I'm enjoying the story so far. The actors are doing their job well. The story is enjoyable and settling in well. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

This is the first time I've watched the FL actress and I gotta say, she's really beautiful. I didn't notice until ep 8. I like the makeup on her. She has a round, unique face that's really beautiful. I hope the industry don't make her lose it and make her look like everyone else.

Everyone and their mama decided to release a new show this month...omg😭 This is a very busy october. EVERYTHING is coming out this month and I'm so scared I won't be able to watch it all. The competition is about to be fierce.💀😭

Her voice in itself doesn't bother me. It's the fact that it doesn't seem to fit the character she's playing. It was very jarring in the beginning...

While I understand what you are saying, cdrama industry is different. Most of these actors don't really have much say in what they play in. The studios decide for them. And in their industry, if you want to "make it" you have to follow the studio ideas for you.

Unfortunately, unless they've become really really successful where they don't need backers anymore, they have to shut up and go with the flow.

Exactly this! To me, the miscarriage/ evil stepmom setting up step daughter is such a common trope in cdramas that I didn't even notice or pay attention to it. I figured we will find out the truth later.

But anyway, imagine my surprise when I came on here and everyone saying this show stole the idea from The Double, and keeps comparing it to the double🫠

Now don't get me wrong, I loved The Double. But is it the first cdrama to come out?? Have there never been other dramas before it with that trope??🙄 The comparison is getting annoying and it's making even people like me who loved The Double, starting to hate the damn show because of its annoying fans. 😒

Love Better Than Immortality. (I think this was one of Zhao Lusi's first show when she started acting).

Lol you will definitely love the chemistry in this one. It's utilized well... One moment they are calling eachother brother and sister, the next moment, the ML is kissing her 😂😂 It's quite a fun story.

I can definitely see how that show made her famous. It was a role well played and the story was interesting.

Lol I kept putting off watching it for a while because of how long it was and also I didn't like the poster on Viki (lol petty, I know😭) But then I finally watched it last year and omg was I glad I did... I really liked that story and so far I have watched it two more times 😭

I think for me it's because the "stepmom framing step daughter" theme is a common trope in many cdramas that I might have gotten used to it and didn't really notice it...

Oh yes, the mother daughter relationship is so sweet and cute. I hope it stays that way

But yes, even though I'm enjoying the story, this is the first time a FL voice is really getting to me😭 Though she seems smart and intelligent so far, her voice seems too childlike for the role? Usually I can tolerate childish voice, but I don't know why this is getting to me. Maybe it's just not meshing for the role😭

I will try to bear it though, since I'm enjoying the story so far.

I see people comparing this to The Double... Now, while I love that show, I absolutely do not see the comparison with this. This is VERY DIFFERENT in every way. I've tried to look for what you guys are saying, but I'm just not seeing the comparison...

If anything, this show is giving me The Story of Ming Lan vibes... The way the household is setup is definitely Ming Lan... And I'm enjoying it so far.

Maybe it's because The Double is fresh in yall minds that's why you guys are seeing it in every show? Lol.

Anyways, remeber, comparison is the thief of joy. Watch this show and enjoy it for what it is. Let it be its own show and find its footing.

Yes, there's always a smoothening filter and a overly white filter added to cdramas. And most times this make the characters look pale. Sometimes you can't even see the tears when they cry💀

Lol their beauty standards are very high, and sometimes unrealistic... So no wrinkles out of place, or looking disheveled.😭

Actually, this story does not give The Double's vibe at all. It feels more like The Story of Ming Lan. (The grandmother, the concubine being favored over the main wife, the spoiled concubine daughter, the passive dad who just loves the concubine...)

Lol well sometimes, dramas are filmed years before they are aired. Same themes can't be helped... it's just how the industry operates.

Also, I really love The Double, (one of my favorite show this year), but smart FLs did not start with that show. When we are talking about smart FL, she's not even the first to come to mind, so I'm not really seeing the comparison here.

How long have you been watching cdramas?? and how many have you watched so far?? You are basically describing MOST themes present in cdramas and attributing it only to The Double. That's unfair. If you watch cdramas, you should know these are general themes.

The Double did not invent them, they just followed many themes that has been done before. They just happen to do it slightly better.

There's nothing new under the sun. You just have to try and look at it from a fresh perspective

Have you seen the teaser for ep 5 &6??? Omg it looks like things are getting more and more interesting. The story really sets in and we learn more. Those teasers got me really excited!!

Lol no, I don't think so. I think it's because the show is genuinely not that good.

It's a famous novel that got adapted and the adaptation really bad and far from the novel (which is expected). Many shows do this and pull ot off well. But this show just strayed too far and didn't pull it off well, I guess.

The main example is what they did to Pei Yan character. In the novel, he was a complex person. He was never obsessed with the FL. He was formidable and to be reckoned with. He was a master strategist. "Love" was not his main focus. He was never obsessed with the FL. And this really was his story way more than the ML. But the show turned him into an obsessive creep with no substance, and worst of all I heard they gave his lines (from the novel) to the ML to make the ML look good. (Nothing against the actual actor).

Also, they added unnecessary plot lines that just never hit a climax point. So, of course, people are not going enjoy the show when things are changed so drastically for the worse.

Lol it seems you really are the only one here so far. Lol I think the cgi is good (other than the dogs). I quite like the cinematography and the fight scenes.

It's okay if you don't like it. Not all dramas are made for everyone. You will find yours soon!
