Will he fall in love with his own daughter, since his soul is in young man? 🤭🤫🤔
Well if it would be JPN show then who knows 🤭 I'm sure if there will be any romance with the daughter it will be after father is no longer in this guy's body.

Your review is absolutely to the point, but for me I ended up giving it 7. What you wrote is true, I must have just enjoy more than you did, which is fine, this is how reviews and scores works :)

Surprisingly good drama. With that many episodes it is slow paced. Also there is not that many episodes with main leads. I would say that this one review with 4.0 score is very accurate describing the drama (everything Yvin wrote is absolutely accurate) but I gave it a solid 7.

Unfortunately casting Zhang Zi Yi to this role wasn't a good choice. She was 39 when this drama was shoot, and she looks stunning and beautiful but she looks at best late 20/early 30. This bothered me the whole time I was watching it.

This is my first j-drama and I'm honestly super unimpressed. any recs for similar concept shows?
Similar concept I would say would be:
Cinderella at 2 AM - I've dropped it
Business Marriage

Different concept, but would say adjacent theme (and ones I've actually enjoyed):
The Full-Time Wife Escapist
An Incurable Case of Love

jdramas tends to be very "theatric like" when we are talking about aesthetic and that is not what everyone likes. You can take a look at my watchlist and see what JP production I've completed and maybe you will find something for yourself.

I'm on episode 14. It is getting better and better and I'm reading in comments that we are going to big politics/palace in next episodes which is exactly up to my alley.

YX drives me nuts. He is the only heir with no chance (so far) to get a military merit so he needs to step up in some other way to continue the family name but he behaves like a spoiled brat. I wish him the good ending, but he seriously needs to be humbled. The actor is doing great job playing this role :)

GJZ plays such a good character. She is from one side mature, outspoken and confident, from other childish and immature as she should be as 15 year old girl.

Lastly, I just don't se the chemistry with CYY. Maybe it is the age gap, or the actor playing the role but something is off with him and every scene he is in. We all know who he will end up with (and most likely it will be a happy ending), but I already see that I won't like it :)

Overall, except actor playing CYY, everyone is doing a fantastic job portraying their characters.

Edit: And mandatory "what a POS father". I hope he will get what he deserves. The sister is still redeemable for me, as she is just a child, but if she keeps her behavior this way I hope she won't end well.

I'm half way through the drama and I can understand the rating. It is fair MDL rating to be honest. This series lack of some bigger story/hook. The only mystery is about FL and what happened to her family and why she is the only one alive etc. But this is a very week hook so if someone is not interested in the investigation sub-plots, then I can get why they would drop it.

And those criminal stories are also not that great. There is always some coincidence or luck involved or sudden confession . It is fun the first time, ok next one, but by the third time it happens (epidemic) I was facepalming a little bit.

Overall most things don't bother me and I find it very entertaining mainly due to FL lead and partially ML. I like how little romance there is, it suits this show.

For me, this far, it is solid 6.5-7 (which means a good show, way above average), which means MDL score is relatively accurate as far as I'm concerned. Also IMO, this one is worth watching just for Bai Lu if that is your thing.

On Can This Love Be Translated? Apr 27, 2026
I think Youn Jung did a great job and acted perfectly. Unfortunately there is just no chemistry with ML (way more with Hiro but also not that much). Considering where this drama went in the 2nd half, it would be better if it would be "healling drama" instead of "romance drama".
Also why only 12 episodes? There have been so many things just ignored and not explained/covered (mainly with parents for both leads, but also with the brother of with uncle and aunt).
It had a lot potential, production value is there and if you like Youn Jung you will probably like it. For everyone else, it will be a waste of time.
I personally liked it but i didn't love it.

I've enjoyed this one quite a bit until approximately 3/4 of the story when it dragged a little bit and then the ending felt rushed. Last 15 minutes could have been easily a separate full epilogue episode. Waste opportunity in my opinion.
I liked the concept of evil empress that tries to live quiet a normal life but everything around pulls her again in the middle of the state affairs. And that not everything can be changed. Some things, no matter how hard we try will still happen. That were parts of the story I liked the most and that what kept me watching it.
There is just one huuuuuuuuuuuuuge "but". The romance they went with was forced, there was no chemistry at all. Zero. Nothing. For me it was abuse and forced relationship rather than love (some would say unhealthy obsession even). I think it would be best if both leads would get different endings. Still she was an evil empress and he was plotting with the rebels. I was hoping for different, certainly less happy, ending. Those 2 things (romance and the ending itself) severely impacted my final score.

I think you missunderstood a story. In previous life, she was so cunning and it killed her. On second life, she…
Not at the beginning. I wrote it after 10 episodes, she become more cunning and smart later on. I honestly don't like how her character was written. Very uneven across the whole story.

I'm 10 episodes in and it is good, even very good but I have one gripe with it. I was looking for some good "go back in time" series where the knowledge of previous life is used to the advantage of the main character.

I don't see it here. FL is not smart not cunning not does she remeber enough of her previous life to make it relevant for the story. If she wasn't brought back in time, I don't think much would change for this series.

