Xia Jing Yan got a redemption arc, and Qi Min won't tho.... he's messed with his own kid, something Jing Yan didn't do. Qian Qian will never fall in love with him and he won't be "misunderstood", he's just gonna get shanked by somebody, the only question is who. Possibilities: Qian Qian, his own son, his brother, Xie Zheng, Chang Yu.

Strongest possibility is QianQian, but I don't think she should have to do something so icky like become a murderer over that loser. Let someone else do the dirty work. Maybe she can chase him off a cliff but only for real tho, where he actually goes THUD.

The things Jing Yan did were so bad that he had to sacrifice his life in exchange for his redemption. Qi Min can't pay his debts even with that.

aiyaaa... listen if you haven't watched a lot of c dramas, then welcome, first off. But lemmetellyasomethin. FOR THIS GENRE, that scene was over the top, and you would be hard-pressed to find anything like it in another c-drama where it is THIS explicit, and involving manipulation and duress, and with an irredeemable villain. There are certain standards c-dramas have, it's just the way it is. And within each genre. like wuxia, xianxia, historical romance, ceo romance, short-length historical romace, short-length republican era romance, mystery, comedy, etc etc, there are these unwritten but obvious rules for things.

Irredeemable villains don't get super sexy bathtub scenes. This was over the top, as in I challenge anyone to find something equivalent in a feature length a-list historical romance c-drama. Or indeed any c-drama. It can't be done. Because this kind of thing is never done.

Later years from now after this is all over anytime anyone says "pursuit of jade" it's gonna be like "wew that bathtub scene tho..."

you can't jinx it, it's already in the can. we shall see if last half holds up. this is where we usually get burned by our dramas. I remain skeptical, but honestly I will put up with a LOT just to get a good angry Ling He and a fierce kiss-like-you-mean-it kiss.

You tell me of other A) full length B) A-lister director C) big productions, where two people are not in love and doing toxic things to eachother emotionally, one or both of them are morally irredeemable, and are in an intimate scene together where it's portrayed as this racy, with explicit shirt-off scenes.

I'm not saying it's over the top by MY standards. I'm saying it's over the top by OBJECTIVE standards of c-dramas that have come before it.

I thought it was meh, but with nice palace intrigue plot and great production value. Some people totally in love with that ML, so generated a lot of attention.

it's over the top. I'm not complaining though. Deng Kai is so so hot, and he deserves the attention.

I don't want them to redeem him at this point, as much as i love the visuals and chemistry and acting. The things he did are now beyond forgiveness, because he's passed SO MUCH trauma onto his child in such a short span of time.

Call out users by name, or else none of this makes any sense. Youre lumping everyone together like the whole group is just one person with one set of standards and one set of thoughts.

You can't call a group this sized hypocritical or double standard, because it's a huge group consisting of tons of different people with different opinions and reactions. It's not like the group is a single entity.

And when I say 'you can't', I mean you CAN obvs, but it doesn't make any sense.

I don't think they'll let the lead villain have more sexy screentime than the MLFL.

Why is this one of the only times in c-dramaland - out of all the love scenes, sexy scenes, out of all the plots - that there's a bath makeout scene with no undershirt happening. That is absolutely gratuitous. I mean I LIKE GRATUITOUS DENG KAI. A lot. But to say the scene wasn't intimately filmed, or sexualized, is just i mean come on.

I think she's smart for playing along too, in fact if it was me, I would have been playing along since the restaurant visit like TAKE ME WITH YOU.

In the "her body her choice" sense, MAYbe you have a point. But the grand picture is that at the end of the day, she is being held against her will, and her son's life is being threatened. That's not exactly "choice". That's more of a survival strategy than a *true* free choice. She's a hostage.

There are other ways they could have stylized that sequence that would have made it less sexayyyyyy.

The point I'm trying to make, is not that it WAS romantic or it WASNT romantic, but that the WAY IT WAS FILMED was to enhance sexiness and there were other ways it could have been filmed that could have given more glossing over to the intimate aspects of the scenes LIKE FOR EXAMPLE SHIRTS. Or more gauze curtain and less SEXY HALF NEKKID DENG KAI.

It does send mixed signals to the audience.

I don't mind that it does that. But I can see why some people do mind.
