Basically my impression of this drama is the same as JMaia's review.

I have to say.... episode 6 has a kiss scene in it so electric I've come back to watch it several times since first seeing this drama. It's not even that long or that racy, it's just HOT. YZX is one of the best onscreen kissers I know of, and Lu Yan Qi is an awesome actress.

Chemistry between leads is flat, kisses are tame. Plot's premise is fine, but pacing is all wrong, leaving big gaps of boring between story developments. I gave it a 6.

Yes yes, there's some "racy" scenes, but nothing can save the fact that the actors are being very self-conscious and conservative about their kiss scenes, and they don't have that basic electric tension that a good onscreen couple has. For instance, compare this kiss-in-the-tub scene with the one from Taking Love As Contract, and there's just no comparison.

why do people like The Untamed so much if it's not a romance? Just to totally change the subject, lol...

Hard to tell from the last 15-20 mins of the drama, but it seems like basically she dies at the end of epic bloody battle, in his arms. He finally admits he was a total dick and he loves her and stuff. And then the narration SAYS he "chose to go with her" or something. But what they show is a flashback to their first time in the woods together on Wolf Mountain, they don't show him dying.

It looks like one of those dramas where it's first-half-romance, second-half painfest. But it wasn't THAT bad of an ending. It had awesome music, the ending song sounds like it was partially plagarized from NaShow's 'Auditory Hallucination' (which was the song from Kill Me Heal Me ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_pobOGOXDg ), but that was kind of a good thing because that song rocks. And the way the ending played out has a very old school k-drama feel to it (Autumn Tale, Tree of Heaven, Fashion King, What Happened In Bali).

I'm sure I'd hate it, because I had a very intense passionate 12-year long relationship with a hot sexy man who had Borderline Personality Disorder, and people like that don't trust love, so they test that love over and over until it breaks. So the idea of a dickish man treating a good loving relationship like shit, and not realizing just how much he loves his awesome woman until "its too late" just hits too close to home for me. It reminds me of my ex. People with borderline are always like this. The only way they understand how good the love they had was, is to lose it permanently. It's their idea of romance.

But I was struck by how good the cinematography, soundtrack, and acting was. I'd maybe watch it if I wasn't convinced it falls into that certain romance drama pattern of first-half-romance-second-half-torture.

heeheee its getting to the point now where sometimes I'll just watch the ending of the last episode FIRST, before I decide whether to watch. When you like dark and toxic romances, it's hard to find good endings because the Laws of Asian Drama don't allow happy endings for certain kinds of characters.

gaah... an unhappy ending.... that's what makes me reticent to watch Goodbye My Princess too.

Well I can sympathize in one sense... I didn't get ANYthing out of Lighter & Princess at ALL, chemistry-wise.... and I got lit the f*ck up in the comments for saying so too. I'll never understand what some people see in that drama.

yall should update when the show is finished and let us know final impressions. I don't watch dramas till the last episode is aired, I'm a binge-watch only person.

Do you have any good recc's for dark ML's (besides the obvious TTEOTM)? I'm always looking for more dark, broody intense ML dramas, I just can't get enough of them.

I keep trying to warn people before they start by putting it in comments periodically, and in my review, that this drama has throat grabbing and forced kissing.... I'd rather someone know what they're in store for and skip it if it's not for them, instead of watching it, hating it, and rating it low.

I know some people have personal experiences that make it not-fun to watch such things. But I think you find it more in asian and particularly historical c-dramas, because back then.... as a female, even if you're hot for a guy, you can't be seen as a strumpet or a cheap ho. So you might like it that you're being kissed, but still "put up a fight" because you want to maintain the appearance of virtue.

The throat grabbing I could do without. It's in so many chinese dramas, but not japanese, thai, or korean. Do chinese guys actually do this to women? If some guy tried that on me, I'd promptly smash him upside the head with a frypan.

In your PM's? I found that account, and that bastard has some extremely good dramas on his "dropped" list and rated them a 1. How can you rate a show you didn't even watch. Plus the account is only a month old. It looks like their only function is to try to wreck MDL, skew ratings, and troll other users. What a douche canoe.

Incredible range, he should be in bigger dramas with meatier roles. He's also one fine onscreen kisser, wew lawd.

It might go up as more people discover and watch it. One of the best short-lengths I've seen. Maybe the ending is dragging down the rating?

No, but it has a french kiss in episode 11.

8/10 from me, and I'm a hard grader. Acting was excellent, kisses were fiery, story was on point and not a head-splitter, pacing was comfy. Ending is sad, but sufficiently ambiguous to make you wonder if there will be a part 2 someday.

I totally agree. and I only say "professional capacity" because obvs these jackasses don't know the actor personally is all. But I def respect your standing up for what you believe.

Fuck yes, perfectly stated. Upvoted. Some people are like "oh the chemistry the chemistry".... there wasn't any!!! Just because two people you think are hot are talking to eachother, doesn't mean they have chemistry!

I feel sorry for the actors, because this trainwreck wasn't their fault, and yet they are taking heat for it. The ones who screwed it up were the producers, who have executive control over every aspect of the show. They could have stopped the wardrobe people from dressing Song Kang in a brooch and shoulder pads. They could have fired bad writers and replaced them. They could have changed the tone or direction of the story. They could have overridden bad casting choices. But they didn't, they let the animals run the zoo and it turned into a total mess.
