Any drama as good as this one? I rewatched 4 times already, this one so damn good.
I've seen 300 dramas and there is nothing this good. Only things that can temporarily take my mind off how good this was. Only 10/10 I've ever given out.
I know how you feel, but I'm trying to stay optimistic that maybe industry people will notice how much we love this drama and give us things in the future that are more like it. But basically this is one of the top 3 romances I've ever seen/read in my entire life. And when I say that, this is coming from an oldster (gen X), who loves to watch films/shows and read books, so I've put away a lot of romance stories in my life.
Everything I've watched since just feels like more stupid crap that's not anywhere near as good as SoKP. If I ever find anything even remotely as awesome as this, I will run right to this page and report in about it, because so many of us are stuck re-running this because we can't get over how good it was.
Xie Wei is probably the hottest ML character I've ever seen.
This was a total waste of time. Every single cliche is in this, and it's completely uninspired. Show me some aspect of this drama that is truly creative and hasn't been done before. You can't. The tertiary characters are forgettable, predictable, inane. Way way too long, given it's story arc. Lots of filler moments.
The best aspect of this drama is that there IS fiery chemistry between ML and FL, but it's spread so thin.... who wants to watch that many hours of brain-numbing crap just for a few moments of kilig and spice. Not worth my time.
The plot was not bad, the production value was not bad, costume/styling was not bad. But there is a distinct lack of spice/kilig/angst. The (few) kiss scenes were decent, but nothing crazy good. Same goes for the ML/FL chemistry. The story as written doesn't leave any room for real romance.... the romance is just the cherry on the action-story sundae, it's an afterthought. And the acting leaves a lot to be desired -- the lack of acting skills on the part of most of the characters is what gives this drama a distinct cheesy-flavor. I gave it a 6 because if you have nothing else at all to watch, it's an okay way to pass the time, but I wouldn't ever recc it to anyone.
It's another Leo Yang vehicle basically, and not even the best one I've ever seen. Undercover Affair is way better than this.
Considering my tastes, should I watch this, does it have enough spice/fire in it for me?
okay okay okay okay. fine. after healer, i'll start this one. It can't be any worse than the crap i've been slogging through. I feel like I've seen everything and now i'm just rummaging the bargain basement bins. But that's what happens after SoKP gives you brain damage i guess.
Watching for the first time now..... really hard to get over how the BGM is totally out of step with the drama and what the scenes are conveying, like the music director was doing Absinthe shots with NyQuil chasers and huffing Febreeze.
Haven't watched yet.... question for those who finished---->
So she got 10 years for killing her domestic abuser in self defense? What message is that sending, that if you are a battered wife, you should just put up and shut up until one day you get killed and it's too late? That's so unbelievably misogynistic I just can't even.
Is that how this story goes down?
If so, does anyone know what recourse abused spouses actually have in china right now if they find themselves in a situation like that? In America, you're not supposed to get prison time for self-defense, but sometimes battered women do get some jail time, when they can't prove it was actually self defense. So like, if your husband comes at your face with a golf club, and you stab them with a kitchen knife right then and there, you could get no time. But if he comes at you with a golf club, you take the beating, and then two days later you snap and beat him to death in his sleep, you CAN get jail time because you were in no immediate danger.
In america they would say things like "well you can always leave" and there are resources for battered women, like domestic violence shelters that will house you and keep your whereabouts secret while you make your plans to leave for good. They aren't always great options, but they are there. So that's how they justify saying a battered woman has no excuse for premeditated murder.
Even in our country, there are cases you sometimes hear where REAL justice was not served, and the wife gets way too much jail time, but it's not really supposed to happen that way. But I have no idea how it is in china if you find yourself stuck with an abusive spouse. Anybody have any info on that? What is it like in other countries?
In this drama, was it self defense, or premeditated? Did she have other options for getting away from him?
I'm taking a big break, after I'm done with maybe 1 or 2 more dramas, I'm going to do my fourth rewatch. I don't…
I don't mind them at all.... reminds me of my favorite ex bf.... yumalicious. Think of it this way. Number one, he has the snow madness. Number two, and more importantly. They come from a different time, where if a woman is too forward or too bold or not reserved or shy enough, she is seen basically as a harlot. They were a super repressed culture as far as liberation of female sexuality. SOMETIMES the woman fights off the man, not because she doesn't want him, but because she can't bring herself to be seen as easy, or to let go of herself. If the man forces her, then her conscience is clear, and then she can relent. The responsibility for the episode is then entirely on him, and not her. And no one can accuse her of being cheap or easy or slatternly or what have you.
But what did kind of bother me was the throat-grabbing. I can tolerate it because this is my all time favorite drama. But I don't like the tendency in c-dramas for the male to grab the females throat. It's not something i'd EVER let a boyfriend get away with doing. If he tried that shit even once, I'd be like "I don't care if it's a month from now, or a year from now, or ten years from now.... you try that shit one more time, and we are over." For me that's real culture shock right there. In my culture, that's not flirting with a woman, that's flirting with a restraining order is what that is.
i just successfully rewatched itthis is my first time rewatching a whole drama like i usually only rewatch a specific…

I highly recommend seeking medical treatment for your visual impairment. Further, past his god given features…
As I like to say.... an MDL page is not a fan page, people. So you can take your moral outrage and shove it right up your hot-pot.
Sometimes I think to myself "This is what you get when you have to randomly interact with 14yo's all the time." But covert narcs share this space with us too, I'm sure.
In any case, I don't like to let bullies get away with their bullying without at least calling them out on it when I see it. Because I want this site to remain a space where you can get balanced opinions and views on shows, and not turn into some rabies-ridden, teenager infested fanpage, where dissenters get slaughtered on sight by gangs of hormonal girls like a female version of Lord of the Flies.

6.5 for effort.

I'm finishing Healer rn. After that, if I can't find a fresh cheap trashy short-length c-drama to watch, I'll start this I SUPPOSE.
I need spice, people!!! Maybe..... this has kilig? Good kilig is almost as good as good spice.

These assholes need pushback.
