The whole drama is divided so neatly into the ML/FL story and the 2ML/2FL story that you could skip the entire 2ML/FL part and still be able to follow along with the plot. Which some might see as a flaw and others might see as a feature.
AESTHETIC - The personal stylists showed RESTRAINT. They made ML/FL up to look gorgeous, but not so much that you can actually see the foundation or powder, its not cakey or gaudy or overdone. They don't look raw and frumpy, and yet they don't look painted. They just look fresh, clean, a nd sexy. Her hair is plain, but the cut is gorgeous on her. No barettes or stupid 'do, no tragic short coconut cut, no weird sweepy bangs... simple and sexy like a rock star. THEIR WARDROBE compliments their figures, it is simple and hawt af. The backdrops are plain and to the point.
All this adds up to a show that will stand up to time. In 10 or 20 years, this drama will still be just as hot as it is right now. That is a FEAT.
CHEMISTRY - Off. The. Hook. These two totally went for it and showed no camera consciousness. BRAVO u guys. You lit it up like a fuckin christmas tree. Hell yeah.
SOUNDTRACK - Finally.... FINALLY an OST that RÖCKS😎. I have waited so long for you.
TONE - Sexy and funny do NOT mix well. How many times have you watched a drama that was juuuuust about to be hella sexy and then they add some dippy sound effects, the side characters show up and act like moronic hams, or the ML or FL suddenly ruin the mood by saying or doing something that stomps on the mood completely. This drama knows not to cheapen the mood they worked so hard to create by trying to add levity where its not needed or wanted.
Y'know what else kills a sexy mood, is an overbearing plot. This has just enough plot but not too much. The storyline is good. Its not embarassinlgy simple or scanty. But it doesnt kill the sexy by becoming too makjang or complex, or veering away from the focus of the ML/FL falling in love.
This is not in ANY way green flag. And nothing about it, from the opening scene on, would give the viewer the false sense that its going to be. What you see is what you will get. There will be throat grabbing, forced kissing, and a morally gray ML. And the tone of the drama matches the romance. Theres no puppies or fluffy sweaters here.
THE VILLAIN - Liu Tian Yang is entrancing. Hes hot, but in a strange way I can't put my finger on. His wardrobe and hair were very well done, and he has a strange, unsettling magnetism and good charisma.I don't know about you, but I hate it when I can't stand the sight of the villain. This villain is intriguing and kinda fine af in his own right.
THE ACTING - Once you know the story, the way they all act makes sense. And when you see it the second time around, you realize just how good the performances really are. Some people criticize the FL's performance. But she is acting the character AS WRITTEN. And if you think its flat?.... Then I'd say yeah but theres NO baby-flirting, NO overacting, NO prudishness or coldness, NO goofyness or awkwardness. So I'll take it, thank you very much. I thought it was well done.
THE PLOT - The story has layers of depth without being heavy-handed. It is a sort of "Stockholm Romance", like I Love My Persident Although He Is A Psycho, or Well Intended Love. Sure some people hate that kind of crap. I LOVE IT. And the WAY he stockholms her is fuckin gorgeous and hot and highly effective. And a story like that is hard to write well. They are also few and far between. The most recent other toxic stockholm romance thats out now tha's any good is Enslaved By Love.... which is way way over the top and contrived. He's using her for target practice with his bow and arrow ffs. In this one, the stockholming is very smooth and sneaky. Super rare, super hot.
THE CHEESE FACTOR - What humor the show does have, comes from its cheese quotient, something I can appreciate. Many many many cult classic shows have just enough cheese to amuse the intellectual viewer, without having so much that it smothers the shows good qualities.
I don't think this is some easily dismissed short length garbagey throwaway drama. I think its effing brilliant. Yes it has huge holes in it. Y'know what else has huge holes in it, swiss cheese. And swiss chese is GOOD.
I plowed through 9 episodes before i realized i would be caught up b4 the show ended, and since im a binge watcher, i had to make myself put it down, but it was hard because its really good for a short-length. Richard Li is awesome as always. I have it on hold til it finishes, but i have a feeling its gonna be an 8 or above from me.

Promotion is just a way of ensuring they make as much profit as they can. But how much money the show nets has nothing to do with how good people think the show is.
With all it's flaws, I liked it better than anything else out at the same time.
Im not even done with it, and i can already tell i wont end up giving it more than 8.5 because its one of the few shows ive watched where its actually better with the sound OFF. I even unmuted it to hear Jerry Huangs scenes, but of course they gave him a voice actor, so I just put mute back on and that way at least I could imagine it with Jerrys real voice.