I've pushed it until the end (FW a lot), and it is not getting any better. Wise choice to drop it, should have done it myself sooner but my monkey brain said it will get better... it didn't :)

I am really struggling with this show. More than 10 episodes in and while I think the mystery of the crimes and…
I have only 13 episodes left and ohh man I have the same feeling and came here to rant about that :) . There is just no chemistry between the leads, zero (please don't try to convince me there is, I accept for some people there is, but not for me).
Cases are interesting, this is what keeps me still watching the show, but it is getting a little bit ridiculous that FL is "solve it all" kind of person (part with Empress Dowager is just hilariously illogical and improbable), but still enjoying to watch.
I cringe every time there is a romance/flirting scene between leads and skip all of those (which I never do in other shows). I think this show would work better if there would be no romance and rather some more "arrange marriage" and "family politics" stuff especially of how big exposition FL gets later on.
Also I think ML is just not that handsome (I'm a guy so I accept I'm wrong here :D ). For me it is absolutely horrible casting for the role.

According to google, in Korea you go to high school between age 15 to 18. I don't remember exactly but I don't think they were in the last year which would mean below 18. But that is just semantics. It gave a creepy feeling and that is a fact I cannot change.

It starts great. first episode might be the best first episode of any historical drama I've ever watched. Unfortunately it loses momentum somewhere in the middle and drags a little bit just before the couple final episodes. It is definitely worth watching.
The Emperor's attitude towards First Prince is great, he is trying hard to "mold him to his image" and I like how he tries to do it. It is toxic as hell, but written and played in the way I've really enjoyed it.
And the princess, what a character. She annoyed me with her being so madly in love at the beginning, but at the end she wasn't that naive and was actually smart. That was, for me, the best character growth in the whole series. And the actress is absolutely stunning ,so there is also that :)
Ending itself is too abrupt IMO, but apparently novel is similar in that regard. It is a shame as adding 1 extra episode might add a lot to the rewatch value (at least for me).

This has more BL than bromance vibes and because we are talking about 40+ years old guy and a teenager it just got too creepy for me and I've dropped this one on episode 5.
I have nothing against BL, but not in the setup like this, it was just too uncomfortable to watch.

Also ML behaving like old dude all the time, not even trying to fit in, also got old at the time I've dropped it. Drama had cool idea, but horrible execution. Wouldn't give it more than 3-4/10 but as I didn't finish it, no score on MDL from my side.

I don't recommend it at all. Waste of time. I would rather recommend movie "The Dude in Me", which handled similar idea way better.

I must have gotten too old for high school settings. Fighting scenes were top notch byt everything else just annoyed me too much. Dropped it after 5 episodes. I had similar problem with Weak Hero Class 1, which I've also dropped in the middle of the season.
I just need to accept that I'm no longer a target audience for this stuff :D

But I can see why it has such a high rating. Everyone that enjoys exaggerated or cartoonish productions will most likely enjoy it.

On My Liberation Notes Sep 29, 2025
I don't remember last time having such a big trouble to rate the drama. It is a slice-of-life drama that technically doesn't have a true ending. It just stops at some point giving you hints what will happen in the future. I had to read "the ending" discussion above and it gave me closure I needed.

I still think that telling the story not in the chorological order needs to be done well, and this drama is not example of that. It was forced only to confuse the viewer. The same with time jumps, those are usually easy to do, but if you don't give (for multiple episodes) even the idea how much time might have past (or I've missed it), it is very difficult to relate to what is going on as I didn't know was it months or years. Closer to the end we see it was actually 2-3 years, but this should have been explained sooner, lack of knowing that distracted me from enjoying the drama fully.

Ending was unexpected and I had to digest everything so I'm writing it couple of days after finishing the last episode. It reminded my "My Mister" but it wasn't as good. But at the end, if someone enjoys slice-of-life drama with no real ending, then it is for sure worth watching.

If someone expects a conclusion (like i.e. with My Mister), then they better don't touch it.

It was so good I've binged it in 2 days. It starts very innocent with FL being so positive, open and happy that by the time of the main twist i was caught completely off guard. It gets more depressing and more serious.

This is not an easy nor light drama by any means. It touches some serious and very sensitive problems and, as far as I can tell, does it in a very good way. I didn't like the main romance/triangle, it was unnecessary. Mentor relationship would work way better. I liked the second leads a lot, but the way their story ends was very unsatisfying. I mean, I choose to assume that she will be back to be a nurse (that was at least my impression), but I'm not a fan of such open endings for characters.

It is not for everyone, but if it clicks with you, then it is a gem. And the ending for FL is somehow realistic, which was a big plus (albeit I wonder what would be the reception if they would go full dark and depressing route :) ).

I don't mind what they did with the story but there was absolutely zero chemistry with Hua Rong Zhou. His character was pissing me off every time he was on the screen. As soon as they went with that trope, it was really hard for me to watch and I've FF all scenes with him.
But overall it is rather realistic approach. No do overs, you need to pay for your actions. I like they've done it this way.
