Mei Lin is a "beauty" from Xiyan. I guess a beauty is like a "pleasure" girl, not marriage material. that's why they get distributed to different houses of the nobels.
However, Murong Jing wants Mei Lin to be received as a concubine when she's sent to his house. This is elevating her status, giving her more rights, so she won't just be a "beauty" In a way, he is protecting her.
Ep 10 was so funny, I enjoyed watching it. Him sitting at the balcony and laughing at her trying to dance was too funny. Every time he gave his little laugh, I laughed too. He just does those crazy smirks/ laughs so wellðŸ˜... And that whole scene afterwards was too funny 😂

The reason he wanted her to assassinate him in court/in front of everyone is because it might help open the investigation into what really happened 10yrs ago (which everyone thinks it's the ML fault; massacred 10 thousand people) since it was FL town that was massacred.
But all this was before she found out he wasn't the mass murderer and they started working together and trusting eachother. So it might be a big conflict once she finds out because by then, they would already be in a relationship.

But, what FL character was a strong FL, and an assassin who was so feared by kingdoms, before RRY? And so well written till the end? It wasn't just that you heard she was "the best" (which a lot of cdramas tend to do with their strong FL) you saw her in action being the best assassin.

Ren Ru Yi (played by Lu Shi Shi) from AJTL is one of THE BEST written FL in cdrama land. She was an assassin that took down kingdoms. Kings tremble when they heard her name. Lol she was like the boogeyman😠She was bad azz from beginning to end. No other FL so far has come close to touching her.
Don't get me wrong, I love the FL characters in both this show and The Double. They are strong characters and are nicely written. BUT both don't even come close to comparing with the FL in AJTL. It's been almost a year since AJTL came out and, imo, no other shows FL has come close to being as bad azz as she is.

Lol but his voice is not supposed to be menacing. It's supposed to be exactly what you described. His speech is draggy, slow, sarcastic and nonchalant because that's how he presents himself to the world: as a careless person who's a mass murderer, and tired of the world. Lol.
Don't know how far you've watched, but his speech changes when he talks to those close to him. Or when he's not putting on a facade, he talks normal.
Both ML and FL dubbed themselves. It's their real voice!!
