Park Jun-Myun (court lady?) is such a cool character idk why but i like her vibes and the way she's respected!
I like how she seems to really care about the king’s health. She was worried when he skipped meals and truly seemed to be relieved when he began eating again. I also like that she seems to be on Ji Yeong’s side.

BAYM is a fantasy rom-com. I like it for what it is.
It’s not downplaying all rom-coms to categorize some of them as being light with very little depth. Sometimes I want to eat cotton candy and other times I want to eat cheesecake. They’re both sweet.
I’m trying to be the type of person who rather than spending my time complaining about a drama’s few shortcomings I will go find another drama that better suits my tastes. Sometimes I want to watch more serious dramas and other times I just want to watch something light and fun. My tastes vary depending on my mood. Thankfully there are plenty of dramas out there that will suit many different moods and tastes.
I love cooking shows, so i'm enjoying this, but I find it a bit shallow. There's just really not a lot of substance…
BAYM is a 12 episode fantasy rom-com. It’s supposed to be light with very little depth. It’s the type of drama that you can just relax and enjoy the ride. If you start to overthink it your enjoyment will disappear.
Also you’re trying to compare it to Wok of Love which is a 38 episode drama. BAYM is only 12 episodes long. While the 2 dramas both have food elements in common they have drastically different lengths. With 38 episodes WOL was able to be a more in depth drama. BAYM is not trying to be that type of drama.
Couldn't they have dubbed the Ming envoy's Mandarin? Its terrible even by my atrocious standards'
I think it was done that way for comedy purposes. It’s supposed to be an exaggeration of what some people in the past thought Mandarin sounded like. Judging from people’s comments here the comedy missed the mark.
You mean Consort Kang? Yes, she is. He has several other wives. Consort Kang is only a fourth rank consort but…
This show is a time travel rom-com. It is not historically accurate. It’s not about a real king and his harem. Within the first 25 minutes of episode 2 Kang Mok-Ju’s title is translated on the screen as “Fourth Junior Consort, Yi Heon’s Concubine.”
This Netflix time travel rom-com is trying to de-emphasize the multiple wives aspect that were true for real kings in the Joseon dynasty. It would make it so much harder to explain how a modern day chef fell for an ancient king if he already had multiple wives.
I’ve been holding off starting this drama because I just finished watching Law and the City not too long ago. How similar is Beyond the Bar to that drama?
Awww I started seeing this from Yesterday and I am at 3rd episode, but with every moment of this drama, I am getting…
Moon Lovers was released 9 years ago and some people are still traumatized by the ending. 💔💔💔 BAYM is also an historical time travel drama but is different from Moon Lovers because it’s a rom com. I think it’s unlikely that the ending will be as heartbreaking as Moon Lovers.
Has anyone seen this trailer: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JdTom2g4kZI
The modern part of that fan made video where Chae Min is running is from his drama Hierarchy. The brief shot of Yoona in the pale blue suit is from KTL. I guess that mixture of drama clips is showing the ending that the video creator is hoping for.
I still don’t know what the ending of BAYM will be because I’m avoiding spoilers from the novel. But I wouldn’t be mad if the ending was something like that video.
Too many comments swooning over ML so i dont need to pile on LOL.Now, FL, she's making the role, a chef , which…
I’m impressed with the work Yoona put into being a chef. She seems to be dedicated to giving a believable performance. I saw that she studied cooking for a couple of months after getting the role. There’s no stand-in for her when she’s shown cooking, it’s all her.
I also agree with you about her comedy acting. There’s a fine line between being cringey and being too bland but she hits the comedy sweet spot every time. I’ve only seen her in one other show (KTL) and I thought she did a great job in that too. She seems to have a gift for comedy.
From the recent MDL article “Gong Seung Yeon bids farewell to ‘My Lovely Journey’ with closing remarks” it looks like there won’t be a season 2 after all.
This drama was troubled from the start. It was filmed from late May 2023 to late September 2023 but for some reason it took 2 years to get it released. Since they only filmed for 16 weeks I don’t think they had time to film the rumored 20 episodes. I believe they wanted to film a second season but the timing and the ratings for this drama weren’t favorable.
I’ve started watching some BAYM behind the scenes clips. LCM is all smiley and looks like a cute puppy dog when they rehearse but when they actually start filming he immediately looks all serious like a powerful king. He’s doing a much better job of acting than some people even realize.
People can get a good idea about the content of this show just by reading the title. It should not be a surprise…
I think I’ve run into you before. You like to get attention by leaving negative comments for popular dramas and then you make condescending and rude replies.
I’m sorry that you believe you can elevate yourself by putting others down. It won’t work. This type of behavior stems from insecurity and a lack of self worth. Belittling others only gives a temporary sense of power. Until you start validating yourself from within and uplifting others you won’t gain genuine confidence or fulfillment.

I don’t want to get into the complicated history of diplomatic relations between China and Korea. This is not the proper forum for that discussion.
