How's this so far? I don't really want to watch another loser by himself ML for the 50th time but a partnership…
It's really good so far. It's a very mature relationship.
Here's a quick summary for you based on the 13 episodes out so far:
The past: 10yrs ago, FL parents and her whole town (100 thousand people) were massacred (burn to death) by an army. On the night of the massacre, FL fought with one of the people setting the fire and the guy dropped a token. It was a token of General Webei's army. (ML is General Webei). So FL vowed revenge on the General.
On that same night, the remaining people of the town attcked the ML army, killed some of them and crippled the ML. So for 10 yrs the ML was in a wheelchair. (Well, he was only crippled for 3years. The rest of the seven years he was pretending) He became known as the General who massacred a whole town. The ghost general.
FL tried to kill him, but failed because she wasn't a fighter. So she joined a shadown assassin group that trained her to become a killer for 10 yrs. And her one mission is to take revenge on ML by killing him. Unbeknown to her, ML is the head of the shadow assassin group. He was training her to kill him. And everytime she fails in her mission to kill him, he poisoned her.
Present: Her current mission is to kill the ML in court, infront of the king. He wanted her to kill him in court because then the assassination attempt will at least help open the investigation into the massacre that happened 10yrs ago. Because it would be seen as FL taking revenge for her people. So the king would want to know what really happened back then.
However, while she's on the mission, she learned that ML is not really the one who massacred her whole town. (Ep 3) So she proposed to work with him. She agress to become his pawn, be bis blade, so they can find the real culprit. Keep in mind, she still doesn't know that he's the leader of the shadow assassin group that trained her. (Poisoned her). Anyway, they are now working together to uncover the truth about back then.
The ML and FL are both a mix of crazy and soft. One moment they are having a nice time and the next, they are threatening to kill eachother, knives at eachothers throat 😂
They have an evenly balanced relationship so far. One person is not more into the other. It's a relationship built firstly on trust before anything else. (Lol though he still hasn't told her that he ran the organization that trained her). They are both at the same stage of figuring things out, because for 10yrs, they have lived for nothing but revenge. But the sweet moments are equally done by both. She believes in him as a good person, even when the whole world says otherwise. He does everything to save her from death. She restores his mothers painting and got him to read the last message from his mother before she died (this is very important) he finds a doctor to cure her tastebuds (she can't taste anything since the fire). Many more of this give and take... Anyways, all this to say their relationship is easily balanced. One person is not more into it than the other. They are both equally yoked.
The one thing I like about this drama is how straightforward it is. There's no wasting time on petty misunderstandings. The FL doesn't try to play "hero." She just wants her revenge. She believes and trusts in the ML and they share information equally, even though she's his pawn.
I think they softened Murong Jinghe's character too quickly🥹
You are right. But also, I like how they are doing it. He got "soft" but not so soft that he lost his sense of purpose. He just went back (a little bit) to who he was before the tragedy.
And his bad guy persona is for outsiders. He still retains that

Right!! That whole conversation afterwards was so sad. It seemed like he's kinda given up on life at this point... not on revenge, bit just on life... The little light he had in his life when Mei Lin came into his life seems to now be extinguished... that moment has really messed with his brain. I can't wait to see how Mei Lin will help him overcome his mental state.
But yea, I wasn't expecting that. It was a huge surprise. Because, like you said, cdramas always try to make the ML perfect or close to it. I don't think there's ever been a ML depicted like this in recent memory?? (Remind me?).
This is why this drama feels so fresh...yes, it has the general clichés here and there, but they never do what you expect them to do. Lol since the beginning, everything we expect has been the opposite. I'm always nicely suprised!

The scene of him realizing it...then the flashbacks... him thinking he's about to go through the safe sufferings of the past, again... that scene was gut wrenching for me. 😭😭

What an amazing actor LXY is. That (particular) moment was so wrenching to watch. He played it so well. Poor MRJ... His poor dignity. Aww the poor man. I felt so bad for him😭

We are only 13 episodes in and so much has happened... The plot is plotting, okay. Lol
Gotta admit, because the previews pissed me off, and in my impatience, I kinda skimmed through these two episodes (just watched the ML and FL parts) so I can quickly get a resolution. Now that I know how each episodes ends, I'm satisfied and will go back and properly watch ep 12 and 13 again😅
The SML actor is a pretty cool and funny guy outside of the play. If he was able to portray a crazy obsession…
lol don't know if you've caught up with latest episodes, but SML is actually evil... lol he just dresses it up as "trying to do the right thing"
But in his quest to forcefully take what's not his, he has join hands with the bad side and committed a terrible act. Then framed someone else. lol he's the delusional kind of evil character 💀
What I really love about this drama is that the plot is fast paced, the characters are making decisions in line…

Exactly!! And that is the one main reason I fell in love with this show! Also, the fact that the characters make decisions based on their established personalities and who they've shown to be.
