Title The Road to Splendor Spoiler
Ep18, is commander Mo dead? Because his wife was little sad when she saw Tingyun bringing her gifts. Or is that…
I think Mrs. Mo was feeling a bit awkward with TY because Gen Mo got the promotion/reinstation that was supposed to be for ZL (shameless YJX blocked his promotion). But it was okay later on when TY said that the gift was to congratulate Gen Mo for his promotion. Maybe Mrs. Mo realized that TY had no hard feelings towards them.

Lol! Sanniang was with them all the way. She knows everything. She was there during their lows (as refugees) and stuck with them until now.

Nope. No BL in this series. Shouldn't trust those pics and clips that are presented without context.
And seems like all those who replied already confirmed that it is not BL.

I bet the actor meant ambiguous in terms of emperor-subject relationship. That maybe they somehow become more like friends towards the end. If it's a different ambiguous other want to interpret it, then I don't know about that. I'm going to leave it at that.

Hmm. You should probably drop this if you interpret those scenes is subtle BL. They are definitely not, though, but people are allowed to think that way if they want to.

I don't trust those kind of posts. And whoever is making those posts seems like they're hell bent on misleading people. But if it bothers you that much, then maybe just wait until the entire series is over.

I got the impression that he wasn't reinstated yet. He was wearing "casual" clothes while meeting the…
I don't know the answer to that. Your guess is as good as mine.

But from how the episode ended, it was obvious that the merchants gathered around the Zhao-Xie residence, the women of the GED's inner circle, as well as some of the court officials (Grand Secretary Tian) were already aware of how everything went down. And as the GED seemed to show that TY has her favor (by offering for her to bring home some tonic), it seem like the GED wasn't holding any grudges.

I'm not sure. But we know that XTY was already invited to the GED's banquet before she was married to ZL because of her own achievements (those three entries into the gazette). So there is also that.

I think because he married into her family?! Or is this some kind of female empowerment in the drama? In the novel,…
Honestly, it doesn't matter that much to me whoever married into whose family. It feels irrelevant to where the story is going.

I was actually wondering if what they had was a matrilocal marriage. But I think that would be weird with TY now a commoner (Xie) and ZL a high-ranking official.

I think others have said it’s because Zhao doesn’t have a family or living parents whereas she does (mom).
It has been circulating in the comment section for a while and nobody's bothered to correct it for so long.

The female lead established an independent nation and a matriarchal world of her own.
I don't know about the novel but in the drama, they hinted that she had her own source of income, managing some of the Xie (maternal family) business in the capital.

In the drama though, ZL surrendered all his assets to the then Crown Prince. So he had to re-earn everything from military rewards and merits.

The more I think about it, the more I'm pissed off with Yu boy. He took her FYK as his wife because she IS ordinary.…
The reasons I think why he fell for TY:
1. She saved him even while knowing what he did to her.
2. He admired that she valued knowledge and history.
3. JYX has a twisted mind and likes to want things he can't have.
4. JYX has an inflated sense of self and thinks of himself as a catch that anyone, even the one he wronged, would fall for him if he just gave them attention.

Why is their home named Xie residence, not Zhao residence? Isn't that historically incorrect for a patriarchal…
She bought that house before they got married and is under her name. It has been called Xie residence ever since.
