas about realistic plots, set in the modern world, showcase more realistic-looking actors and actresses.

By the way, I don't think the lead actress had plastic surgery. But one of the male actors looks a little bit artificial to me.

I'm actually surprised over how popular this drama is. Because everywhere I look, people love complaining about baby-voiced FLs and this drama's FL has one of the most childlike voices I've ever heard in a C-drama. Actually childlike and not just high-pitched.

Personally, I don't mind this type of FL if their characterization makes sense within the fictional universe, so I will still finish this drama. I'm just saying the hype is surprising, considering it contains a character type that is often hated/complained about in a C-drama 😆

That also applies to many SFLs but people like to hate them anyway 🤣

It's interesting you found her awesome in Heroes. I remember its comment section on kisskh being full of negativity and even mockery towards Yang Chaoyue's acting, her role and her face. It felt like every time a new episode came out, there were always a couple of viewers who had a problem with her for all kinds of reasons. I only watched a few episodes of Heroes, so I couldn't judge whether they were right or not.

There's a behind-the-scenes video clip from this drama that shows the actors filming a kissing scene. If I understood correctly, they didn't like how it turned out, so they replaced it with a hug instead.

Liu Yuning has an upcoming drama called A Journey to Love that might have a kissing scene. If you google 一念关山 亲吻, you can see leaked pictures of it. I really hope this time, we get a proper kiss scene with this actor.

I think they cut it because it didn't come out well. There's a video clip showing the cast shooting a kissing scene at first but the director and actors didn't seem satisfied with it, then they decided to film a hugging scene instead.

Do the female characters contribute to the plot or do they only exist as love interests? I really like stories with mixed gender friendship groups where everyone is equally important to the plot and romance takes a backseat. I'm hoping this drama has exactly that.

Why not keep the negativity where it comes from? Many of us don't have Weibo and can't do anything about the hate anyway 🤷‍♀️ It doesn't affect us international viewers until someone mentions it here.

From what I've seen on the Chinese side of the internet (with the help of a translator!), part of the audience has very specific expectations for the appearance of actors and actresses who appear in fantasy dramas. They poke fun at anyone who does not live up to these expectations.

I've seen Chinese netizens say that Ren Min is cute and pretty in modern styling but she doesn't suit historical styling.

This drama has one of the best first episodes I've ever seen in C-drama land! The camerawork, sound design and use of effects like slow-motion and rewind were superb. The change from the warm and sweet atmosphere to the constant tension was really well-done.
