Just finally caught up to ep 18 and this show is really getting better the more it progress. Finally, all the characters have settled into their roles quite nicely and executing their characters well. The storytelling have picked up (it wasn't really slow before but since we were still getting to know the characters, it seemed like the plot wasn't moving) but that's changed now. I really like how all of the characters are written so far, so props to writers!
One thing I really love about this show is how the misunderstanding btw ML and FL wasn't used as a plot point and dragged out. It was resolved in the same ep and we moved on to more pressing things. Again, props to writers and director!
I gotta say ZZ is getting quite annoying with his straight laced self. Lol. I watched the teaser for the next two eps and it seems he will cause a lot of trouble for XW. I like ZZ but damn he's making it hard to root for him just cause he won't get off his high horse😩 But I'm excited for new episodes!!
Side note: I see a lot of people on here mentioning WOL. I'm currently watching it too, and yes, it's really good. I'm glad we all like it!

Lol a lot of people on here misunderstands the FL because they forgot what her character is like/her motivations and ambitions before meeting ML.
People tend to forget the FL is scheming and cunning all because she's all lovey-dovey with ML, and this is not right. Just cause she flirted doesn't mean she should loose sight of who she is. Even the ML knows this and this is the best thing about their relationship. they are BOTH scheming people and never try to change each other. The only difference is the ML wears his heart on his sleeve while the FL is more guarded so people see her "scheming" more and tend to forget that ML is the same.
Trust, once you look past the "romance" of this show, you will greatly love the FL and the couple. They compliment each other well. This show is a character driven story and not just romance. Every character is selfish and have their own reasons even more so ML. Lol you will see as the story progress.
Okay yall I just caught up to ep 18 and I'm really more impressed by the progression of this story. Ep 17 qnd 18 were so good... The storytelling just keeps getting better and better and our characters are all fully developed at this stage. I love that the writers spent a good time in the beginning developing our characters traits/motivations and letting us understand who these people are esp our ML and FL.
This greatly helped us in understanding every decision they make and why. Esp with ep 15/16. I feel like it would have gone horribly wrong if we didn't understand where our characters were coming from. This is good storytelling. Lol I'm not going to lie, I like it a little bit more when ML and FL are always trying to one-up each other than when they are all lovey-dovey. (Don't get me wrong I like the lovey-dovey too) but it's just more exciting to see them scheming against each other. That's when we get some of their BEST flirting moments. It's so funny. This is why I found ep 16 a little boring, but ep 17 brought it back and my favorite scheming couple is back. Lol. Li Ni yelling "I'm going to marry you" was so endearing. I really love the growth of their relationship.
I'm so sad the Consort died. But she dies for a great cause. Now that Sun Ling have is defeated (for now) and the capital reclaimed, I'm guessing we are about to get into a new era. The more political side of things. I'm looking forward to it!

I feel like the emperor sets this all up to control the Xue Family (his uncle) and get him to stop trying to kill the whole Yan clan for now. cause he fell "sick" just at the right time. He is letting them set themselves up for a downfall
The emperor doesn't want to execute the Yan family that's why he had said Xie Wei will protect them at the coming of age ceremony. He knows if the Yan clan dies then the country will fall cause the Yans control the military. He doesn't want that. But at the same time he doesn't want to openly support them because his mother and uncle (Xue family)

I'm actually not one of those fans that think romance is the end all or be all in a show. If you look at most of my comments on MDL, you will notice for each shiw I comment on, I focus on storytelling and how ML or FL adds to it. And the overall story.
So when I say ZLH was treated like a secondary character in MJTY, I mean in every aspects of the storytelling. I wasn't really even interested in the romance in that show. ZLH character wasn't that developed, they always made him act dumb and do stupid things while the Gong brothers were always the smart ones. That's aside, the Gong brothers felt more like MLs than ZLH. It's the way the script was written so I don't blame the actors. Go back and rewatch with critical eyes and you will see

In the beginning, the story is fast paced, but slow moving at the same time. A lot is happening, but nothing seems to be happening either because we were still getting introduced to the characters and their motivations. There were also learning more about her previous life, so to some people, this slow moving plot might ne a turn off. But I promise, it gets better, this is why I waited until after 10 episode to comment. I actually like how we are slowly introduced to the all the characters that are going to be major players in the show and their motivations and ambitions. It makes for great storytelling!
I enjoy FL character and her interactions with everyone. This is one of those shows were though I look forward to her interacting with ML, I am more excited and look forward to see her interact with others and how she handles everything. I really like how FL character is written. Props to the writers for making her her own person that we love and not just an extension of ML. I am really enjoying where this story is going so far. Lol ML is jealous...😂

Just caught up to ep 12 (8-12) and I am really liking this show. The storytelling is so absorbing. When I heard some eps were cut from this show, I was scared the editing was going to be bad. BUT let me tell yall, I am so surprised at how good this show is. All the characters have settled into their roles quite nicely.
The characters are starting to lose people close to them and I'm excited to see how this will play into their character developments. All the characters are complex and have their own individual selfish goals/reasons. Nobody is perfect. And that's the beauty of this show. I really like how the writers wrote each characters and how their actions defines their character traits. Amazing pacing overall. Again, I gotta give props to the writers and director!
One thing I don't think we talk about enough is the cinematography of this show. The cinematography is absolutely beautiful and well executed. Every action and movement is well executed by the cameras and actors, making for a seamless transition between scenes. The scene in ep 12 where FL and young master Cui were ambushed, that whole scene was done very well. From the start of the scene were the enemy raised an arrow gate to lock them in, to FL fighting with her shield (OKAY CAPTAIN AMERICA!! lol) and every cut that follows after that was well executed and smoothly done. I have watched that whole sequence like 3 times already!
The actors, writers and director are all doing an excellent job. I can't wait to see how our characters actions define them in the future! This show is quick becoming my all time favorite after TMOPB. (Lol trust, this is a lot for me to admit cause nothing has ever come close to my love for TMOPB).
Side note: I am starting to really like the Consort character. Again, I am always happy to see our favorite mountain bandits!!

Their character development so far is on the right track. Main thing to pay attention to in this show is not only the romance, but the character's traits/motivations, drive ambitions, and motives for doing what they do. This is what makes the FL and ML who they are. NOT the romance. Their traits is who they are, romance is second (for now). Don't forget this while watching because if not you will end up being angry at FL in ep 8.

Okay, so I see a lot of people on here complaining about FL and her deceiving ML in ep 8. I think you guys are really forgetting who she is because she was being all lovey-dovey with ML. The way the FL acted in ep 8, that is her CORE CHARACTER TRAITS. That is who she is since the beginning. She has never deviated from being the scheming, plotting, and cunning person who does something to get what she wants. THIS IS THE ESSENCE OF HER CHARACTER. She's all about winning glory for her family and does whatever it takes. Don't forget, the only reason why she became "so nice and agreeable" is because of the old couples death. (She feels responsible) But she has always been this way. This is the person the ML fell in love with and he knows and accepts that because he's the same way.
Her character traits is what makes us fell in love with her in the beginning anyway. It is too early in the show for her to change herself just because she flirted with ML. Any drastic change on her part this early will be UNREALISTIC and not good for her character development. So I'm glad the writers are not making her change herself all of a sudden!
This is a character driven story. I hope we can all look past the romance and try to understand the characters more. Try to understand how characters act and interact with each other and the consequences, instead of just focusing on the love story.
