I don’t really care about fanwars, but at this point, this is way beyond normal fandom drama. The comments being…
Deserved. I've been staying off the drama page because it was getting increasingly annoying, but I know you're one of the few objective reviewers on this site based on how many dramas we've seen together. I actually didn't rate it as high as you did lol, but the current average is abysmally unfair so I appreciate a more clear headed opinion.
He's been through worse during the POJ days and what happened afterwards with that drama was how good karma gave back what everyone deserved. So I'll just stand by and wait for another round of fair judgment 😬

LYT is also with this agency and is rumored to have her contract expired with them soon and won't be resigning. So they'll be losing both her and ZLH if he doesn't resign. I've seen that usually if stars intend to resign, they'll do it during the 2 years period before the official date and judging by the crazy behavior of their boss right now, I'm convinced ZLH isn't staying. I actually hope he's learning some tips from LYN on going solo and being his own company.

One of the situations that was being criticized heavily a few weeks back while she was filming the drama with TJC was during a funeral scene where everyone was seen to be serious and immersed in the atmosphere, she was on the side in her funeral clothes joking around and filming dance videos for her douyin. Let's forget for a minute about the backstabbing politics, even just that makes me lose the impression of her as a serious actor. And before all this CiTang drama came about, I've always seen from her past MLs' fans who she's starred with having issues with her fd accusing them of SA, most notably CXX and even dating back to the MJTY day with CL. I'm afraid of what smear campaigns they'll try to attack Linghe with this time. He already has it bad enough without them adding fuel to the fire.
I just saw posts on Weibo and Xiaohongshu claiming that a Lu Yuxiao's fan is threatening to throw sulfuric acid…
Did you see the TXW cfan who wished him death too? People love calling ZLH’s fans this and that name but turn a blind eye to his costars’ toxic fans’ behavior
I'm beyond happy to be honest that he chose this drama and this script,it really showcased his acting , even though…
Yes, any drama that gives his character a full arc without unfairly cutting his scenes to prop up other people's plots is a win in my book. And the ending is not so bad if you stew on it for a bit. Due to the Republican era being such a tumultuous time period, I don't think they'll be received well if they romanticized it with a happy ending. That's why 99% of them ends tragically. I think the OE leaves a lot of room for interpretation though, depending on which direction you want to lean.
I'm glad to hear that he's been getting praise. I agree too, Overdo >>> POJ in terms of his acting skills…
Yeah, there's a large echo chamber from the critics who hate it here so it might feel otherwise, but this drama has its own cult following domestically. There were already leaks about a BE circulating online around 7/29, and most audience nowadays aren't into tragedy so it makes sense some people started drifting off. Given the angsty nature and the Republican theme dramas being already a very niche genre, let alone an idol romance centric one, this actually had a great start. The reason why we don't see very many of these made is because they're not usually profitable. It's only sometime when they're big IPs with detective, mystery thriller centric, or mainstream theme led by big name veteran actors that they take off.
Another thing is the producer of this drama was going for that viral short drama effect where a lot of scenes from Overdo can be easily made into short edits that have major appeal with the Douyin demographics. This audience is usually the main pusher of a drama's popularity. Unfortunately, they never foresaw that Tencent and Douyin would have a falling out. So basically all fanmade videos were getting taken down or shadow banned as soon as they get high views and likes. ZLH also had organized hate campaigns targeted at him and this drama as soon as it aired which drove away a lot of casual viewers who didn't care to look deeper. (I hope TRTG crew learn from all this and prepare some counter measures beforehand, but seeing how they just left ZLH to deal with all the hate during POJ by himself, I won't count on it.)
If you consider all that and look at Overdo's current data, it's doing just fine. Everyone is actually astounded by its commercial endorsements right now. The number of ads it's getting is insane, there's so much buzz around it. You know capitalists aren't stupidly building charity businesses. They see the real backend data in order to decide to invest or not.
And this was never a huge production like those gossip mongers were trying to make it out to be. It was just an A+ project by a newbie production house that ZLH signed with before POJ even aired and his popularity exploded. So people unfairly bashing it for its special effects, expecting James Cameron level work is 🙄. Also, all that talk about big marketing is also misleading. The reason it got so much hype was because the paparazzi leaks of Linghe and WCR went viral so hard on Douyin when they were filming. Heck, this crew didn't even have a trailer prepared for the iQIYI dramas conference back in April when everybody else did. They're actually reaping all the profits right now for doing practically nothing.
No doubt about is acting - he is a great actor but the story let him down in my opinion :( I hope he doesn't collaborate…
I don't agree about the story/script. Even though the director was inconsistent, he wasn't terrible. I've seen a lot worse. This director's biggest fault is he doesn't oversees his own projects after filming wraps and just hops right into a new drama.
What it came down to was that the producer thought they were being on trend by trying to market it like short dramas and hired a shit editor who was clueless in putting it together. I bet you a million bucks if they gave a good editor the same drama footage, they can create a completely different tone to the drama with the right music placements and scene transitions. All that dramatic "dun dun dun" super zoom moments and terrible sound effects? Editing job. I know because I've done a lot of video editing lol
The best thing about Overdo, besides solidifying ZLH's power of attracting commercial investments, is seeing all the posts on Rednote from casual drama watchers who were not familiar with him before asking fans to suggest more dramas of his to them because they were so impressed by his acting. As someone who has watched practically every drama he's starred in since debut, Overdo really gave him so much grounds to showcase his growth as an actor. As an acting career fan, this is all I could ever ask for 🤧
It might be, that's why Xu Yiruo is going crazy with Citang right now lol
First of all, lovely mouth you got there. What a great representation for your idol’s fan base. Second of all, I wasn’t even talking about your idol, but you’re jumping around here like a lunatic. Blocked.
Should judge it yourself, yes its not the best ,it has its flaws but people are really bashing it ,also here in…
The difference between episode 1 up until the current episode is like night and day fyi, so I wouldn't judge it based on just episode 1. However, if you're someone who doesn't like a lot of angst and over dramatic plots then I'd tell you to steer clear.

If he really did sign with Startimes then this is XYR's karma
He also knew how to fly planes so I guess he must've learned a lot while abroad
